I figure there is only one outrigger and it's been traveling through time and meeting itself.
― abanana, Saturday, 20 March 2010 18:59 (sixteen years ago)
I know, seriously, they're like a new compass.
There's three of em though. Beginning of 507 MIB and Ilana are standing by two, and the third was taken by Frank and Sun the night before.
I wasn't trying to get hung up on the boats per se (reminds me of a test question: 'You have three boats. If five people take four trips ...') but I was thinking that the boats, and the people in one in 504, signaled the arrival of yet another group which we haven't seen, maybe from the future, made up either of people we've already met (my guess) or yet to meet. I was wondering whether they were responsible for the Ajira massacre but I'd doubt it given that MIB wanted them gone.

I really don't think Jacob and Smokey represent good vs. evil. They are more like Randolph and Mortimer Duke: two powerful dudes with differing theories about humanity.

This needed to be posted again.
― President Keyes, Saturday, 20 March 2010 19:54 (sixteen years ago)
yeah i think rather than good vs. evil it will be free will vs. destiny
― archer's goon (tpp), Sunday, 21 March 2010 10:44 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah, the good v. evil stuff is a red herring. The show's pretty nuanced when it comes to morality - even Ben, who has a pretty massive body count at this point, isn't irredeemable (well, at least in the alt).
This is a nice read on that topic:http://www.docarzt.com/lost/lost-in-myth/marc-oromaner’s-lost-in-myth-the-lesson-of-“dr-linus”─what-about-you/
Along with free will vs. destiny, and faith vs. reason, there's another axis in the show, nature vs. nurture. In the alt the inherent character dynamics are largely the same, but the way in which those traits are inflicted on others has changed. The alt is a more conciliatory world, built less on secrecy and private torment as the main island timeline is.
Loving the Jesus parallel with MIB, with him wandering around with the knife's tear in his shirt.
― Brakhage, Sunday, 21 March 2010 19:45 (sixteen years ago)
I assume the outriggers have always been there. I mean, how did people go back and forth between the island and hydra station way back in season 3?
― peter in montreal, Monday, 22 March 2010 13:47 (sixteen years ago)
Carl & Sawyer made it across in a canoe or something.
― President Keyes, Monday, 22 March 2010 13:51 (sixteen years ago)
Did we ever find out who it was that was shooting at the time jumpers?
― Maraca Son Sistema (Matt DC), Monday, 22 March 2010 14:04 (sixteen years ago)
I mean from the boats, not the group led by Young Widmore.
― Maraca Son Sistema (Matt DC), Monday, 22 March 2010 14:05 (sixteen years ago)
Nope. My guess is that we'll see that scene reenacted in S6 from the viewpoint of the people on that boat firing on Sawyer/Juliet/Miles/Locke etc.
― Brakhage, Monday, 22 March 2010 17:02 (sixteen years ago)
Wouldn't surprise me at all if we never see it again.
― no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Monday, 22 March 2010 17:02 (sixteen years ago)
think the most sensible explanation would be that that incident occurred in the 'now' at some point and it was Widmore's ppl doing the firing

quotes about zoe:
She is Charles Widmore's right hand. She does all his dirty work. But she has her own strategy and agenda as well. In one script, I'm going in one direction. In another script, I'm going 180 degrees the other way.She is looking for someone on the island. This beautiful journey of this entire show, between good and evil, between science and faith, lies within Zoe.Zoe has the answer. Zoe knows.

I'd to point out that there is a Richard Alpert episode tonight and we should be anticipating the hell out of it already.
― President Keyes, Tuesday, 23 March 2010 13:14 (sixteen years ago)
was a bit put off by his repeated "i've seen things you wouldn't believe" remarks. yeah yeah...but the next week previews for Lost these days are really terrible.
presumably the altline is based on Richard having left the island at some point (as with Ben), but will he still be ageless and wear eyeliner?
― mdskltr (blueski), Tuesday, 23 March 2010 13:20 (sixteen years ago)
Maybe he starts aging when the island sinks & he'll look 70.
― President Keyes, Tuesday, 23 March 2010 13:31 (sixteen years ago)
do we know Richard will have a flash sideways (and not, say, a flashback?)
― iggy figgy pudding pop (some dude), Tuesday, 23 March 2010 13:47 (sixteen years ago)
I hope it's a flashback.
― President Keyes, Tuesday, 23 March 2010 14:07 (sixteen years ago)
A flash sideways would, I think, give us a big indication on where the alt-timeline is going, and possibly what happened after the bomb blast. A flashback would at least answer the Black Rock question. There's no reason why they can't do both, actually, and have his episode go over an arc of several hundred years.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 23 March 2010 14:12 (sixteen years ago)
I just hope the entire episode takes place in the past other than an intro/outro framing device. Key points: arrival of Black Rock, Richard being found chained up down below, Jacob touch garbage, what happened when he went to meet young Ben.
― mh, Tuesday, 23 March 2010 14:32 (sixteen years ago)
The question I still want to see addressed is whether the island has been moved before and time-jumped. That'd explain why Richard looked completely different to young Ben, right?
― mh, Tuesday, 23 March 2010 14:33 (sixteen years ago)
I hope Jack & co. sit around a campfire & Richard tells his story, doing spooky voices for MIB & Jacob.
― President Keyes, Tuesday, 23 March 2010 14:52 (sixteen years ago)
x-post Richard looked different to young Ben because he was in Other-gear, right?
― President Keyes, Tuesday, 23 March 2010 14:53 (sixteen years ago)

Would be good, otherwise we'll get half of the episode taken up on-Island during which Richard convinces Hurley and Jack to get on a boat to the other island.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 23 March 2010 15:09 (sixteen years ago)
Knowing this show, Richard's story will be presented like this:
Richard: I've seen things you wouldn't believe.
Jack: You wouldn't believe what I'm willing to believe.
Richard: Whatever. It's not important right now. We have to walk somewhere.

I worry about the doughy-looking widmore lackey. That actor always seems to play dudes that get victimized. I swear he was on a Law and Order where Stabler and Ice-T and Belzer beat him up and ate him.
