If you're thinking of Miss Klugh, she was killed in S3 when Locke, Sayid and Kate found the house with the radar station with Mikhail and the chess computer. These are all the same Others group since the first season, since we saw Cindy and the kids that got kidnapped from the tail section.

One of a zillion Others wiped out at the end of Season 3 without a bit of notice. Shocked that Mac made it back!

this episode certainly kicked things off in the right direction. would like to know exactly what the black smoke showed kate to make her switch teams that fast

The black smoke didn't do anything to Kate, she followed on to see what was going on because that's what Kate does.

My guess would be that it doesn't have proper control of Jin and Sawyer either, and that you probably need to have died/nearly died for it to do its thing.

To be fair to Miles, he probably realises his limitations and is aiming at the right level. She went for Charlie after all.

Miles knows his type: he finds them crazy, and leaves them crazy or dead.

though jacob's plan was to bring in locke cause he was a "candidate". the problem was MiB at the same time figuring out he could use christian to trick locke into thinking he was some kind of great leader before jacob got a chance to... right?
