I had never heard bieber before but that song was godawful

the music is p good & he's a good performer for a 14 year old -- i like that he's an overeager & un-self aware ham
also i think it's fun to have a teen idol again

this ballad is horrible

not bad, but suggest ban the choreographer

was wondering if the balding dancer was the choreographer

lol at the greenscreen showing through the nine-inch hooker's shotglass and making it look like a martini

Looooool at Hader giving Bieber the gas face at the show close

I was a bit slow to warm to Nasim, but I think she's been killing it lately. Really enjoyed her in the high school sketch.
― Michael F Gill, Sunday, 11 April 2010 05:07 (fourteen years ago) link
Not mentioned at the time, but Jason Sudekis as "The Devil" should totally become a recurring character on Weekend Update, or maybe in sketches of his own.
― Johnny Fever, Sunday, 11 April 2010 05:10 (fourteen years ago) link
Something about the hooker sketch reminded me of 70's SNL.
― Jack Human (kenan), Sunday, 11 April 2010 05:13 (fourteen years ago) link
this wd be like Phyllis Diller and Leif Garrett on '70s SNL
― kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 11 April 2010 05:15 (fourteen years ago) link
(except Tina Fey isnt as funny as Phyll, obv)
― kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 11 April 2010 05:16 (fourteen years ago) link
Only similarity between Phyllis Diller and Tina Fey is ovaries. They're both funny.
― Johnny Fever, Sunday, 11 April 2010 05:21 (fourteen years ago) link
that made no sense unless you are calling their ovaries funny
― bnw, Sunday, 11 April 2010 05:38 (fourteen years ago) link
Are you stoned or something? I'll clarify: Phyllis Diller and Tina Fey, both funny. They're not the same type of comedian, though, so the only categorical link between them is their sex.
― Johnny Fever, Sunday, 11 April 2010 05:54 (fourteen years ago) link
i love reading jezebel snl posts

why did she have to slut-shame that white supremacist professional tabloid figure?
that was great. fey almost made justin bieber seem cool, which is a huge accomplishment.

― ô_o (Nicole), Sunday, 11 April 2010 15:23 (fourteen years ago) link
this was OK. the only sketches that really worked for me was the 9-inch hooker one (which really DID feel like SNL of the late 80s/early 90s, a complete idea that was the right length and not obsessed with one-liners) and her Update monologue
pedo teacher sketch was really creepy, actually
still, the cheesecake bump photos = delicious, and her best look is STILL the Weekend Update desk outfit after all this time
― Nhex, Sunday, 11 April 2010 22:10 (fourteen years ago) link
I know I've complained about the cold opens a lot but one thing specifically pissed me off about this one: I hate when the punchline to a joke is displayed as text on the screen (i.e. the census questions in this one) and a character reads it aloud, usually really slowly. I've usually read the punchline and then have to listen to the exact same thing being read out, it's totally clunky and kills the momentum and panders to people who don't read or something?
― congratulations (n/a), Sunday, 11 April 2010 22:13 (fourteen years ago) link
yeah, and to make matters worse, armisen-as-obama insists on saying no more than 4 words without pausing, it's just rly stilted that way (and some of that material had laff potential imo).

why did samberg say "dilla dilla" at the beginning of the Roker sketch?
also lol @ whatever record company signed justin beiber for not paying for the fucking hulu reair rights to his jams considering he's like 98% internet phenomenon
― the smh westerns (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 12 April 2010 00:22 (fourteen years ago) link
why pay for that when it will be on youtube (his medium) for free anyway

justin beiber's an internet-only phenomenon? i dunno about that. my 9-year old daughter's friends are crazy about justin beiber (download the songs; watch the videos; follow his guest appearances on silly nickelodeon shows; and so forth). can't just be internet-based.
i can't stand justin beiber, mind you. just sayin'.

idk man, idk how many 14 year olds are gonna be hitting up hulu.com to check that out, seems p minimal to me
― am0n corner (J0rdan S.), Monday, 12 April 2010 00:27 (fourteen years ago) link
also, bieber ain't really an internet phenomenon any more
i thought music performances were just never on hulu period, regardless of what labels do (and would the label really have to pay for their guy's performance to be on there?)
anyway fuck NBC or Kabletown or whoever fucked up that this episode isn't on demand the next day like they are every damn week, i hate having to watch shit online.
― fucka washa hat (some dude), Monday, 12 April 2010 00:27 (fourteen years ago) link
yeah, they go to the internet for his stuff. but their crazy fandom seems to have developed from a lot of sources.

well i'm just saying that the dude has a massive song irl & is gonna be the first platinum artist of 2010

j0rd,i'm just saying the videos aren't in either of the two places one would expect them to be. that's a hueg fuckup imo
alship, there have been a few performances that were on hulu. i saw the ting tings and pearl jam and vampire weekend on hulu--two of which are on indie labels
― the smh westerns (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 12 April 2010 00:30 (fourteen years ago) link
first new platinum artist you mean?
― fucka washa hat (some dude), Monday, 12 April 2010 00:31 (fourteen years ago) link
oh good to know about pearl jam, i was bummed i missed their performances when i watched that ep ondemand
though i don't know how they got on there. i'm just guessing someone has to pay for the rebroadcast rights? Or maybe the bands sacrifice rebroadcast rights? this would be a good Vulture article
― the smh westerns (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 12 April 2010 00:32 (fourteen years ago) link
i think it's more like the website or cable service or w/e has to pay additional royalties to the song publisher.
― fucka washa hat (some dude), Monday, 12 April 2010 00:34 (fourteen years ago) link
yeah, so maybe the indie bands are waiving that right?
