he was always Wolverine!
SRSLY. And Sawyer was always Gambit, Jack was always Scott Summers, Kate was always Jean Grey and John Locke was always a bald dude in a wheelchair who just knew stuff.
Shannon obv. Silver Fox btw.

wait, wasn't sawyer wolverine? sawyer is way more wolverine.

Maybe '70s Wolvie but if we're talking Ninja assassin, looking-for-redemption, love interests-always-tragically-killed Wolvie it's leaning towards Sayid.

Kearny vs. Wolverinehttp://www.fancast.com/blogs/wp-content/post_images/blob-durand-wolverine.jpg
I think that baseball story he told was another misdirection. It's not when Dogen dies that the smokey protection is lifted but when the baseball bobs out of his grasp.
Magic baseball.

Gambit is a much better match for Sawyer than Wolverine aside from the Logan/Scott/Jean love triangle

I am surprised by the lack of enthusiasm for this episode, I thought it was really fucking good. Just v exciting and of course the plot was moved forward, this ep clearly set the tone for the rest of the series, a war is about to happen.
I thought they really introduced the idea of Smokey being utterly evil quite well, just the whole tone of the episode seemed to lurch into something more sinister than usual. There's something really unsettling about seeing Sayid sort of in thrall to Smokey in the jungle that time. Sure it's all a bit overblown (hi dere catch a falling star) but after 5 seasons I feel I bought into this show ages ago.
Anyone else think Smokey is maent to be more powerful here? There were some louder sounding roars than usual.
Also I can't help but feel Jack is going to replace Jacob in the next few eps.
But yeah overall thought this episode was great.

also he reverted to his "character" (i.e. using violence to solve his problems), maybe this is why he is evil and failed the test?

I like the idea of the sideflashes as counterfactual morality tests! Like, "if life had really given you the opportunity to be a good and fulfilled person, would you have taken it?"

i loved this ep and have high hopes for the rest of the season
in order to really get into this 'epic war' storyline it'd be nice to know a bit more aboutthe two sides fighting each other + what they are fighting about:
in particular would love to know:- who/what is jacob and what does it actually mean for jack to replace jacob?- who/what is smokey and how does he plan to get off the island- how can "jacob's team" possibly compete with smokey + his goons?
obvs we don't need all these answers right now but i think they need to give us a bit more in the next ep or so

more questions
-dogen said smokey would kill every living thing on the island. why/how/to what end? also, i was under the impression before that the events on the island threatened the entire world. is smokey going to try and get to the mainland (like jurassic park) or is it back to just being an island problem?-to what extent can smokey control kate/sayid etc? is he controlling them or have they just become evil and thus more likely to make the choices that benefit him?

― archer's goon (tpp), Wednesday, 3 March 2010 21:09 (sixteen years ago)
The Stand is about a plague that kills 99.44% of humanity. The Survivors is a UK miniseries about a plague that kills 99.44% of humanity.Survivor is a game show set on an island.Lost is set on an island.
The Stand = Lost.

Claire's acting as evil again was truly dire. It seems they couldn't make Claire evil without also making her EVEN STUPIDER. And Sayid's face for his version of evil is as if they'd asked him to play a sex offender.

― Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Wednesday, 3 March 2010 22:09 (sixteen years ago)
I was wondering whether anything just flies now with Jacob and his magic island powers. First, only things on the island were really affected, people healed, time moved. Now we know he was making deals to bring some dude's kid back from the dead?
― mh, Wednesday, 3 March 2010 22:11 (sixteen years ago)
The ghost of Jacob appeared, and told Hurley that it is very, very important that he bring Sayid to the temple so that Sayid can die, be reborn, and then help kill all those people Jacob brought to the island.
― Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Wednesday, 3 March 2010 22:28 (sixteen years ago)
He told Hurley that it was the only way to save Sayid - I think the real motivation was just to get the main crew to the temple. Of course, they all went to the temple just to discover that none of them actually wanted to be there (too bad for Kate!), which is pretty much in line with Jacob's other dickish manipulations.
― Nhex, Wednesday, 3 March 2010 22:31 (sixteen years ago)
he was making deals to bring some dude's kid back from the dead?
the kid is a piano prodigy in another timeline so jacob did sorta come through for dogen?
― rahni, Wednesday, 3 March 2010 22:33 (sixteen years ago)
just watching again, was dogen actually lying about the knife thing? i'm confused by the fact that fake locke does "talk to" sayid before he stabs him, even if he only says "hello sayid" or something. is that whole thing about the knife just as fake locke/sayid said it was, a setup to have flocke kill sayid?
― I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 3 March 2010 22:34 (sixteen years ago)
I think Sayid waited too long, Dogen was very clear about not letting Flocke talk or it would be "too late". After that I think it was just Smokey lying/manipulating Sayid.
― sleeve, Wednesday, 3 March 2010 22:37 (sixteen years ago)
Sayid physically and spatially could not have killed Flocke before Flocke said hello, though.
― Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Wednesday, 3 March 2010 22:37 (sixteen years ago)
-dogen said smokey would kill every living thing on the island. why/how/to what end?
Ben said that Widmore wanted to kill every living thing on the island too. Maybe for Smokey to leave the island he has to kill everything on it--and maybe Widmore and Smokey are pals.
― President Keyes, Wednesday, 3 March 2010 22:38 (sixteen years ago)
if they wanted you to think it just was never going to work at all and Dogen was lying, they shoulda had him stab Locke and THEN Locke says "hello Sayid"
which also would have been more lol

― dmr, Wednesday, 3 March 2010 22:39 (sixteen years ago)
But Widmore wants to go back to the island.
Also, why would fate bring Keamy to Los Angeles so he could get killed in a restaurant.
― Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Wednesday, 3 March 2010 22:40 (sixteen years ago)
Remember that after Jacob told Hurley this they wasted a bunch of time trying to rescue Juliet before actually taking Sayid to the temple.
― President Keyes, Wednesday, 3 March 2010 22:40 (sixteen years ago)
I wonder where Widmore's at in alternaLost, maybe on the bottom of the ocean?
― mh, Wednesday, 3 March 2010 22:41 (sixteen years ago)
Jacob also came through for Juliet's sister with cancer, though indirectly.
Don't think the Locke talking thing was literal (like two words out of his mouth), and Dogen seemed apologetic about trying to get Sayid killed again through someone else, so I don't think Locke was lying about that. I don't totally understand why Dogen wouldn't just kill Sayid himself, though.
― Nhex, Wednesday, 3 March 2010 22:41 (sixteen years ago)
maybe he can't cuz Sayid is a candidate

This was highly entertaining but basically bollocks, although I really have no idea where they're going with this at all now.
But yeah, all out war will make things fun. Pretty sure Smokey isn't getting Kate any time soon, although he might get Jack. No way in hell is he getting Hurley. Hurley will save them all.
Getting impatient for the Richard and Ilana episodes now though.

guessing that this missing Jin business is setting up for a Jin/Sun on opposite teams ish.
esp since he's a mean bad gangster, etc. guess, tho, is that if they DO set up the opposition and fail to resolve it (ie - one of them ends up being on the losing/bad team), it'll be Sun who's revealed to bo the truly nasty one (cf what she did with her time away).
like, while they were gone:
Kate---acted right, raised a kidJack---went crazy??? was an alcoholic???Sayid---killed all of this dudesHurley---went crazy??? talked to dead people??? still decent, tho.Sun---GANGSTAAaron---pooped his pants
