Customer One: "Ah yes... i'll have the shipley '09"Sommelier: "A wise choice, sir. Tis the finest of the finest. Truly a connoisseur's dream."Customer Two: "I only have a couple bucks. What's the cheapest shit you got?"Sommelier: "Pretty much a box of forks"

presuming u know what a twink is, twink will ferrell was a description of some public figure in the politics thread i think. it's a good name for addressing with, as in "that's a good point, Twink Will Ferrell, but have u considered the implications such as ... "

Defamation—also called calumny, vilification, slander (for transitory statements), and libel (for written, broadcast, or otherwise published words)—is the communication of a statement that makes a claim, expressly stated or implied to be factual, that may give an individual, business, product, group, government, or nation a negative image. It is usually, but not always,[1] a requirement that this claim be false and that the publication is communicated to someone other than the person defamed (the claimant).
― cutty, Thursday, 15 April 2010 03:37 (sixteen years ago)
CALUMNY
Is malicious intent a requirement?
Here's the part I'm pretty sure you're not going to believe -- when I said "I'm glad" I meant it literally, earnestly and unironically. I thought it was cool that you were keeping that screen name in business, not realizing you'd beaten me to it by 2+ hours.
― millions now zinging will never lol (WmC), Thursday, 15 April 2010 03:44 (sixteen years ago)
ps, I totally would have apologized if you hadn't called me a cunt.

Actually, it is not unreasonable for posters to request that their display names not be used by other posters. I would strongly recommend changing it.

i'd really only find it defensively objectionable if fools used real names in dn's.
― shipley a hoy hoy (zvookster), Monday, 19 April 2010 16:54 (sixteen years ago)
defensibly i mean
― shipley a hoy hoy (zvookster), Monday, 19 April 2010 16:55 (sixteen years ago)
fwiw i have never been thrilled about my real name getting dragged onto the board, but ethan opened the floodgates for that a couple years ago and it's not really worth bitching about or trying to control now.
― a hoy hoy young mess (some dude), Monday, 19 April 2010 17:11 (sixteen years ago)
also you used to post under your real name iirc

probably wont compromise your position at the umass amherst biology lab
― max, Monday, 19 April 2010 17:15 (sixteen years ago)
naw i was serious abt it being a defensible position, just liked the joke & thought u were cool with it anyway bc of the poetry blurb thread etc. but no probs.
still don't find the other objection particularly reasonable to the point of mod intervention
― David SBanner (zvookster), Monday, 19 April 2010 17:15 (sixteen years ago)
I totally respect and understand that; my main point is really that posters do have a say as to what happens with their display names, regardless of whether they are pseudonyms or not. It's not forbidden to do it but you really do have to change it if the poster whose name you're co-opting asks you to.
xp: well zvookster, it's nice to know that you don't think that objection is particularly reasonable; that doesn't change the fact that it is, actually, reasonable, and something that at least one mod is willing to enforce
― don't you steal my Sunstein (HI DERE), Monday, 19 April 2010 17:17 (sixteen years ago)
"autogoon the news" is alright, it's kinda just re-appropriating hoos original joke

― an actual jerk (J0rdan S.), Monday, 19 April 2010 17:19 (sixteen years ago)
don't sweat it, zvook, wouldn't have asked you to change it (although the strained chips ahoy pun was almost in unfinest territory imo), just saying that a lot of times people's real last names kind of become 'fair game' on the board without them ever posting it/under it or encouraging people to refer to them by it.
― a hoy hoy young mess (some dude), Monday, 19 April 2010 17:19 (sixteen years ago)
i'm kinda serious? i know it sounds stupid but it doesn't seem like a totally unreasonable request, whatever my reason is for asking for a change.
