Yeah, the whole appeal of TAESGJ is the subtleties, facial twitches/tics, pauses, etc.

about half the material from the first ep was in the live show and boy do they suck live.

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 2 March 2010 18:45 (sixteen years ago)

*killfiled, no regrets*

^^potentially not true at all, sry^^ (Z S), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 19:15 (sixteen years ago)

Is there actually a killfile or just SB's?

Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 19:17 (sixteen years ago)

Yes, but killfile is for stupids who like to be confused by responses to posts that they can no longer see. I do not understand its existence, but by god I'll die to defend its right to exist.

SNEEZED GOING DOWN STEPS, PAIN WHEN PUTTING SOCKS ON (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 19:25 (sixteen years ago)

So this is S5, then? I still havent seen 4 - it seems not to be out on DVD yet. Want to see it mainly for the Tommy Wiseau bits! Which reminds me, is there a thread about The Room cos I can't find one and I saw it last weekend and woah nelly.

ABBAcab (Trayce), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 20:03 (sixteen years ago)

am0n, Tuesday, 2 March 2010 20:09 (sixteen years ago)

live they're openly mocking the audience and the audience is like "yeah, wouldn't it be funny if we found that funny" and everyone is like eight levels removed from what's actually happening which is a pair of guys chanting diarrhea while wearing body suits with huge flopping testicles which isn't really funny at all?

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 2 March 2010 20:26 (sixteen years ago)

Want to see it mainly for the Tommy Wiseau bits!

most (all?) of those bits are on the adult swim website, at least four of them - there may be more in the actual episode (haven't seen it).

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 18 March 2010 12:53 (sixteen years ago)

just watched the last ep - so the bunk is a fan? great job!!

jerk orbison (another al3x), Thursday, 18 March 2010 19:43 (sixteen years ago)

tried so hard to like these guys, never got into it, nail in the coffin was when i met them (in a professional capacity) and they were jerks.

mikebee (BATTAGS), Friday, 19 March 2010 00:53 (sixteen years ago)

OMG plz tell story!! I've always wondered what these guys were like IRL

gabourey voltaire (Stevie D), Friday, 19 March 2010 00:58 (sixteen years ago)

so they peed on u (figuratively)

wilter, Friday, 19 March 2010 01:12 (sixteen years ago)

Just to balance that out - and if we're work name-droppin' - I've met them in a work-related capacity and I thought they were really nice! (But I'm a LONGtime fan).

Shannon Whirry and the Bad Brains, Friday, 19 March 2010 02:52 (sixteen years ago)

my friend ran into David Liebe Hart on the bus once... they talked for awhile and David ended up giving him his phone number. actually two phone numbers for some reason.

hobbes, Friday, 19 March 2010 04:21 (sixteen years ago)

"trying" to get comedy is a fruitless task, ime... y'either laugh or you don't.

hobbes, Friday, 19 March 2010 04:22 (sixteen years ago)

the other night i bizarrely asked my girlfriend "what do you find interesting about stand up comedy?"

the answer: "it's funny"

X| not exactly sure what the hell i thought i was asking

ABBAcab (Trayce), Friday, 19 March 2010 05:20 (sixteen years ago)

I've heard that Tim is nice but Eric is kind of a dick.

they talked for awhile and David ended up giving him his phone number. actually two phone numbers for some reason.

Maybe the other one is the mannequin's number!

no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Friday, 19 March 2010 09:00 (sixteen years ago)

this season thus far is markedly unfunny to me for some reason.

forksclovetofu, Friday, 19 March 2010 14:39 (sixteen years ago)

that's the joke

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 19 March 2010 14:47 (sixteen years ago)

Not even the iJammer commercial? That was an all-time classic clip. Just amazing. Although I'll agree that the last episode was mostly just creepy. But I enjoyed that.

Apparently, DLH just gives out his phone number to everyone, or so it seems in the T&E thread on the aspecialthing board.

SNEEZED GOING DOWN STEPS, PAIN WHEN PUTTING SOCKS ON (Deric W. Haircare), Friday, 19 March 2010 16:07 (sixteen years ago)

"trying" as in watching other episodes to see if i was just not into a particular one, just like you can "try" to get into an album by listening multiple times - is that so difficult to understand? I chuckled during some Zach Galifinakis-featuring sketch but the three episodes I watched were profoundly MEH.

I won't get too detailed but what was so appalling to me was their brushing off of fans who had waited many hours to see them, made handmade gifts, stayed way late etc. their attitude was very "whatever, we've got better things to do" - not busy and distracted but blase and bored, and they accepted gifts that were purposely left behind, didn't bother chatting with any of these people. at the signing acted like they'd rather be anywhere else. then did an interview with them in which they didn't play ball at all, meaning yes/no answers to questions that could have easily led to funny anecdotes/explanations. after three or four of these i was like 'okay, thanks for coming' and closed the interview after five minutes. they practically ran out the door.

mikebee (BATTAGS), Friday, 19 March 2010 23:44 (sixteen years ago)

yo sorry, the quotes around "trying" in my post prob made it sound more dickish than intended. for me, it's rare for comedy to be unfunny without being irritating and unpleasant. T&E especially, i think, lie on that funny/irritating binary.

otoh, there's guys like louis ck, who i found just kinda boring but not groan inducing or anything. was much more inclined to check him out again after a friend's recommendation. so yeah it goes both ways.

and then there's strangers with candy, which i actually found totally obnoxious and nauseating at first, until it grew on me and started to make me lol. so yeah it's not as simple as "lol at first sight", i guess.

this season has moved into unwatchable and not funny

forksclovetofu, Saturday, 10 April 2010 19:52 (sixteen years ago)

max, Friday, 7 May 2010 13:07 (sixteen years ago)

If things continue this way, 3 episodes from now they'll have Brad Pitt or someone on the show.

Evan, Friday, 7 May 2010 13:16 (sixteen years ago)

Sadly, things won't continue in *any* way - that Rudd clip is from the series finale from last Sunday. The show's done for good!* (That said, the "Father and Son" short film from HBO has me very excited at what these guys could do with something not as ridiculously paced - it's their best work, I think).

(* The Steve Brule spin-off show starts very soon, though)...

Becky Facelift, Friday, 7 May 2010 13:26 (sixteen years ago)

Oh really they're done for good huh? I'm OK with that, I know Tim and Eric aren't finished doing projects so I'll be looking forward to what they do next (besides the Brule show).

Tim Wareheim's little known dark side: HEALTH - We Are Water

I guess that would be Eric Wareheim's little known dark side.

lol @ hat wobble

am0n, Friday, 7 May 2010 14:48 (sixteen years ago)

kinda happy it's over - this season was easily the worst. no new ideas. i thought that father + son thing was pretty weak also. for me the hectic pace and psychedelic visuals are key to their style.

rat fapper (another al3x), Friday, 7 May 2010 14:50 (sixteen years ago)

this is still my favorite bit from this show
