did anyone ever tell ben that juliet died?

he might like to know that considering he loved her beautiful blond ass too

I wonder if Ben is a virgin.

ha never considered that.

erm...okay first observation, a plane is seemingly impossible to fly for a total novice but a sub is obv just like riding a bike

kinda love that Sawyer has completely stopped giving a shit about the crazy magic of the island and just accepts it at face value now

oh yeah another eye-rolling thing from this ep. was Sawyer lovingly fondling Kate's dress in the polar bear cage. you just left Kate five minutes ago dude!
was hoping he'd grab a fishbiscuit for old times sake though

Claire sure did pile up a a lotta garbage.

what i don't get is where ben vs widmore is going to fit into widmore vs smokey. prob another made it up as they went along moment. i am enjoying this series but pretty sure it's going to reveal a huge amount of needless made for shock value endings, moments, reveals etc all through the show, which shames the writers a lot.
if it really is the character based show they claim it is they wouldn't need to have fucked around with the audience via the plot non stop since the very beginning.
x-post otm, left her without barely saying hi.

― I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 17 March 2010 19:56 (sixteen years ago)
He's never done a mass-killing prior to the Temple thing, to my knowledge. Meanwhile, The Others gassed the Dharma people and dug them a mass grave.

Haven't we been led to believe that Ben never really spoke to Jacob and was making shit up the whole time? I think Widmore talked to Jacob (or at least Smokey) when he was on the island and that was part of why he was forced out -- he was legit, but Ben convinced everyone he wasn't.
Whether that means Chuckles Widmore is working with Jacob or on his own sort of thing is yet to be seen.
― mh, Wednesday, 17 March 2010 20:01 (sixteen years ago)
FWIW I think it's completely possible Ben was working for Smokey and never knew the difference.
― mh, Wednesday, 17 March 2010 20:02 (sixteen years ago)
I'm rewatching S3 right now. It seems pretty clear to me that Ben is just making it up as he goes along. The Others are ready to kill Juliet and Ben lets her go, saying "the rules don't apply".
I thought it was pretty weird that Smokey called Sawyer the best liar he's ever met on an island that also includes Ben among its peoples. Also, Sawyer isn't good at lying at all.
― Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Wednesday, 17 March 2010 20:07 (sixteen years ago)
I actually really enjoyed this because it felt a lot like Season 4, good to see getting off the island being something the normal characters actually give a shit about.
Sawyer knows exactly how to pilot a sub. You stand there and point a gun at the dude who controls it and shout "DRIVE!"
Also the plane didn't crash, Lapidus landed it. Not that anyone could get that thing off the ground without a runway.
Charlotte and Miles' relationship to each other doesn't necessarily reveal much about what happened when the bomb went off - they could have been on the sub with young Ben when it left.
Still, Sawyer tracking down Locke's dad to kill him is the biggest clue yet as to where the alt-timeline stuff is heading. I give it another two or three episodes before the characters all end up in the same place, then something big is going to happen.

My guess will be that Widmore sussed ages ago that Ben was working to Smokey's agenda without realising it. It would explain why he went to such effort to kill him.

Some mental posts upthread. Hello sawyer already killed locke's dad on the island as already he was responsible for sawyer's parents dying.
― I see what this is (Local Garda), Thursday, 18 March 2010 02:09 (sixteen years ago)
Did we ever see smokey over there? I'm still skeptical that he can cross water.
Took a boat with Ben, middle of S5.
Widmore and Flocke are circling around each other for the moment, just because each knows the other is the only force around capable of doing them harm.
The Others constructed a runway during S3, in anticipation of the Ajira landing. Dunno if it'd be good enough for takeoff though.
So true, with the added bonus that it gets the writers out of having Sawyer show somewhat normal human curiosity.

Epileptic Trees alert: the alternate timeline where Oceanic 815 didn't crash but landed in LA successfully ACTUALLY is purgatory. Darlton are only on record as denying that Losties pot-crash experience on the island in the original timeline was purgatory.
― stuffies don't have corn in 'em (KMS), Thursday, 18 March 2010 03:55 (sixteen years ago)
Is that a spoiler? Because please don't post spoilers.
― Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Thursday, 18 March 2010 03:57 (sixteen years ago)
As much of a spoiler as the theory that the reasons the trees all started shaking at the end of the pilot episode was because they (the trees) all had epilepsy.
― stuffies don't have corn in 'em (KMS), Thursday, 18 March 2010 04:02 (sixteen years ago)
That is to say, if my wild guess that I just pulled out of my ass is even slightly correct, I will personally fly to Los Angeles to visit Messrs. Cuse and Lindelof and slap them across their respective faces for stupidity in writing.

I know ben prob knew nothing about who or what he was helping, but either way that's a v unsatisfying reason for this huge feud with widmore. Also why was Richard helping ben if Jacob didn't give a damn about him? Why did they risk killing the candidates so many tones instead of just going "hi you are candidates"
― I see what this is (Local Garda), Thursday, 18 March 2010 09:09 (sixteen years ago)
Oops...times not tones. Tho tones could be part of the reason.
Hello sawyer already killed locke's dad on the island as already he was responsible for sawyer's parents dying
Ummm, not in the alternate timeline he hasn't.
― Maraca Son Sistema (Matt DC), Thursday, 18 March 2010 09:47 (sixteen years ago)
i really want to see swayer's reaction to the black smoke at some point - hopefully just more blase nonchalance
― mdskltr (blueski), Thursday, 18 March 2010 10:53 (sixteen years ago)
Sawyer saw the black smoke take out a load of the Widmore commandos when he was in Otherville, surely? Also he must have been aware of it having spent three years as Dharma head of security.
― Maraca Son Sistema (Matt DC), Thursday, 18 March 2010 10:58 (sixteen years ago)
So if Charlotte works with Mile's dad at the museum, (and if it's Pierre Chang) then surely he remembers Miles and Sawyer from Dharmaville. Wonder if he's said anything to his son.
― President Keyes, Thursday, 18 March 2010 10:58 (sixteen years ago)
Miles's dad knew about the time travel though, if it happened in that reality.
I get the feeling something's being set up for a scene in which Sawyer is crouching in despair over Miles's dead body.
― Maraca Son Sistema (Matt DC), Thursday, 18 March 2010 11:01 (sixteen years ago)
Miles's dad knew about the time travel though
That's what I meant to say. Before now I assumed that all the people who might know what was going on (Eloise, Widmore, Jacob, Smokey) perished on the island in '77--but if Chang made it off safely then there are probably others roaming around the alt-timeline setting shit up.
― President Keyes, Thursday, 18 March 2010 11:04 (sixteen years ago)
it doesn't seem like they really have time to have everyone congregate in altworld now. are we meant to be seeing boone again?
love the idea of desmond being in the locker. seemed almost clunky for swayer to notice and ask what it was so has to be something "big".
hoping there's a proper widmore/ben scene where widmore explains how he found the island after it had been moved (would have to have involved some major sacrifice again, otherwise the whole 'move the island' plan is full of shit).
― mdskltr (blueski), Thursday, 18 March 2010 11:07 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah but it's the same thing in the alt, he's looking for dude who conned his parents. The same dude.
― I see what this is (Local Garda), Thursday, 18 March 2010 11:23 (sixteen years ago)
Sawyer tracking down Cooper would at least allow an opportunity for Sawyer, Miles, Locke and possibly Kate and Ben to all end up in the same place. Maybe others.
― Maraca Son Sistema (Matt DC), Thursday, 18 March 2010 11:29 (sixteen years ago)
My new crazy theory is that smokey is Anubis, because he compared his mother to Claire, and Claire replaced Aaron with a jackal skull (Anubis having the head of a jackal.)
