well even if death rarely means death on this show, i hope it's not pointing the way toward Ben not being in the last dozen episodes much, he's already underused enough so far this season

right now i'm guessing that the Others knew about the sideways universe from the beginning and could see it through mikhail's monitor. ben was traveling back and forth to it, observing locke by posing as a teacher (and getting his photo taken and given to miles).

Yeah the illness has never been of much interest. I thought that it was something Kelvin made up to stop Desmond leaving the hatch.

I hope that Locke somehow accidentally kills Ben in the alternative timeline. Death by kettle-related misfortune or something.

I forgot about that vaccine Desmond was shooting up. Funny that Claire, the only one of the 815ers to take the stuff, was the first to get the sickness.

Now that we know that Jacob goes around making deals with people to save their kids, it casts a different light on the Aussie psychic (Malkin) who pushed Claire onto 815--his daughter "miraculously" came back from the dead after drowning.

I hope that Locke somehow accidentally kills Ben in the alternative timeline.

so been rewatching...if locke is paralysed in the sideways timeline, and his dad is invited to the wedding, then WHO PARALYSED HIM?

been sort of wondering if the sideways is some sort of smokey controlled world. also is smokey getting off the island basically some doomsday scenario, eg he starts causing havoc in the real world? have a feeling it might build to this (without him ever succeeding...but these are fairly wacked out theories.)

^^ i don't think that's wacked out. there has to be more to the sideways timeline than the bullshit we've been getting

yeah i agree, it'll all come together for the end. the way the characters are meeting in the sideways is not just a funny quirk, it'll all start to dovetail soon i'm sure.

i said this upthread--i believe alternate timeline is what takes place after the finale, not as a direct result of the bomb being set off

we're basically seeing what happens when the show is over. but most likely i'm wrong.

if what we're seeing in the alt-timeline is smokey's work he seems a lot more inclined to make good stuff happen to people than jacob has ever been.

yeah but locke being with helen etc...if it is after the island it would have to be "after" only in the sense that it's basically as if it was before and the island never happened

is there any chance jack is doing jacob style recruiting in the sideways? saves charlie's life, gives locke his card etc...
