something on par with the Tyson-Douglas upset.

let's not get carried away - Bodog has the following proposition odds:

Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 1 30/1
Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 2 28/1
Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 3 25/1
Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 4 25/1
Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 5 23/1
Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 6 19/1
Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 7 17/1
Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 8 15/1
Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 9 15/1
Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 10 11/1
Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 11 9/1
Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 12 9/1
Manny Pacquiao by 12 Round Decision 7/5

Draw 19/1

Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 1 90/1
Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 2 80/1
Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 3 70/1
Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 4 60/1
Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 5 60/1
Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 6 58/1
Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 7 58/1
Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 8 58/1
Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 9 58/1
Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 10 60/1
Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 11 60/1
Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 12 60/1
Joshua Clottey by 12 Round Decision 19/2

by contrast, only one casino in Las Vegas would even give any kind of odds at all for Tyson-Douglas, and it was 42-1 for Douglas.

the most sacred couple in Christendom (J0hn D.), Saturday, 13 March 2010 17:50 (sixteen years ago)

Hmm. Ok, fair. But the wave Pac is riding is very similiar to how Tyson was seen. Can't be stopped. Invincible. Or, to kind of reference a Guided By Voices lyric...bulldozing the bulldozers away. Also, take into consideration how much that changes the landscape in relation to the Pac/Mayweather fight. Clottey will be a huge party pooper. But yeah, see your point.

SourPatchCorpse, Saturday, 13 March 2010 18:14 (sixteen years ago)

Clottey's a legit contender no doubt but I think Pacman's rep is way less mystical/media-enhanced than Tyson's - also, Pacquiao fights long fights. Seems to drink up punishment like a sponge. Tyson's game was, largely, being too fast and mobile and aggressive to get hit; half the guys he fought barely laid a glove on him. Pacquiao on the other hand, look at the Berrera or Marquez or Morales fights. Dude loves to scrap. Clottey's good, but he hasn't fought near the class of the guy's Pacquiao's run with. He hits super hard but I don't think he's as insane as Pacquiao about wanting to win.

nb tho I am just nutty for Pacquiao, that dude is the joy of boxing wrapped up in a small package

the most sacred couple in Christendom (J0hn D.), Saturday, 13 March 2010 18:27 (sixteen years ago)

True. A couple of things though. Clottey beat Zab Judah who is a super quick southpaw (like someone we know)...and he took heavy punches from Antonio Margarito who packs a goddamn wallop. Also, some would say- De La Hoya was washed up, Hatton was...well, Hatton...and Cotto was a different fighter after his defeat to Margarito (the hand wraps)

SourPatchCorpse, Saturday, 13 March 2010 18:47 (sixteen years ago)

I think the biggest thing in Clottey's favour is that he's a fucking monster compared with what (in my mind) Manny's used to fighting, and has faced power at that level, but the last couple of years have seen Manny knock the fuck out of a whole bunch of next biggest guys. I can't even imagine Manny fighting a guy the size Manny used to be. It's mind-bogling the weight divisions he's gone through tbh. Every time he fights a bigger guy I think he's going to find himself either losing his speed and power or simply punching a guy who doesn't feel it but it doesn't happen, or hasn't happened yet.

the pity party of tiny feet (onimo), Saturday, 13 March 2010 23:39 (sixteen years ago)

I've never been to a boxing match. There's been shitloads of world title fights in Scotland in my lifetime, yet never been to one. One of my mates was gonna get tix for the tyson fight (his fave boxer ever) but even he decided not to go incase a past it tyson ruined his memories. We argued many an hour over frank bruno back in the day haha (he hated him) the arguments started in 1st year at high school and still exist now!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 13 March 2010 23:41 (sixteen years ago)

i've been to a few boxing nights but never title level. I once failed to get £25 then £35 then £75 tickets to see Naz in Glasgow then thanked my lucky stars as he sparked the other guy (Medina?) out in about 30 seconds (including an 8 and a 10 count).

the pity party of tiny feet (onimo), Sunday, 14 March 2010 00:30 (sixteen years ago)

wasn't Medina - need to look it up

I have all 3 rounds for pacquiao so far but the 3rd had some lively clottey moments in the first 90 seconds

the most sacred couple in Christendom (J0hn D.), Sunday, 14 March 2010 04:59 (sixteen years ago)

agree

johnny crunch, Sunday, 14 March 2010 05:00 (sixteen years ago)

holy shit @ 2-handed razzle-dazzle from pacman

the most sacred couple in Christendom (J0hn D.), Sunday, 14 March 2010 05:01 (sixteen years ago)

round 6 classic pacquiao: land two blows on him and it's like he used 'em for power-ups, comes back with flurries of six at a time.

his style is just so good.

the most sacred couple in Christendom (J0hn D.), Sunday, 14 March 2010 05:07 (sixteen years ago)

Clottey still dangerous! realistically though I think you can only give him two rounds through round 7, which puts him in "you have to knock pacquiao out" territory, which is just not a good place to be

the most sacred couple in Christendom (J0hn D.), Sunday, 14 March 2010 05:14 (sixteen years ago)

holy shit @ pac's 5-punch combo

the most sacred couple in Christendom (J0hn D.), Sunday, 14 March 2010 05:18 (sixteen years ago)

clotteys corner said we're losin every damn round

johnny crunch, Sunday, 14 March 2010 05:19 (sixteen years ago)

clottey got some great hard punches in there in round 10 in between getting hammered. still punching very hard though. I don't think anybody really has the so-called "puncher's chance" against pacquiao, but the ones clottey landed in 10 were really solid.

the most sacred couple in Christendom (J0hn D.), Sunday, 14 March 2010 05:27 (sixteen years ago)

this is a terrible fight because both guys are too likable - i'm not even watching, i dont want to see clottey get annihilated

:3 (cankles), Sunday, 14 March 2010 05:27 (sixteen years ago)

cankles otm but pacquiao's style - it's just beautiful. there's so much to it, so many looks that all fit together.

the most sacred couple in Christendom (J0hn D.), Sunday, 14 March 2010 05:31 (sixteen years ago)

make the fight w/ floyd happen ffs

johnny crunch, Sunday, 14 March 2010 05:33 (sixteen years ago)

too easy for pacman, but it never looked like anyone would be knocked out

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 14 March 2010 05:34 (sixteen years ago)

12-round style clinic is 100% cool with me

the most sacred couple in Christendom (J0hn D.), Sunday, 14 March 2010 05:35 (sixteen years ago)

mayweather fight would have been good too but I honestly don't think anybody can beat pacquiao right now

the most sacred couple in Christendom (J0hn D.), Sunday, 14 March 2010 05:35 (sixteen years ago)

man you know what would have been a fucking awesome fight? pac-man vs. julio cesar chavez

the most sacred couple in Christendom (J0hn D.), Sunday, 14 March 2010 05:38 (sixteen years ago)

Sorry I missed this, just watched a couple of rounds on youtube and Manny looked untouchable. Disappointed Clottey hid behind his hands so much but I think the early tone put him in survival mode and he couldn't really breakout of it.

12-round style clinic is 100% cool with me

So otm. I love to see a big knockout as much as the next blood thirsty loon but nothing beats 12 rounds of schooling - Calzaghe vs Lacy a great example, who cares if Joe wasn't concussive just fucking watch the guy box.

the pity party of tiny feet (onimo), Sunday, 14 March 2010 10:37 (sixteen years ago)

Fell asleep drunk and missed it. Will watch it later. Mayweather needs to man the fuck up imo

Twink Will Ferrell (J0hn D.), Saturday, 3 April 2010 17:43 (sixteen years ago)

Not a boxing stan, but Brits should check out When Harry Met Ali:A Tribute to Harry Carpenter, some fantastic footage, not least this reaction to Ali winning his title back in the 'Rumble in the Jungle', spine tingling stuff.

The Man With the Magic Eardrums (Billy Dods), Saturday, 3 April 2010 18:22 (sixteen years ago)

Explosive start from Haye - had Ruiz down twice in the first (the second with a cheap shot in the back of the head). Then he wasted the second round walking away. Strange fight.

nasri like the wolf (onimo), Saturday, 3 April 2010 22:20 (sixteen years ago)

is the fight PPV?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 3 April 2010 22:25 (sixteen years ago)

dunno I'm watching it on Veetle :)

I'd take either Klitschko to take Haye's head off on this evidence.

nasri like the wolf (onimo), Saturday, 3 April 2010 22:27 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah. Also can't find a decent stream.

and Ruiz is down again

nasri like the wolf (onimo), Saturday, 3 April 2010 22:30 (sixteen years ago)

another punch in the back of the neck tbh

nasri like the wolf (onimo), Saturday, 3 April 2010 22:31 (sixteen years ago)

like haye as a fighter but wdn't mind seeing a (highly unlikely) sonning from old man rr

nakhchivan, Saturday, 3 April 2010 22:32 (sixteen years ago)

jr lol

nakhchivan, Saturday, 3 April 2010 22:32 (sixteen years ago)

ruiz getting his bum bum kicked

he might have even have gone in. (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 3 April 2010 22:33 (sixteen years ago)

Ruiz is a fucking hard guy to keep down. He's walking straight forward and Haye's picking him off at will but you get the sense Haye gets worried when Ruiz gets close in the corner.

nasri like the wolf (onimo), Saturday, 3 April 2010 22:36 (sixteen years ago)

Ruiz has been on his arse about six times yet it's still Haye boxing backwards looking to counter.

nasri like the wolf (onimo), Saturday, 3 April 2010 22:37 (sixteen years ago)

yeah wtf haye be a man and just go on the offensive

offensive like his ugly arse shorts

he might have even have gone in. (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 3 April 2010 22:38 (sixteen years ago)

Ruiz looks pretty much done but you have to admire the guy for not taking a backward step.

nasri like the wolf (onimo), Saturday, 3 April 2010 22:43 (sixteen years ago)

how did that hare/tortoise fable end
