maybe philippe is half cat

considered that too, but he just doesn't look it
― iiiijjjj, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 22:13 (sixteen years ago)
steve deneuve is philippe's dad?

he's obviously supposed to be some sort of professional bodyguard/general hard-ass hired to get philippe back to his mum safely.
― max arrrrrgh, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 22:21 (sixteen years ago)
his last name is french and he's telling philippe stories from his childhood
― drink more beer and the doctor is a heghog (gbx), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 22:22 (sixteen years ago)
i thought the stories were researched or something, and he was being paid to be good company???
― max arrrrrgh, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 22:29 (sixteen years ago)
yeah he's just that good

I will miss Philippe if this is indeed his last run in the series. He's a great jolt of childlike (as opposed to over-sexed cat like) whimsy.
― Clerk all KNOWIN (B.L.A.M.), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 00:27 (sixteen years ago)
I'm thinking that when Phillipe goes home he will start to age again. Maybe he will be six soon!
― Clay, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 01:01 (sixteen years ago)
So I'm guessing Philippe's "mom" is actually his grandmother...?

― ampersand (remy bean), Wednesday, 14 April 2010 13:51 (sixteen years ago)
I def don't think that's it. I think it's more about the disappointment of building up something huge and towering in your mind and then things are simply mundane and mediocre. Your parents look a little older, the reunion isn't only happy, there's all that stuff (like the fact she couldn't take care of him in the first place!) that still hasn't been worked out.
― Mordy, Wednesday, 14 April 2010 13:51 (sixteen years ago)
but what's steve deneuve's place in all this??
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 14 April 2010 13:55 (sixteen years ago)
He's just this guy, who's smart and can see that that old lady can't have a five-year-old. I figure he'll talk to "mom," and she'll gently break it to Philippe that she can't take care of him, he'll secretly be relieved, Steve will take him back to his real home, hugglez. Hopefully they'll get sidetracked on the way back to CA by something totally insane.

this. love melancholic aching achewood, but some wild psychedelic onstad hijinks would be appreciated soon.

Yeah, I think that was just Onstad venting about a bad flight experience in a "Fuck You Friday" strip.

WmC very on point.

Phillipe's mom's house is just like my grandma's house...no food that's edible except cereal, weird hours/lots of church on her part, and the only board game she had was The Ungame. I remember reading a lot of Reader's Digest.
― Ponies are horse children (Abbott), Thursday, 15 April 2010 14:35 (sixteen years ago)
The Ungame! Total Christian "ice breaker" type game. And it's visible on the shelf of games in the closet in that one scene in Royal Tenenbaums!

I find sociopaths really, really unnerving and upsetting, in fact and fiction, so all Nice Pete strips/storylines give me the karates bigtime.

I was somewhat annoyed at the couple bickering in the house about the presumptive drug addict on their lawn, but in retrospect it was a decent counterpoint to Nice Pete's mode of human interaction.
Pete expressing joy that he's given a proper role in his high school fantasy is great.

― dyaon't (sic), Wednesday, 23 June 2010 04:25 (fifteen years ago)
It's been successful at being at total meltdown, and I think that's what it was going for.
I tend to be entertained/terrified by Nice Pete stories.
