Lost Season 6 - RE: LA X

Much as I like filling in backstory, I still think this season's pace is slowing down almost to a standstill and it feels like we're running out of episodes.

Oh yeah great to see Room 23 and Mikhail again.

Think this was the biggest indication yet that it's actually Widmore who was on the 'right' side throughout S3 and S4, and that he was trying to kill Ben because he knew what was going to happen.

I dunno, my feeling is that the Ben/Widmore feud was purely about who was in charge of the Others, and also based on Widmore's initial dismissal from the camp. Their hatred for each other goes way back and seems to be based on stupid feuds about who had a kid where.

I think it makes much more sense Widmore and Ben just hate each other than Widmore knowing Ben was going to be convinced by MIB to kill Jacob.

Fairly sure the Widmore/Ben thing and huge amounts of Widmore's past are just twists and turns and feints towards storylines they changed their mind about anyway.

EG why in the name of jesus would Widmore have planted the flight wreckage....to protect the candidates or something???

Yeah maybe, but they've brought Widmore back for a reason and they have ways to reconcile that I'm sure. In any case they've known where they were going since midway through S3 and the appearance of Jacob's cabin, and Widmore wasn't really a particularly big thing until then.

Have they really known where they were going since then? I don't have any faith in that. Or even if they have known where they're going they've gone loads of other places to make the show more exciting.

There are a lot of times now where Lost is a show of many dreary coincidences. I still really enjoy it but seeing Mikhail wasn't even a shock, just "oh right, there he is..."

Even Desmond was pretty obvious before it showed his face.

Yeah Desmond was totally obvious, the Richard backstory was totally obvious as well, but still strangely enjoyable to see. I know the rest of the viewing public isn't looking at it in the same way as this thread and others are, but it'd be nice to be totally wrong-footed in one episode. At the moment they seem to be trailing everything two or three episodes in advance.

The Mikhail/Keamy/Charlotte stuff just feels like the writers doing a lap of honour for all the actors. Like this episode would have felt more sinister had it just been random gangster dudes.

I dunno, Keamy is fucking brilliant, god the guy is just a reprehensible bastard. He's surely acted his way into bigger roles.

again, totally awful (almost as bad as yelling!), but still secretly small-town hilarious

Now I'm thinking of a Lost spinoff with Keamy as a Dexter-style psychotic/poor man's Walken living next door to a wholesome family ... hijinks ensue when the border collie's severed head is found in Dad's bed one morning

i blame this episode on the director Paul A. Edwards, who hasn't made a great episode yet, and has made some real stinkers. Here's the episodes he's done:

during the episode i was outraged by the sun forgetting english thing. i mean wtf what a ridiculous way to waste an episode. but reading what u guys are saying that it could be related to the two timelines bleeding into each other is kind of cool.

Kinda cool but also the sort of shit I make up on the hoof. It's probably more likely to be a plot device that will later stop her imparting a piece of vital information at a time of crisis.

Thought Jin teaming up with the Widmore guys was probably the more significant bit. That and finding out Smokey needs all the candidates together to leave.

Didn't mind the Sun forgetting English thing so much, it's exactly the sort of Lost contrivance we've come to expect, and it was an obvious callback to her Season 1 days.

Needing all the candidates together to leave (or die together) is a cool idea, reflecting the Ajira return.

that said i forgot that the last time we saw Mrs Faraday she was talking to Widmore outside that church so probably gave him the same info about the "window" that the Ajira flight took

Also that giant pendulum thing that detects the Island, I don't think that one's even a mystery.

The explanations for all the Dharma stations are great, it's always like "ah some stupid experiments, who cares?" The Swan and the Looking Glass are the only interesting ones.

Also, Miles was unfunny for the first time ever this week. Are they keeping him and Lapidus round for any reason other than that it's useful for plot reasons to have a pilot and a guy who talks to dead people hanging around?
