Raiders scene that completely undercuts this argument: the sequence on the boat in the bedroom. "Where *doesn't* it hurt?" "HERE!" Etc

Not completely; it's a valedictory (although I like her "well, GODDAMN IT, Indy, where DOESN'T it hurt?")

I will always have massive love for Temple of Doom - first film I can remember seeing in the cinema (I would have been six), and as an immaculately crafted, unusually atmospheric live action cartoon it's just about perfect.

chap, Sunday, 15 April 2007 23:22 (nineteen years ago)

Temple of Doom is one of the few films in which the hoary conviction of bargaining with the villain utterly fails.

JONES: You want the stones? Let her go!

MOLO RAM: Drop them, Dr. Jones. They will be found. YOU won't! (evil cackle)

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Sunday, 15 April 2007 23:34 (nineteen years ago)

mmm chilled monkey branez

latebloomer, Monday, 16 April 2007 00:14 (nineteen years ago)

Mola Ram... Prepare to meet Kali... IN HELL!

I also like Kate Capshaw, as Ned well knows. Karen Allen didn't sing no fuckin Cole Porter tune in Mandarin.

Dr Morbius, Monday, 16 April 2007 19:08 (nineteen years ago)

opening credit sequence does not a film make.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Monday, 16 April 2007 19:11 (nineteen years ago)

ugh once the opening sequence ends Capshaw becomes totally unbearable

The female characters in Spielberg's films are often emotionally retarded imbeciles - see Catch Me If You Can for a film which has a very low opinion of women indeed.

Uma Thurman vs. Kate Capshaw

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 16 April 2007 19:31 (nineteen years ago)

Lucas, who also is in pre-production on a "bare-bones, action-heavy" Star Wars live-action TV series

NO

nickalicious, Monday, 16 April 2007 19:34 (nineteen years ago)

He's just jealous he didn't think of Firefly first.

jesus, morbius, you really gotta drop the tarantino bugaboo, i mean seriously do you honestly think there are that many enamored quentin fans out there or something??

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Monday, 16 April 2007 20:29 (nineteen years ago)

no, they are just overrepresented here, along with S_____n S______g loathers.

Anyway, how do they make a '30s serial parody set in the postwar era? Oh riiiight, Rear Window for Teens was just #1 at the box office, so it don't matter.

Dr Morbius, Monday, 16 April 2007 20:33 (nineteen years ago)

I don't care what you say, Steven Soderberg sucks.

Consensus is a marvelous thing.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 16 April 2007 21:17 (nineteen years ago)

morbius, the point that i'm making is that i don't think one of those groups is overrepresented here so it just gets to be more and more comedy the more you bring that dude up out of the blue in unrelated arguments. you're right, spielberg dissidents are more prevalent here than in general society, though.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Monday, 16 April 2007 21:18 (nineteen years ago)

I loooooooooooooooooove the White Sox.

-- David R

more than you loooooooooove Grindhouse? (prepare for 9 innings of grief)

rps, Monday, 16 April 2007 21:18 (nineteen years ago)

People who hate The Shawshank Redemption are more prevalent here than in general society, too. How's Morbs feel about that?

milo z, Monday, 16 April 2007 21:19 (nineteen years ago)

apparently people who rate the blob above all over steve mcqueen movies are more prevalent here! it's a mysterious world.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Monday, 16 April 2007 21:20 (nineteen years ago)

Alfred, do you intend to sound like a parody of Jonathan Rosenbaum writing a Leonard Maltin-esque 'guide to film'?

milo z, Monday, 16 April 2007 21:20 (nineteen years ago)

well, i do comedy! just not ZINGS.

who's this rps TROLL?

Dr Morbius, Monday, 16 April 2007 21:21 (nineteen years ago)

apparently someone who doesn't enjoy your posts about the white sox.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Monday, 16 April 2007 21:22 (nineteen years ago)

rps = Ozzie Guillen

milo z, Monday, 16 April 2007 21:22 (nineteen years ago)

I wish my mom hated The Shawshank Redemption!

Alfred, do you intend to sound like a parody of Jonathan Rosenbaum writing a Leonard Maltin-esque 'guide to film'?

Intention has nothing to do with it. I kinda wish my remarks were more like "a parody of Pauline Kael writing a Merv Griffin-esque `guide to film' though.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 16 April 2007 21:23 (nineteen years ago)

Pauline Kael otm re Indy

Dr Morbius, Monday, 16 April 2007 21:24 (nineteen years ago)

i kind of wish your remarks were more like that too!

I haven't read the whole thread, but I might be going to see the "Adaptation" that a bunch of teens did over 6 years in the 80s, a scene by scene remake of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I am downloading the original now though because I barely remember it!

Casuistry, Thursday, 5 July 2007 01:40 (eighteen years ago)

Hmmm... I wondered why I hadn't posted on this thread yet. Anyway, Raiders means more to me than all the Star Wars movies combined.

Anyone else remember that script that was kicking around the net with Indiana Jones going after Noah's Ark in the early Cold War? Evil Soviets, etc.

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 5 July 2007 02:13 (eighteen years ago)

chris i'm going to that on friday for sure (i work at the place showing it actually)

impudent harlot, Thursday, 5 July 2007 03:49 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, so based on that link Kingfish provided, this is Indiana Jones and the Casting of "Rebel Without a Cause".
