They could do with leaving more stuff unanswered, imo. The temple was another mystery that I didn't need explained.

x-posts: Not trying to ignore your question. I'm just otming the 2nd paragraph. "basically we only learned what we already knew..."

Mister Jim, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 18:32 (sixteen years ago)

But wtf am i bitching about? I think I enjoyed most of last night MORE than most of you guys. Sorry, just an old talking about stuff on the internet habit.

Mister Jim, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 18:39 (sixteen years ago)

Why would you think he was trying to send the ship to the island?

I don't know, but I am sure Jacob has some influence, either directly or indirectly. But fuck if we know what it was ... in probably the only episode there will ever be about the Black Rock!

no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 18:41 (sixteen years ago)

jacob's full name is Jakob Hanso MacLeod of the clan MacLeod

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 18:48 (sixteen years ago)

Oh, I had Magnus Hanso all wrong. He was the captain of the ship, Whitfield was his second, and Hanso died in the crash on the island.

Not sure how Alvar Hanso got the captain's log, but I suppose Richard could have brought it back with him.

saving hanso stories for the comic book sequels

wtf with that Dancing W/The Stars bullshit, I wanted to rewatch last week's episode! fortunately I dl'ed a Spanish-subtitled one which was lots of fun.

geez that V countdown was annoying.

more mirrors in this ep, also those vozzek69 recaps continue to be awesome and enlightening. if the "nothing happened this time" folks would care to take a look... (note: long and geeky)

Seriously anyone who thinks nothing happened in this episode is just not paying attention and moaning for the sake of moaning by now.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 22:16 (sixteen years ago)

Just reading a summary of it is exhausting: Desmond is the package. *eyeroll at Matt DC*

for me to chilt on (bnw), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 22:27 (sixteen years ago)

Think this was the biggest indication yet that it's actually Widmore who was on the 'right' side throughout S3 and S4, and that he was trying to kill Ben because he knew what was going to happen. He must know something, he knows what's important about Desmond, which is why he went to such lengths to get him to the island twice, and possibly this is related to the Faraday/time stuff that's been ignored so far this season.

What did Zoe say she was? A geologist? A geophysicist? That's going to be a big deal. Probably born on the island as well.

Quite happy Sun has lost the ability to speak English because she can't really act in English, whereas she's a lot better in Korean. There was no indication she should speak English in the alt-timeline either, which might, if I was in stupid theorising mode, be an example of the alt-timeline bleeding through into this one, like Juliet's "let's go for coffee".

Seems to me like alt-Keamy is targeting the candidates, maybe? I can't remember what it was that would make him give a shit about Sayid. Maybe it was just a coincidence.

Pretty sure that Kate is really a candidate and maybe Jacob is dummying Smokey by crossing off her name and pretending she isn't. There's no way he's getting Hurley onside, anyway.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 22:27 (sixteen years ago)

I hope alt-Sun is alright anyway. If only Jin could run into a surgeon who'd be able to save her.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 22:33 (sixteen years ago)

(Actually I fear that 'nothing happened' is possibly apt given that Lost has now trashed the concept of 'significant things happening' to the extent that a major character being shot in the chest by the father of her unborn child doesn't feel like that big a deal)

Matt DC, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 22:43 (sixteen years ago)

they stole the shot-in-the-eye thing from DONNIE DARKO LOL

shite new answers (cutty), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 22:49 (sixteen years ago)

geez that V countdown was annoying.

Yeah, especially in that scene near the end where Sun is showing Jack what she's written, and the paper is right there in the bottom-right corner of the screen!

jam master (jaymc), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 22:51 (sixteen years ago)

But does anyone even care what happens to alt-Sun? It's like Sayid at the beginning of this season: Kill him off or don't, I don't really care anymore.

But beyond that, I don't think there's really any suspense as to the outcome anyway. Just like there's no suspense as to whether Sun and Jin will eventually be reunited in the real timeline. They're just treading water with these characters until they do it already.

I wonder if they're stealing anything else from donnie darko.

Did you miss the whole episode where Keamy was extorting money from Sayid's brother and Sayid went to try and go "reason" with him because Nadia is married to his brother?

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 22:58 (sixteen years ago)

apparently!

Lol at Sun running into a tree.
Much as I like filling in backstory, I still think this season's pace is slowing down almost to a standstill and it feels like we're running out of episodes.

Not the real Village People, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 23:01 (sixteen years ago)

Oh yeah great to see Room 23 and Mikhail again.

Think this was the biggest indication yet that it's actually Widmore who was on the 'right' side throughout S3 and S4, and that he was trying to kill Ben because he knew what was going to happen.

I dunno, my feeling is that the Ben/Widmore feud was purely about who was in charge of the Others, and also based on Widmore's initial dismissal from the camp. Their hatred for each other goes way back and seems to be based on stupid feuds about who had a kid where.

I think it makes much more sense Widmore and Ben just hate each other than Widmore knowing Ben was going to be convinced by MIB to kill Jacob.

Fairly sure the Widmore/Ben thing and huge amounts of Widmore's past are just twists and turns and feints towards storylines they changed their mind about anyway.

EG why in the name of jesus would Widmore have planted the flight wreckage....to protect the candidates or something???

I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 23:06 (sixteen years ago)

the alt is starting to feel like some sort of matrix style dreamworld at this point, like someone will peel back a palm tree and oh look it's the restaurant

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 23:09 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah I'd just forgotten the whole Sayid thing.

I think at this point filling in backstory is more important than what's actually happening on the island. It kinda feels like there isn't much to happen on the island now other than a big fight between the Smokey dudes and the Jacob/Richard/Widmore dudes.

Fairly sure the Widmore/Ben thing and huge amounts of Widmore's past are just twists and turns and feints towards storylines they changed their mind about anyway.

Yeah maybe, but they've brought Widmore back for a reason and they have ways to reconcile that I'm sure. In any case they've known where they were going since midway through S3 and the appearance of Jacob's cabin, and Widmore wasn't really a particularly big thing until then.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 23:11 (sixteen years ago)

maybe widmore will tell us why that fucking bird said hurley's name

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 23:12 (sixteen years ago)

Have they really known where they were going since then? I don't have any faith in that. Or even if they have known where they're going they've gone loads of other places to make the show more exciting.

There are a lot of times now where Lost is a show of many dreary coincidences. I still really enjoy it but seeing Mikhail wasn't even a shock, just "oh right, there he is..."

Even Desmond was pretty obvious before it showed his face.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 23:13 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah Desmond was totally obvious, the Richard backstory was totally obvious as well, but still strangely enjoyable to see. I know the rest of the viewing public isn't looking at it in the same way as this thread and others are, but it'd be nice to be totally wrong-footed in one episode. At the moment they seem to be trailing everything two or three episodes in advance.

The Mikhail/Keamy/Charlotte stuff just feels like the writers doing a lap of honour for all the actors. Like this episode would have felt more sinister had it just been random gangster dudes.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 23:21 (sixteen years ago)

I dunno, Keamy is fucking brilliant, god the guy is just a reprehensible bastard. He's surely acted his way into bigger roles.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 23:24 (sixteen years ago)

His Hamlet was brilliant.

Keamy freaks me the fuck out. When I was growing up my best friend's brother looked a looot like him and was way more psychotic.

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 23:45 (sixteen years ago)

for ex. he drove a red el camino and in his mid fuckin 20's if he saw a little kid riding down the street on a bike he would stop the car, get out, push the kid off the bike, throw the bike into the truck bed and drive off

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 23:46 (sixteen years ago)

so he was more like jack then

even tho i know this is reprehensible (i woulda been that kid), this is k-awesome

also the dude that plays keamy is excellent, would watch again A+++

ok wait stealing the bike is totally awful, n/m

but still, reminds me of when my friends would go water-ballooning in the summer: drive around, see a kid like walking the family dog, drive around the block, and lob a few water balloons at him

again, totally awful (almost as bad as yelling!), but still secretly small-town hilarious

drink more beer and the doctor is a heghog (gbx), Thursday, 1 April 2010 01:05 (sixteen years ago)

Now I'm thinking of a Lost spinoff with Keamy as a Dexter-style psychotic/poor man's Walken living next door to a wholesome family ... hijinks ensue when the border collie's severed head is found in Dad's bed one morning

Brakhage, Thursday, 1 April 2010 01:08 (sixteen years ago)

Oh, it's a sitcom

totally into keamy, dude is killing that role

i blame this episode on the director Paul A. Edwards, who hasn't made a great episode yet, and has made some real stinkers. Here's the episodes he's done:

"What Kate Did" (but I can't blame him for getting stuck with Kate episodes)
"Two for the Road" (aka Ana Lucia And Libby Get Shot For Drunk Driving)
"The Glass Ballerina" (where he fucked up jae lee's death)
"Par Avion"
"Cabin Fever"
"This Place Is Death"
"The Variable" (another one that should've been better)
"What Kate Does"
"The Package"

how are those potatoes?

DEAD

archer's goon (tpp), Thursday, 1 April 2010 07:37 (sixteen years ago)

But isn't The Variable widely considered the greatest episode?

Dan I., Thursday, 1 April 2010 07:37 (sixteen years ago)

You're probably thinking of "The Constant".

Nhex, Thursday, 1 April 2010 07:54 (sixteen years ago)

oops, you're right.

Dan I., Thursday, 1 April 2010 08:04 (sixteen years ago)

i thought that episode was pretty crappy but it had to happen
good points:

- return of the drum + bass room
- sun running into a tree
- return of mikhail
- DESMOND (wans't really a suprise but....DESMOND!)
- jack promising to get everyone off the island (YOU ONLY CAME BACK ON A MAGICAL PLANE A FEW DAYS AGO WTF)

archer's goon (tpp), Thursday, 1 April 2010 08:43 (sixteen years ago)

oh yeah the tomato was so lols too

archer's goon (tpp), Thursday, 1 April 2010 08:50 (sixteen years ago)

during the episode i was outraged by the sun forgetting english thing. i mean wtf what a ridiculous way to waste an episode. but reading what u guys are saying that it could be related to the two timelines bleeding into each other is kind of cool.
