A new 30 Rock thread because I can't find the old one

The sheer ration of amusing lines to dialogue is amazing, it seems like more than every other line. For someone brought up on British sitcoms this is an incredible thing.

It's not just AV Club that sez the show has JTS'ed, it seems every other usually tasteful and not-stupid internet entity is eulogizing 30 Rock. This is the one time that ILX is the sanest place on the internet.

Agree that the ep contends for best of season title -- I'm going to have to rewatch it soon for all the zings I missed -- but you crazy, Xmas ep was awesome.

yeah i know. comedy jamaican and indian accents are basically racial slurs in the uk regardless of the laughing with/laughing at stuff. but i think we can all agree that britain is generally pretty racist, so i'm not sweating it.

comedy indian accents are pretty slur-ish here. most non- west indian americans outside of nyc have never actually heard a jamaican accent.

However, I think Liz has gotten worse since the earlier seasons. Just this season I've started to dislike some of Liz's antics instead of brushing off the unfunny stuff as whatever. Liz is sort of like Michael Scott (The Office) - he has become more horrendous in his buffoonyness the past couple seasons; Liz has become more gross and more of a dork lately and some of it actually irritates me. I dunno, do any of you agree?

yeah they are playing up the liz is a loser stuff too much IMO

The one funny thing about the Jamaican accent bit was when she started accidentally slipping into that awful butchered Irish accent.

I agree except for the being irritated part.

also the thing about liz vs michael scott is that they actually write jokes for liz's character... for instance the cheese brochure thing and the amazing paranormal activity sleep walking thing -- with michael scott on the otherhand the character now boils down to "LOL I AM STILL A RACIST EVEN THOUGH I DON'T KNOW IT"

i feel like Tina Fey is just still generally ill at ease with being kind of worshipped as a sex symbol and does everything she can to subvert that in her comedy

no av club but i was watching the 1st season the other week and it was a lot less schticky and a lot, i dunno, deeper. not necc better/worse, just the diff. between season 1 of the simpsons and season 6 or whatever

idk... couldn't generalize. in some ways it's LESS shticky imo (except for kenneth but he's always been my least favourite character). like there are fewer fake catchphrases now, i think. it's all good though. <3 elizabeth banks.
