It is too distracting. I don't know if it's an insecurity thing as well, maybe it is, maybe not. But mostly it's just -- I mean, what is pleasant about finding someone really attractive? What can you do with that? xpost yes exactly!

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:15 (twenty years ago)

Hey, the return key really is broken!

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:15 (twenty years ago)

Is paragraphing on ILX broken? Let's see.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:16 (twenty years ago)

Yes it is.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:16 (twenty years ago)

Fuck a break tag.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:17 (twenty years ago)

There's a mod board thread about it.

Does the HTML version work?

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:17 (twenty years ago)

doesn't that just put them on a pedestal?

Sweet Tater (kelstarry), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:19 (twenty years ago)

Plus on a cold intellectual level I think being attracted to someone is a stupid reason to be attracted to them.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:19 (twenty years ago)

Back before I was medicated and was living with my head up my ass I would get really uptight at the flower shop when I found a particular flower really beautiful. I would suffer from a wave of anxiety and think, what am I going to do about this? My mind was stimulated and I felt like I was being compelled to react, but had no means to do so.

unclejessjess (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:19 (twenty years ago)

It's frustrating to have to put a "p" tag before every paragraph.

But I'll do it if I have to.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:19 (twenty years ago)

I'm not sure what you mean by that. It's not so much "you are so awesome and no one can touch you". It's more like they're causing an unquenchable thirst. They are like drinking ocean water.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:20 (twenty years ago)

(That was to kel.)

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:21 (twenty years ago)

Plus on a cold intellectual level I think being attracted to someone is a stupid reason to be attracted to them.

So what's a good reason? They can juggle?

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:21 (twenty years ago)

That is a better reason, although perhaps not much better.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:23 (twenty years ago)

Plus on a cold intellectual level I think being attracted to someone is a stupid reason to be attracted to them. Awesome. Now I'm not going to be able to get that thought out of my thoughts for AGES. Besides, yeah -- why the hell would one of the Beautiful People want to go out with me, is what I think when I see a superbly cool/dressed/accessorized boy on train. Only it doesn't feel self-pitying, it just feels pragmatic!

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:23 (twenty years ago)

A better reason to be attracted to someone: You have spent some time with them, and either not felt alienated, or have felt alienated in a pleasing way.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:23 (twenty years ago)

I don't understand. Are you rejecting physical attractiveness as a criterion for being... well... physically attracted to someone? Or are you rejecting your own reaction to finding someone attractive?

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:24 (twenty years ago)

I am off to see the movie. More about this later, maybe!

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:25 (twenty years ago)

I don't want to sound shallow, but I enjoy having sex with people that I want to have sex with. Not as much people I don't.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:25 (twenty years ago)

But Chris has also said that he's done with sex.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:27 (twenty years ago)

Unquenchable thirst. I don't know why this is mainly an associated with aesthetically pleasing things/people. Maybe because of the illusory nature of outward beauty? If you find someone's mind attractive then there is more room for digging? If you are captivated by a beautiful body and face then you can try to dig and dig, but it's like teflon clad diamonds or something? I do think that it's important to be physically attracted to your partner, but too much beauty is frustrating.

unclejessjess (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:27 (twenty years ago)

You just have to reason with yourself. Next time you see a guy that makes you get all sticky, just think, "Eh... he's probably a meathead anyway" and don't bother with him.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:29 (twenty years ago)

I guess the guys I'm most holistically attracted to are guys who I feel are attractive to ME in a way that is unique. I'm tired of thinking about this.

unclejessjess (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:32 (twenty years ago)

I don't like the feeling of being attracted to someone that everybody is attracted to, I think. xpost

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:32 (twenty years ago)

I like this Jesse. He makes sense.

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:32 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I agree! I'm all about the holistically hot.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:33 (twenty years ago)

I like this Jesse. He makes sense. -- Laurel (sininspac...), March 7th, 2006. ha ha, I don't hear that too often, therefore I LIKE LAUREL.

unclejessjess (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:33 (twenty years ago)

Shit, I forgot about the paragraphs...

unclejessjess (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:35 (twenty years ago)

JEFF's RELATIONSHIP TIP: People really aren't made for each other. The idea that two humans can get along for a long time is absurd. The best case scenario is to find someone who's baggage you can deal with and vice versa. If you can deal with the most annoying parts of their personalities, you're set! And make sure they are hot.

Jeff. (Jeff), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:35 (twenty years ago)

Laurel's quite likeable.

Sweet Tater (kelstarry), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:36 (twenty years ago)

Agreed.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:36 (twenty years ago)

Jesse, not so much.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:37 (twenty years ago)

(J/K I LOVE YOU BOO)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:37 (twenty years ago)

Jeff OTM. I hold no grudges against the hot.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:38 (twenty years ago)

I think what Jeff said is right, but with the sunnier view that while, yes, you will have to endure the negative, there will be high points, and you have to make sure that you're both going to be able to make these high points happen together. I have met people who I think were "meant for each other" but they were the biggest fattest exceptions to a rule that ever happened.

unclejessjess (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:39 (twenty years ago)

BTW- Who is Laurel? Did we already get introduced? Is Laurel HOT?

unclejessjess (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:39 (twenty years ago)

I agree, Jeff knows what he's talking about. He read a book about scientific marriage or something, right? I find myself drawn to droopy, sad, brown eyes, strong chins and people who can deal with how spazzy and huggy I am. Dan is the only one who managed to fulfill all three requirements.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:40 (twenty years ago)

As was previously established, all the girls here are hot.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:41 (twenty years ago)

Oh that's right, Laurel from Michigan. Gotcha.

unclejessjess (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:41 (twenty years ago)

http://myspace-346.vo.llnwd.net/00472/64/33/472823346_s.jpg Hi, Jesse, I am Laurel. I live in New York, I just lurk around this here Chicago thread. To be fair I am FROM Michigan, so a fellow midwesterner. -- Laurel (sininspac...), March 7th, 2006 12:31 PM. (Laurel) (later) (link)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:41 (twenty years ago)

Shut up john.

unclejessjess (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:42 (twenty years ago)

Get used to it.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:42 (twenty years ago)

I haven't seen that picture. My my my. And she smokes!

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:42 (twenty years ago)

Wow, is that Laurel?

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:43 (twenty years ago)

NOW I'm going to the Jim. To summarize my points on beauty: I need a man who will provide for me. Provide jackhammer paced forking followed up by marathon snowballing. XOXO Jesse

unclejessjess (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:43 (twenty years ago)

How touching.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:44 (twenty years ago)

"marathon snowballing"? How would that work? I'm reminded of "pooping back and forth forever."

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:45 (twenty years ago)

I just came in here to post this picture: http://www.cordair.com/bokor/images/beginnings/beginnings.jpg

Nutsy the Squirrel (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:47 (twenty years ago)

OMG

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:48 (twenty years ago)

I need a cigarette.
