When Samantha Mathis showed Christian Slater her boobs in PUTV, it was a formative experience for me: I realized that I could lurk around all bookish, sullen & edgy & yet some supercool superhot alternachick might take notice & one day show her boobs to ME. Looking back, this is pretty squarely in keeping w/ the theory of the Manic Pixie Dream Girl.

Eventually I learned that, while appearing bookish, sullen & edgy certainly did not hurt in my pursuit of alternaboobs, I also had to be at least slightly outgoing b/c in most cases those boobs were not going to come to me if I just sat in the corner & sulked.

I was talking on the phone the other day to my friend about bad movies, and I mentioned seeing chunks of Deuces Wild on tv recently. That led to a discussion about Fairuza Balk and whatever happened to her career. He mentioned that she was in the Herzog Bad Lieutenant movie and after I enquired about how she looked in said film, he asked, "You would fuck her, wouldn't you?"

I think so, although there's always a few cheap-ish copies on amazon/ebay. I got a German import(?) for a fiver a couple of years ago. And there's the Criterion issue from the States of course.

(looking at my copy now I notice it's Dutch not German - de laatste dagen van de disco - het leven begint voorbij het fluwelen koord...

I've never seen the film, but that monologue was GREAT.

oh - maybe it was the criterion version i thought was OOP. loved this movie when i saw it at the cinema...

The monologue is a goof, but Matt Keeslar looks so damn good.
