This is prime podcast question material.

only point rilly is why bother bring so specific if you're also going to be specifically rong? i guess that keeps a horde of crazy losties from descending upon some unsuspecting real-life coffee shop. lord knows Urth's busy enough already.

all yoga attacks are fire based (rogermexico.), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 17:02 (sixteen years ago)

The fact that it's an ALTERNATE REALITY isn't a sufficient explanation?

jam master (jaymc), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 17:05 (sixteen years ago)

Or maybe Geisha Nails across the street serves coffee.

jam master (jaymc), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 17:08 (sixteen years ago)

it's weird enough that Kate took Claire from LAX to some hospital in Hawaii

regarding subjective opinions on the final season and this last episode:

i mean if you're watching strictly for answers... -Cutty

honestly I think that at least one big question will never be answered; or if all the big questions are answered, a new big question will appear and that one will never be answered. so, hopefully everyone isn't just watching this show for answers... I mean, there has to be something else people are watching this show for!

I think the series ending will leave you thinking about a couple different possible scenarios (maybe 2 different answers to a big question)

but yeah, lots of the biq questions will be answered. I'm sure we'll find out what would happen if flocke could or does escape from the island. I bet there will be a couple holes in Jacob and Flocke's background story

CaptainLorax, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 18:01 (sixteen years ago)

erm is "subjective opinion" a reiteration or is there such thing as objective or non-subjective opinions?

This show is good at creating wtf moments. Based on the last two seasons, it's not so great at demystifying those moments, imo. I think the collective demand for answers by the fans over the years, and the producers subsequent catering to that demand, have been huge mistakes. I really don't want any answers. I'm completely comfortable without them. And I know how outlandish that probably sounds to some. I know this is an extreme minority opinion. But all I really want to do is revel in wtf-ness. That's all I want from this show. Give me something I can never figure out.

Mister Jim, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 18:15 (sixteen years ago)

I. WANT. ANSWERS! You, sir, sound outlandish, and are in the minority.

schwantz, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 18:21 (sixteen years ago)

My favourite moment was when Widmore told Desmond soz, yr back on the island. Des's face made the exact same expression mine has been doing at most of the episodes this season.

worst moment - You felt.....LOVE

Not the real Village People, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 18:21 (sixteen years ago)

I really thought Charlie was going to profess his engagement to heroin -- he loved it so much he was going to marry it -- Lost writers you fooled me again!

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 18:23 (sixteen years ago)

How come Faraday has two British parents and one American accent.

Who knows how long they've lived in LA, they could have lived there since he was little.

ô_o (Nicole), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 18:24 (sixteen years ago)

I'm really surprised how steadfastly Ozzy Osbourne's kids have refused to assimilate, accent-wise.

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 18:30 (sixteen years ago)

Not to draw parallels between Ozzy/Widmore, Sharon/Eloise

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 18:31 (sixteen years ago)

ALTERNATE

UNIVERSE

Not the real Village People, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 18:33 (sixteen years ago)

It isn't an alternate universe, exactly. It's a wish-fulfillment universe.

"I reallllllly wish I could get coffee across the street from Ashton's restaurant." BAM. Wish fulfilled.

no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 18:35 (sixteen years ago)

so if Charlie and Desmond and Faraday all got LUVFLASHES whenever they met their gals in the flash-sideways, does that mean Sawyer and/or Jack felt the same kinda ish when running into Kate and we just weren't shown it or what?

eenie meenie miney mo hater (some dude), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 18:44 (sixteen years ago)

Sawyer's main squeeze was Juliet, right (who was mumbling alt-world visions presumably while on death-throes)? DId Jack run into Kate?

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 18:48 (sixteen years ago)

i thought he maybe at least saw her on the plane/in the airport? i dunno it's been awhile since i watched that first episode.

eenie meenie miney mo hater (some dude), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 18:48 (sixteen years ago)

Miles should've had a few "yo i feel like that chick totally gave me a boner...in another reality" moments

eenie meenie miney mo hater (some dude), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 18:49 (sixteen years ago)

Actually wouldn't Jack see Christian going "good job, son" in his soma-vision rather than Kate?

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 18:51 (sixteen years ago)

i didnt even get into this when complaining above, but this whole twee true love peels back the verneer of altverse bullshit is totally unsatisfying to me and makes me v v worried about some big romanto-jack/kate/sawyer fucking timewaster still to come, which is the other reason i thought this ep was shit.

HOT DISH THYME MACHINE (jjjusten), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 18:52 (sixteen years ago)

"we all got what we thought we wanted but what we really always want was hugs and cuddles and kissyface" arrgrgrgrgggghhh

HOT DISH THYME MACHINE (jjjusten), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 18:53 (sixteen years ago)

Be fair: that's all Desmond has consistently wanted. That and some bitchen Scotch.

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 18:57 (sixteen years ago)

this episode ruled, sorry haters

OTM

many things i loved about this:

- finally we know they are actually going something with the alternate timeline!
- desmond is jumping between the two timelines! when he came back to the island that was cool but when he jumped BACK that was amazing - this is going to allow interaction between the two worlds
- was pleased that daniel returned..he is kind of awful but i've always enjoyed the storylines involving him
- elouise was only moderately cringe
- penny + desmond :D :D the only time lost has ever ever managed to do romance despite so many bad attempts

going something = doing something / going somewhere

archer's goon (tpp), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 19:01 (sixteen years ago)

It's still not clear to me why any of these characters would not prefer the alt-reality to the island one. Like even in the alt, Desmond meets Penny, presumably falls in love, gets married, has a kid. Charlie and Faraday can do the same. What advantage lies in the island reality?

Mister Jim, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 19:04 (sixteen years ago)

Desmond can do all of those things.

Mister Jim, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 19:05 (sixteen years ago)

I don't get the sense that the island reality and alt-reality are oppositional. It seems like the alt-reality is in jeopardy if they fail on the island.

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 19:07 (sixteen years ago)

the number of people that fit into the pattern of this is an alarming (for me) indicator too:

desmond gets approval of widmore/wanted penny
charlie gets success of band, also all the smack he can eat/wanted claire
faraday gets to be a musician/wanted charlotte
sawyer gets to be a good guy lawman/wanted juliet (and for some torture the audience reason, prob also kate)
hurley gets to be lucky (and rich)/idk prob libby?
sayid gets to be a good guy humanitarian/wanted nadia
jin/sun are together/idk no babby to love prob?
jack gets to be a surgeon and not a drunk and have a petulant kid he can bond with because they are both whiny douchebags/wanted ugh kate

claire and locke are the only ones i cant get the missing true love angle on at all, but the wants are obv loving relationship with dad and gets to keep her BAABEE

HOT DISH THYME MACHINE (jjjusten), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 19:08 (sixteen years ago)

bunch of xposts there

HOT DISH THYME MACHINE (jjjusten), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 19:08 (sixteen years ago)

oh also could add gets to be alive for charlie and faraday to the good times list there

HOT DISH THYME MACHINE (jjjusten), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 19:09 (sixteen years ago)

btw i completely agree re: answers. i'm not all that bothered. anyone who thinks the writers have had this show mapped out from the beginning are kidding themselves imo. that's not to take away from the show - i've been hooked for 6 years and have no regrets! but it's a TV show and they've been writing it as they go along. they may have had some theme in mind the whole time with the jacob/mib thing but there was a while earlier this season that i was worried that the island mythology stuff was going to turn out to be completely awful and the alt. universe thing was just a way to satisfy the fans who actually care about jack/kate/sawyer love triangle bullshit. thankfully the alpert episode and this latest one has convinced me they still have it in them! good stuff.

It seems like the alt-reality is in jeopardy if they fail on the island.

mmmm good possibility! i have this feeling they won't go with this tho, since it they're probably going to reach some sort of choice-making or reality-crashing before the end of the season

Nhex, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 19:13 (sixteen years ago)

I don't get the sense that the island reality and alt-reality are oppositional. It seems like the alt-reality is in jeopardy if they fail on the island.

This could be true. I guess I just inferred from that episode that Charlie, Faraday, and Desmond were taking an oppositional view to the alt reality, and that Desmond was going to do something to undermine it. But I could be misinterpreting the implications.

Mister Jim, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 19:19 (sixteen years ago)

"we all got what we thought we wanted but what we really always want was hugs and cuddles and kissyface" arrgrgrgrgggghhh

you're 12 years old, amirite?

mikebee (BATTAGS), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 19:22 (sixteen years ago)

i think yer misunderstanding me here dude, what im getting at is if there is a plot device as well worn as "redemption/answer to complex problem through reuniting character with their true love" i dont know what it is.

HOT DISH THYME MACHINE (jjjusten), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 19:27 (sixteen years ago)

I thought re: love, 'love would tear us apart" again

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 19:29 (sixteen years ago)

also (with the exception of desmond/penny) the fact that every attempt to write a decent romantic relationship into this show has been a completely botched hatchet job does not really make me excited about the possibility of watching the writers hamfist their way through a bunch of that in the final episodes.

HOT DISH THYME MACHINE (jjjusten), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 19:30 (sixteen years ago)

Desmond never really struck me as a guy who was yearning to be George Clooney in Up in the Air.
