seems like there could still be tons of lost island mythology to mine. I mean, so far we really only know what happened on the island starting somewhere in the 1950s (I know there's the Black Rock, but we don't really know anything about it yet)

peter in montreal, Friday, 5 March 2010 21:37 (sixteen years ago)

if they start spinning this off in comic books, it's pretty much inevitable there's going to be at least one story about how the nazis try to find/take over the island.

peter in montreal, Friday, 5 March 2010 21:39 (sixteen years ago)

Locke's adventures as a tough guy philosopher poet wheelchair bound substitute middle school teacher. Aaron could be a student or something.

Undercover Boss goes wrong as Hurley works in a Mister Cluck's but ends up having to become a permanent employee after he finds out the fryer works only with his mastery of the island numbers. Alpert guest stars.

mh, Friday, 5 March 2010 21:45 (sixteen years ago)

If I were a sleazy ABC exec I'd be thinking about tying Lost into V and FlashForward beyond just poaching actors. What happened to that comedy paranormal cop show with Michael?

Also re: Conet Project -- yeah they never figured those numbers out! ... just like in LOST...

Philip Nunez, Friday, 5 March 2010 21:53 (sixteen years ago)

Wonder if we're going to find out how Ben et al "cured" Juliet's sister - anything to do with how Dogen got his son brought back to life? I'm down with "the island is magic" but unless they somehow brought her there...?

I guess this is one of those things they won't bother to revisit.

Not the real Village People, Friday, 5 March 2010 21:55 (sixteen years ago)

jacob probably healed jack's ex-wife too

The Unusuals lasted about 10 episodes. it wasn't paranormal or sci fi at all, it was just 'quirky.'

some dude, Friday, 5 March 2010 22:03 (sixteen years ago)

Lost being compared to twin peaks has always been insane.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Friday, 5 March 2010 22:13 (sixteen years ago)

In the early episodes, like Jack chasing the ghost of his dead father and the smoke monster being inexplicable, it seemed like we might get some more abstract and unexplained things going on, but that just wasn't the style they settled on.

Nhex, Friday, 5 March 2010 22:14 (sixteen years ago)

Damon Lindelof It's not about whether or not we have the time. It's about whether or not it matters.

Lost's original woring title was "The Circle" so I guess it makes sense that the numbers ended up being degrees on a big wheel. I wonder if that means that there were a total of 360 candidates throughout history and its down to 5 (+Kate, -Locke)

President Keyes, Friday, 5 March 2010 22:41 (sixteen years ago)

woring=working

President Keyes, Friday, 5 March 2010 22:42 (sixteen years ago)

mikhail said: that it was impossible for her to understand because she was not on "the list". He then went on to detail specific reasons why they were not on the list, indicating that Kate was "flawed", Sayid was "frightened", Rousseau was "weak", and Locke was "angry".

seeing how three of the above are out and kate is tagging along i think maybe we can trust mikhail that she isn't one of the candidates after all

sonderangerbot, Friday, 5 March 2010 23:14 (sixteen years ago)

I'm thinking that Locke was at least partially inhabited by Smokey from the very beginning. The Locke/Smokey ratio was prob skewed toward Locke to such an extent that he was not aware of Smokey's presence within him, but this could explain why his legs worked all of a sudden & how he seemed, straight away, to have such an intuitive grasp of "the island."

Like this^^

Just watched the last 2 eps in a row, missed last week's so had to d/l it and then watched the new one on TV. Loved action Sayid in the alt-timeline, still overall not pleased with alt-timeline.

Think it's probably quite likely Sun & Jin will end up on different sides but I don't think Jin has defected at this point.

maybe we can trust mikhail that she isn't one of the candidates after all

Dunno if Mikhail was high-ranking enough to even know about the candidates, if Richard Alpert didn't (someone said upthread, I can't remember whether he knew or not tbh)

Colonel Poo, Friday, 5 March 2010 23:40 (sixteen years ago)

Sun and Jin will end up on diff. sides to be sure, for the dramatic win - though they have no axe to grind, they're just following people around and trying not to get injured.

I'm hoping that all the 'list' talk from earlier seasons was Ben just aping Jacob's list-keeping and trying to make his orders seem 'official' .....

Brakhage, Friday, 5 March 2010 23:44 (sixteen years ago)

dead legs = dead enough for smokey to take some charge?

mikhail seems to have been brought to the island personally by jacob though, and might've had a more direct relationship with him, like ilana and the gang, who certainly seemed to know more about the candidates than alpert

sonderangerbot, Friday, 5 March 2010 23:48 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah true might explain his semi-invincibility

Colonel Poo, Friday, 5 March 2010 23:56 (sixteen years ago)

He then went on to detail specific reasons why they were not on the list, indicating that Kate was "flawed", Sayid was "frightened", Rousseau was "weak", and Locke was "angry".

But Locke & Sayid were candidates when Mikhail said that.

President Keyes, Friday, 5 March 2010 23:57 (sixteen years ago)

Good point

Colonel Poo, Friday, 5 March 2010 23:58 (sixteen years ago)

Oh the promos make it look like Ben's dying next episode. Misdirection?

Philip Nunez, Saturday, 6 March 2010 00:33 (sixteen years ago)

almost certainly

peter in montreal, Saturday, 6 March 2010 00:57 (sixteen years ago)

i thought they say... HE IS GOING TO DIE. we're not supposed to talk about promos btw.

shite new answers (cutty), Saturday, 6 March 2010 02:02 (sixteen years ago)

I would imagine this is Ilana finding out about Ben's not being exactly honest when asked if MIB killed Jacob ...

Brakhage, Saturday, 6 March 2010 02:03 (sixteen years ago)

Whoops, no promos, gotcha

Brakhage, Saturday, 6 March 2010 02:10 (sixteen years ago)

well cat's out of the bag, albeit 3 days after i was dying to talk about it

some dude, Saturday, 6 March 2010 02:11 (sixteen years ago)

Oh go on then. Is it island Ben or alterna-Ben?
If the latter - spinal tumour? Ballooning accident?

Not the real Village People, Saturday, 6 March 2010 02:13 (sixteen years ago)

the actual voiceover was a more ambiguous HE WILL FACE HIS DEMISE

dmr, Saturday, 6 March 2010 02:23 (sixteen years ago)

definitely misdirection imo

dmr, Saturday, 6 March 2010 02:24 (sixteen years ago)

demise

shite new answers (cutty), Saturday, 6 March 2010 02:25 (sixteen years ago)

well even if death rarely means death on this show, i hope it's not pointing the way toward Ben not being in the last dozen episodes much, he's already underused enough so far this season

some dude, Saturday, 6 March 2010 02:25 (sixteen years ago)

right now i'm guessing that the Others knew about the sideways universe from the beginning and could see it through mikhail's monitor. ben was traveling back and forth to it, observing locke by posing as a teacher (and getting his photo taken and given to miles).

also here's that metal gear solid thing i mentioned way above

abanana, Saturday, 6 March 2010 09:05 (sixteen years ago)

Anyone else reckon "the illness" was a plotline they changed their minds about ten times over before finally deciding to make it smoke monster related?

I see what this is (Local Garda), Saturday, 6 March 2010 09:54 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah the illness has never been of much interest. I thought that it was something Kelvin made up to stop Desmond leaving the hatch.

Matt DC, Saturday, 6 March 2010 12:50 (sixteen years ago)

I hope that Locke somehow accidentally kills Ben in the alternative timeline. Death by kettle-related misfortune or something.

Matt DC, Saturday, 6 March 2010 12:51 (sixteen years ago)

I forgot about that vaccine Desmond was shooting up. Funny that Claire, the only one of the 815ers to take the stuff, was the first to get the sickness.

President Keyes, Saturday, 6 March 2010 15:07 (sixteen years ago)

don't know if this is old but made me laugh so much:

archer's goon (tpp), Sunday, 7 March 2010 14:06 (sixteen years ago)

Now that we know that Jacob goes around making deals with people to save their kids, it casts a different light on the Aussie psychic (Malkin) who pushed Claire onto 815--his daughter "miraculously" came back from the dead after drowning.

President Keyes, Sunday, 7 March 2010 14:13 (sixteen years ago)

I hope that Locke somehow accidentally kills Ben in the alternative timeline.

feel like this has to happen

so been rewatching...if locke is paralysed in the sideways timeline, and his dad is invited to the wedding, then WHO PARALYSED HIM?

been sort of wondering if the sideways is some sort of smokey controlled world. also is smokey getting off the island basically some doomsday scenario, eg he starts causing havoc in the real world? have a feeling it might build to this (without him ever succeeding...but these are fairly wacked out theories.)

I see what this is (Local Garda), Tuesday, 9 March 2010 19:44 (sixteen years ago)

^^ i don't think that's wacked out. there has to be more to the sideways timeline than the bullshit we've been getting

the archetypal ghetto hustler (history mayne), Tuesday, 9 March 2010 20:20 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i agree, it'll all come together for the end. the way the characters are meeting in the sideways is not just a funny quirk, it'll all start to dovetail soon i'm sure.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Tuesday, 9 March 2010 20:44 (sixteen years ago)

it's all a collective dream/smokey hallucination

shite new answers (cutty), Tuesday, 9 March 2010 20:45 (sixteen years ago)

I'm thinking Locke's dad in the alterna-timeline isn't his biological one.

mh, Tuesday, 9 March 2010 20:48 (sixteen years ago)

there were pictures of them together though

sonderangerbot, Tuesday, 9 March 2010 20:49 (sixteen years ago)

Tonight, I have to miss a new episode for the first time since the show started. ;_;

How soon does ABC put the episodes up on their website? Will I be able to watch it tomorrow morning?
