gearing up for a 4 mile in Central Park this coming Sunday. I ran 3 miles on Saturday so i'm thinking i should be okay for the full 4 in a week.

this will be the first time I run an official race. is there really something to be said for the extra race day adrenalin push?

Aerosol, Monday, 5 April 2010 15:03 (sixteen years ago)

Should I bring my runners on honeymoon to NYC at the end of the month so I can jog round Central Park?

No, YOU'RE a disgusting savage (Scik Mouthy), Monday, 5 April 2010 15:11 (sixteen years ago)

ok feck ye i'll go out. if i get a cold i'm blaming you all.

SM- without doubt

Jesse James Woods (darraghmac), Monday, 5 April 2010 15:28 (sixteen years ago)

YES.

I did that on my NYC trip last fall, it's a great place to run. There is a generally excellent, easy 6 mile "main loop" in Central Park that I would highly recommend, having run it as a tourist myself.

Yes, you'll be entirely fine. The same principle applies as you go further up in distance -- that's why most people train with 20 mile long runs for 26.2 mile marathons, and are able to complete them.

Again, yes. You'll understand once you try it. ;-)

Dope! I’m super excited about it. hopefully it goes well and I’ll do a few more this summer.

Aerosol, Monday, 5 April 2010 15:39 (sixteen years ago)

the nyc reservoir run is a beautiful time

forksclovetofu, Monday, 5 April 2010 18:38 (sixteen years ago)

guys, intervals are HARD

plax (ico), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 18:53 (sixteen years ago)

yeah? i could imagine. i don't even want to try messing with that yet. just reading about the benefits has me curious to give it a go some point though.

Aerosol, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 19:08 (sixteen years ago)

Hey maybe I'll do some intervals tonight. Inspiration! Good idea!

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 19:23 (sixteen years ago)

felt like was gonna puke a lot! feel unbelievable now, about to chow down on fish and mash, <3 my lyfe atm.

plax (ico), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 19:25 (sixteen years ago)

i've been doing some running, wanna go today but it's 91º. i should do it though, to get nice and sweaty.

harbl, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 19:30 (sixteen years ago)

intervals keep feeling easier and easier to me, which means i have to push harder for the fast parts, which is not so appealing some days!

the one thing i really don't like about them is that it is like 10x as much stress on the legs/shins.

tehresa, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 19:31 (sixteen years ago)

im kinda hoping that the chirunning stuff ive been working on will make a big reduction in the shin stress dept.

plax (ico), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 19:34 (sixteen years ago)

kinda love getting this feeling? when yr almost delirious from exhaustion & yr insides are electric oh man

f a ole schwarzwelt (Lamp), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 19:34 (sixteen years ago)

tehresa, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 19:42 (sixteen years ago)

t are you pumped to come to dc and run in the HUMID

harbl, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 19:44 (sixteen years ago)

xp i found it v. helpful but i hadnt run in years and it gave me something to focus on, that is working on the postures etc instead of getting self-conscious in my short shorts

plax (ico), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 19:46 (sixteen years ago)

ugh so not looking forward to the humid!

tehresa, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 19:48 (sixteen years ago)

at least temp residence has some nearby trails

tehresa, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 19:49 (sixteen years ago)

four days in a row on the bike. ankle is sore! not bad sore but kinda like it's being tested.
wanna go for a jog so bad.
really really need to be careful so i don't scotch the whole spring.

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 20:01 (sixteen years ago)

<3 intervals, theyre exciting!

~cankles~ (ice cr?m), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 20:59 (sixteen years ago)

having said that, pretty sure every time ive gotten injured running was because of them

~cankles~ (ice cr?m), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 21:00 (sixteen years ago)

haven't run in a week so psyched to finish my first attempt at 10k in an hour flat.

Jesse James Woods (darraghmac), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 21:30 (sixteen years ago)

I haven't posted here in a few days, but the weather has been nice and I'm running a lot. It's amazing how much better I feel if I'm out there four days a week. Getting new shoes as soon as I get my orthotics back.

Jeff, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 22:25 (sixteen years ago)

I am impressed by you guys

Am feeling you here, forks! My calf is still a mess from straining it four weeks ago or so. Tried to run it off at first, but I think that's just made it a lot worse, so now I'm not running at all until it's fixed. Should have rested it straight away really. Hugely frustrating not being able to run, and all that fitness just being pissed away in the meantime. Brighton marathon in 10 days, I think I can now safely cross that one off the calendar. Booooo legs!

Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Farting in Space (NickB), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 09:00 (sixteen years ago)

Oh come on Nick, you can still run the marathon... just go out, you know, really easy. Enjoy a good 5 hours on the course.

lame
who are these jerks

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 13:36 (sixteen years ago)

ha they're 1x current marathon runner and 1x former marathon runner. it's good high-level/long term goals motivation, but i'm not gonna let it dictate my pace for tonight or anything.

Jesse James Woods (darraghmac), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 13:38 (sixteen years ago)

(it's all fairly good natured really)

Jesse James Woods (darraghmac), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 13:39 (sixteen years ago)

boo legs indeed!

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 13:44 (sixteen years ago)

i think for some reason i just really dislike vocally competitive people. don't mind me. i'll be tooling along comfortably in the back of the group with no injuries and no puking.

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 13:50 (sixteen years ago)

gotta be honest, when the older dude was running i'm pretty sure a mile was actually a shorter distance.

Jesse James Woods (darraghmac), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 13:55 (sixteen years ago)

it was one dinosaur length, which is actually shorter than a modern mile

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 14:00 (sixteen years ago)

Oh come on Nick, you can still run the marathon...

Kind of wary about making things worse tbh. Might start the race and see how it goes though, have paid to do it after all.

Darraghmac, fuck those guys, everyone has to start somewhere.

Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Farting in Space (NickB), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 14:00 (sixteen years ago)

:-) I'm quite sure I run my own mouth off around the canteen to take a bit of stick back about it tbh.

Yup, just take it easy.

Remember my race report involving the "uking" at mile 3, then pushing through 15 more? You can do this. ;)

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 14:13 (sixteen years ago)

Not sure if I really wanna uke tbh.

Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Farting in Space (NickB), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 14:24 (sixteen years ago)

uken't make me

Jesse James Woods (darraghmac), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 15:52 (sixteen years ago)

xp interval injury worry people - what surface are you running on? Doing your fast sessions on grass will be a lot kinder to your legs than other surfaces. Concrete paths in particular are lethal.

seandalai, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 20:17 (sixteen years ago)

Did 2.6 or so miles in 30 minutes tonight, walked about 1/4 of it.

No, YOU'RE a disgusting savage (Scik Mouthy), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 21:29 (sixteen years ago)

Rock 'n' roll.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 21:31 (sixteen years ago)

I have been interval-ing on treadmill for ease of timing and speed control.

Just did a goodbye seattle 5 miles from my gym to down along the waterfront path and back. Windy, chilly, grey, waves crashy, rain spitting: it felt awesome and totally matched my mood.

tehresa, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 21:32 (sixteen years ago)

Skipped my interval workout last night. Drove 15 minutes with my fiance to the nearest middle school with a 1/4 mile track, and the lights were shut out, huge NO TRESPASSING signs at every gate threatening to call police on violators, etc. By the time I got home it was pushing 11pm so I cracked a beer and watched an episode of Dexter instead.

Tonight's plan is to head out the door, no map, no planned distance, just fucking run around like an animal. Fiance's working late so I'll take my phone and head home when she's doing the same. How many miles can I sneak in... that's the question.
