-dogen said smokey would kill every living thing on the island. why/how/to what end? also, i was under the impression before that the events on the island threatened the entire world. is smokey going to try and get to the mainland (like jurassic park) or is it back to just being an island problem?
-to what extent can smokey control kate/sayid etc? is he controlling them or have they just become evil and thus more likely to make the choices that benefit him?

The Jack/Kate dynamic is like bad Claremont writing, Sayid right now is like Mark Millar/Frank Miller Wolverine with a touch of the "every woman I love dies" thing.

Claire's acting as evil again was truly dire. It seems they couldn't make Claire evil without also making her EVEN STUPIDER. And Sayid's face for his version of evil is as if they'd asked him to play a sex offender.

I was wondering whether anything just flies now with Jacob and his magic island powers. First, only things on the island were really affected, people healed, time moved. Now we know he was making deals to bring some dude's kid back from the dead?

The ghost of Jacob appeared, and told Hurley that it is very, very important that he bring Sayid to the temple so that Sayid can die, be reborn, and then help kill all those people Jacob brought to the island.

He told Hurley that it was the only way to save Sayid - I think the real motivation was just to get the main crew to the temple. Of course, they all went to the temple just to discover that none of them actually wanted to be there (too bad for Kate!), which is pretty much in line with Jacob's other dickish manipulations.

the kid is a piano prodigy in another timeline so jacob did sorta come through for dogen?

just watching again, was dogen actually lying about the knife thing? i'm confused by the fact that fake locke does "talk to" sayid before he stabs him, even if he only says "hello sayid" or something. is that whole thing about the knife just as fake locke/sayid said it was, a setup to have flocke kill sayid?

I think Sayid waited too long, Dogen was very clear about not letting Flocke talk or it would be "too late". After that I think it was just Smokey lying/manipulating Sayid.

Sayid physically and spatially could not have killed Flocke before Flocke said hello, though.

Ben said that Widmore wanted to kill every living thing on the island too. Maybe for Smokey to leave the island he has to kill everything on it--and maybe Widmore and Smokey are pals.

if they wanted you to think it just was never going to work at all and Dogen was lying, they shoulda had him stab Locke and THEN Locke says "hello Sayid"

Jacob also came through for Juliet's sister with cancer, though indirectly.

Don't think the Locke talking thing was literal (like two words out of his mouth), and Dogen seemed apologetic about trying to get Sayid killed again through someone else, so I don't think Locke was lying about that. I don't totally understand why Dogen wouldn't just kill Sayid himself, though.

The baseball reminded him of the flashback episode he might have gotten if he'd been introduced three seasons ago.

This was highly entertaining but basically bollocks, although I really have no idea where they're going with this at all now.

But yeah, all out war will make things fun. Pretty sure Smokey isn't getting Kate any time soon, although he might get Jack. No way in hell is he getting Hurley. Hurley will save them all.

Getting impatient for the Richard and Ilana episodes now though.

guessing that this missing Jin business is setting up for a Jin/Sun on opposite teams ish.

esp since he's a mean bad gangster, etc. guess, tho, is that if they DO set up the opposition and fail to resolve it (ie - one of them ends up being on the losing/bad team), it'll be Sun who's revealed to bo the truly nasty one (cf what she did with her time away).

well ok, this was the best ep so far. glad they killed off the new characters. hope the alt.timeline story adds up to something.

Wondering about this too ... evidently the island was in a stalemate for a long time; Jacob living kept MIB in check, Dogen kept MIB out of the Temple. With them out of the way, MIB has free reign over the island. But he still can't leave it, and he evidently needs other people to leave. Otherwise he could indeed kill every living person on the island and thus free himself. And raising an army to oppose Jacob's army seems pointless since MIB could defeat any group that isn't protected in some magical way.

The mortal fear of everyone who knows of MIB is that he will kill anyone who opposes him - but what does it mean to join him? What's the point of your being in the group to MIB, beyond your own survival?

What if Smokey's presence is the only thing keeping the island afloat, and that's what they mean when they say everyone is going to die? Was joking when I started typing this, but it is Lost..

i thought cindy was pretty cold when she explained to lennon why she and that group of people had to leave, all turning her back on the temple without a second thought. though it does make a little sense, given that her character seems to live through everything...

Yeah, I'd be interested to know why Cindy was so "with" the Others throughout. I guess she had the kids to look after, but I'd like to know what stories the Others had told her.

i still don't really get who these Others are. what happened to that Other who was an old woman from like, season 2? Miss whatsit?

like, are these Others Batmanuel's others, or some other others? They aren't dharma others.

If you're thinking of Miss Klugh, she was killed in S3 when Locke, Sayid and Kate found the house with the radar station with Mikhail and the chess computer. These are all the same Others group since the first season, since we saw Cindy and the kids that got kidnapped from the tail section.

Where does the Sheriff fit in?

One of a zillion Others wiped out at the end of Season 3 without a bit of notice. Shocked that Mac made it back!

this episode certainly kicked things off in the right direction. would like to know exactly what the black smoke showed kate to make her switch teams that fast

The black smoke didn't do anything to Kate, she followed on to see what was going on because that's what Kate does.

My guess would be that it doesn't have proper control of Jin and Sawyer either, and that you probably need to have died/nearly died for it to do its thing.

To be fair to Miles, he probably realises his limitations and is aiming at the right level. She went for Charlie after all.
