arg legs so tight

forksclovetofu, Monday, 15 March 2010 14:15 (sixteen years ago)

Got 10 miles in yesterday. Felt almost great the whole time. My highest mileage week in a while.

Jeff, Monday, 15 March 2010 14:38 (sixteen years ago)

goddammit
just sprained my ankle pretty badly on a rock while jogging
had to hop home with the dog yanking
can't really walk on it
in an ankle brace, raised above my heart, three ibuprofins
trying to borrow crutches
want this to be better in a few weeks
will ice periodically; other suggestions?

forksclovetofu, Monday, 15 March 2010 21:39 (sixteen years ago)

Amputation.

Ouch! Bad luck feller :(

aha i know about sprained ankles. do all the ice, keep it raised, get the crutches and should be ok within a few weeks. don't be tempted to stretch it or put too much weight on it and keep it well strapped when you do go out again.

oh and if you can't put any weight on it at all then get to a doctor

quiz show flat-track bully (darraghmac), Monday, 15 March 2010 21:51 (sixteen years ago)

Take an anti-inflammatory, too, if you don't mind doing so for 24-48 hours, while the swelling may be higher. I use Naproxen Sodium for such things.

ibuprofen will do the trick too.

quiz show flat-track bully (darraghmac), Monday, 15 March 2010 21:52 (sixteen years ago)

Yes. Or heroin.

ogmor, Monday, 15 March 2010 21:55 (sixteen years ago)

forksclovetofu, Monday, 15 March 2010 21:56 (sixteen years ago)

ogmor, Monday, 15 March 2010 22:00 (sixteen years ago)

First ever run scheduled for the Mall on Saturday with very athletic co-worker who has promised to humour me.

ljubljana, Monday, 15 March 2010 23:32 (sixteen years ago)

does anyone smoke cigarettes and also run? I am looking for strategies to keep smoking in my life and add running. The internet is not much help in this regard.

I smoke (not cigarettes) occasionally, and it doesn't seem to have much of an effect on my running... I'm still taking a break from it for the month before my marathon, which happens to be on 4/20... :D

antexit, Monday, 15 March 2010 23:57 (sixteen years ago)

if i get too good at running i might take up smoking. going through a pack of cigars over a race cld be a dope look/taunt imo, ashing it with a wink as you overtake ppl

race to the hospital

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 16 March 2010 01:07 (sixteen years ago)

5 out of my 7 closest friends have now signed up for this half marathon in july, only 1 of which has ever really run before. lol going-on-30-years-old-male bravado.

DarraghmacKwacz (darraghmac), Friday, 19 March 2010 16:14 (sixteen years ago)

ankle is feeling notably better; I tried knocking around the city on crutches, which sucks. My underarms are bruised, i have welts on my hands from gripping and my shoulders are sore.
Gonna try walking to the grocery today. I figure i should be able to walk normally again by Tuesday, maybe try a tentative jog by friday next.

forksclovetofu, Friday, 19 March 2010 16:27 (sixteen years ago)

that seems very quick- what did the doctor say?

DarraghmacKwacz (darraghmac), Friday, 19 March 2010 16:32 (sixteen years ago)

I've been running more, which is great, but I seem to have a small injury now. At first I thought it was just calf soreness, but I think it's radiating up from my left food. Seems to be a pain directly from the bottom of my foot.

Jeff, Friday, 19 March 2010 16:34 (sixteen years ago)

doctor didn't say anything; i'm basing my timing on a history of having sprained my ankle regularly for the past twenty years.

forksclovetofu, Friday, 19 March 2010 17:02 (sixteen years ago)

fair enough, whenever i manage to do it i'm usually out of any action (running/football) for at least a month

DarraghmacKwacz (darraghmac), Friday, 19 March 2010 17:07 (sixteen years ago)

well, given that i keep reinjuring it, i should maybe take it slower.
but the weather's so nice!

forksclovetofu, Friday, 19 March 2010 17:16 (sixteen years ago)

first non stop 3 miles. 31 mins. guess i have a target for next time then.

DarraghmacKwacz (darraghmac), Saturday, 20 March 2010 19:09 (sixteen years ago)

NICE!

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Saturday, 20 March 2010 20:30 (sixteen years ago)

that's good going.

half marathon in a week, been running such short distances really careful w/ my knee that I'll be pleased just to finish

ogmor, Saturday, 20 March 2010 20:42 (sixteen years ago)

i got up this morning all excited about a nice before-work jog and it was SNOWING. it's a lot harder to stomach snow after a 60 degree week.

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Saturday, 20 March 2010 21:12 (sixteen years ago)

my exact position is that we shouldnt be surprised abt the notion that there are people who feel themselves to be without gender, but I do feel that we should be pretty happy at the prospect of a minor stepping stone in the rights of trans ppl (also we shouldnt really be treating this like its some sort of curiosity, bc thats a bit gross tbh)

plax (ico), Saturday, 20 March 2010 21:18 (sixteen years ago)

I think you're running away from the core issue.

forksclovetofu, Saturday, 20 March 2010 21:20 (sixteen years ago)

hahaha trans ppl be joggin

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Saturday, 20 March 2010 21:23 (sixteen years ago)

Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Farting in Space (NickB), Saturday, 20 March 2010 21:56 (sixteen years ago)

Did you still go for a run La Lechera?

Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Farting in Space (NickB), Saturday, 20 March 2010 21:57 (sixteen years ago)

i didn't :(
i couldn't find my pants and it was pitch dark and the wet sloppy rain just made me crawl back into bed. tomorrow though, if it stops snowing. i'm ok with cold, but wind/slop is just over the line.

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Saturday, 20 March 2010 22:19 (sixteen years ago)

I'm using the weather as an excuse to rest my ailing foot.

Jeff, Sunday, 21 March 2010 00:23 (sixteen years ago)

jus did 7.7 my doggs, crossed into n hampshire, lived so free

ice cr?m, Sunday, 21 March 2010 00:38 (sixteen years ago)

29:05 last night. :)

sorry to blog, but it's a big help to have somewhere to post 'achievements' (punctuation runner's own) with witnesses, keeps me pushign for next time.

DarraghmacKwacz (darraghmac), Monday, 22 March 2010 11:13 (sixteen years ago)

BTW anyone see the Eddie Izzard program about his marathon running? Missed it here, need to fire up the iPlayer in the next couple of days...

saw part 4 of this last night- it was jaw dropping. can't say enough how impressed i was by him.

DarraghmacKwacz (darraghmac), Monday, 22 March 2010 12:27 (sixteen years ago)

how did you start running? as a 32 and a bit year old couch potato with a sedentary job, I'm slightly afraid I might kill myself, or that I'll just look stoopid.

tomofthenest, Monday, 22 March 2010 12:48 (sixteen years ago)

i'll post it again: http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-380-381-386-9397-0,00.html

i'm 34 and not at all athletic. you will not look stupid. START SLOW.

I know, it was phenomenal. Just goes to show you what you can achieve just by being intensely stubborn and possibly a bit nuts.
