the island all along may have been a prison colony for an evil spirit, with Jacob as jailer.

Jacob kicking Richard's ass was pretty unexpected.

Favorite episode of the season by far.

Re: Jacob's fighting Richard - I really liked that 150 years ago he actually wasn't quite as mellow as he is now (or as implied in the S5 finale flashback). If anything, he seemed very angry and Shepard-like. But it also very much is in line with his "What about you?" response to Ben's demands for answers in last year's finale.

Now that we know it was Richard's job to intervene on Jacob's behalf with the people he brought to the island, the last 5 seasons sure do make a lot of sense. lol.

If Jacob's goal is to keep MIB on the island. And MIB can't leave the island as long as Jacob is alive. And MIB can't kill Jacob himself. Then why is Jacob so eager to bring people to the island and MIB so opposed to it? Because those people Jacob brings are just opportunities for MIB to find his loophole. What's more important to MIB: getting off the island or being right about human nature? And the same question goes to Jacob: Is it more important to keep MIB on island or be right about human nature?

Loved all the callbacks to Ben's being recruited as the loophole - Isabella/Alex, 'you'll do whatever I ask', etc

Also love the way MIB has adopted the use of self-help pop psychoanalysis for manipulating people in the modern age, whereas in olden times it was religion

All the actors were top-notch as well, Carbonell and Welliver especially

Fundamentally are people happy that the island is a cork keeping evil trapped? Are people happy with this turn of events?

I'm not. I think it's dumb. I don't think I could ever rewatch seasons 1-4 with that notion in my head.

Hopefully it's a lie.

I really hate being a downer. But I just don't think I like the direction this show is going in.

I'll take good vs evil over an endlessly convoluted explanation. obviously you need some tolerance for that to be a fan of this show but I like when its tethered to something simple and clear.

I didn't think I would be down with the show ending up as some big quasi-religion good vs evil thing but the way they presented it is halfway interesting imo

I'm going to love finding out exactly why MIB is evil incarnate for Jacob, a lot of what MIB has perpetrated onscreen could be put down to his just trying to escape

i did like Action Jacob. so much better than Probst Jacob.
