Isn't his dad Matthew Farnsworth? That guy can carry likability across several generations.

Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 00:39 (sixteen years ago)

he's so weird and cute (in an odd, harshly angled sort of way, esp in a beret) that I'd probably be attracted to him in prep school too.

Max is not a good guy. He's a teenager.

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 00:57 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, Max is often extremely unlikable.

armando white (dyao), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 07:35 (sixteen years ago)

what type is she?

by another name (amateurist), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 07:35 (sixteen years ago)

overachieving azn who is pretty bland and lacks a personality/is not interesting

armando white (dyao), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 07:38 (sixteen years ago)

is sort of tolerated by everyone but nobody really likes her

armando white (dyao), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 07:38 (sixteen years ago)

The one I think I enjoyed most was Darjeeling, but I have a tough time with Anderson films. I don't know if it's an audio issue, but I always find it difficult to concentrate on the dialogue. It seems cloudy and arrhythmic or mumbled somehow.

village idiot (dog latin), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 09:08 (sixteen years ago)

jesus dyao you're making me feel bad with that level of self-hatred

although her (not entirely inexplicable, though perhaps not fully justified) affection for him is kind of another hint that he's basically a good and decent guy.

well, that and wes's racist exoticism fetish HEYO

Nhex, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 09:47 (sixteen years ago)

haha nhex I guess I've just spent so much of my life trying to define myself against that 'type' that I'm just really sensitive about it I dunno

armando white (dyao), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 12:23 (sixteen years ago)

The actress who played her is now an M.D.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 13:04 (sixteen years ago)

Which I hope everyone here will take with a goodnatured LOL given the current discussion of stereotypes.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 13:06 (sixteen years ago)

She is currently in the Internal Medicine Residency program at the University of Chicago.

well, that and wes's racist exoticism fetish HEYO

i don't know that i should just let this sit there. please explain. and explain how it relates to this particular character. would you rather he have just cast a scottish girl to be max's love interest?

by another name (amateurist), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 14:10 (sixteen years ago)

i think we can all agree wes anderson is generally pretty racist

caek, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 14:11 (sixteen years ago)

yeah tbh any director whose indie pretentions occasionally exceed their grasp is a massive bigot

jeez, i feel like it's 2002 all over again.

i'm just wondering if there's any way that anderson could have made the girlfriend asian and NOT have to contend with you corny indie fuxors complaining of racism.

by another name (amateurist), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 14:15 (sixteen years ago)

caek, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 14:22 (sixteen years ago)

"Sure, it's tempting to imagine belonging to another culture but I'm comfortable with the status my ethnicity and birth provides" , confides Anderson, the briefest hint of a smile visible as he discusses his new Renoir by way of Satyajit Ray neocolonial chamber piece in the opulent surroundings of a Chennai Gentleman's Club. "There are times growing up when I'd have to pretend that kind of privileged Northern European cultural background embarassed me, when we'd have to visit these impoverished Hispanic districts or whatever. But really I didn't give a fuck. They were savages."

nakhchivan, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 14:26 (sixteen years ago)

lol

by another name (amateurist), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 14:30 (sixteen years ago)

context for that? cos he obviously never said that.

Jesse James Woods (darraghmac), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 14:31 (sixteen years ago)

A+

ampersand (remy bean), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 14:34 (sixteen years ago)

this is a special genre of fanfic where we make believe liberal slebs are actually awful reactionaries in order to prolong ilx threads.

nakhchivan, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 14:36 (sixteen years ago)

oh, i've been engaging in a form of that activity for years in anything to do with uk media/politics.

ps maddy had it coming

by another name (amateurist), Friday, 9 April 2010 04:45 (sixteen years ago)

on second thought, i'm surprised life aquatic did as well as it did. not surprised, although disappointment, at the poor showing for darjeeling limited.
