so every other episode's going to suck, is that it?
― Gorgeous Ladies Of Curling (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 12:20 (sixteen years ago)
seems like they're trying to make us hate Jacob more. smug useless prick.

is Hurley gonna break the fourth wall?
― mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 12:23 (sixteen years ago)
this was a shitty episode but it was the kind of shitty lost episode im used, so it was still better than the awful kate episode
― max, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 12:25 (sixteen years ago)
yeah at least Jack and Kate-centric eps are out of the way for a while now
― mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 12:34 (sixteen years ago)
Me, to television: JACK, YOU'RE A FUCKING DICKHurley, to Jacob: Why is Jack such a dick?Jacob, to Hurley: Because he's a dick. You should realise that.Me, to television: WHY HAS IT TAKEN 6 SEASONS FOR SOMEONE TO SAY THIS
― Diamanti Gallas (aldo), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 13:08 (sixteen years ago)
guys you are so selfish. from jack's point of view this jacob character had been manipulating him his whole life. smashing the cool lighthouse mirror was still a douchebag move though.
― shite new answers (cutty), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 13:13 (sixteen years ago)
got a small lol from me when jack walked into his son's audition there was a sign saying 'welcome all candidates'
ok so probably the only interesting thing in this ep was in the first few minutes with jack's appendix scar! what do people make of that?! is that just the writers fucking with us or is it tied in with the course-correction stuff? the past has changed to account for things that happened on the island??
― david cam'ron (tpp), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 13:17 (sixteen years ago)
'sometimes u just need a walking through the jungle episode'
― david cam'ron (tpp), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 13:18 (sixteen years ago)
oh god dogen being in jack's alt line. i assumed he was going to drop some bomb about none of this being real but no just PARENTING ADVICE. his moment with hurley was quite funny tho i guess.
― mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 13:24 (sixteen years ago)
Faraday has to have taught Jears Jr all that Chopin.
I think Jack's confusion about the scar echoed the cut on his neck he didn't realize- their involvement in future developments on-island leading to happy life reset.
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 13:30 (sixteen years ago)
part of me really hopes that the season continues with the characters resolving their boring daddy issues in the alt-timeline so that come the last episode everyone is happy and at peace with themselves. then in the last episode on-island jack will do something dumb and the alt-timeline will collapse back to the island timeline and everyone will be trapped on the island in eternal despair :D

Seeing daddy Dogen in the alt-line makes me think he's not an eternal Richard-type but a dude brought to the island post-1977. Funny that he seems to know what a Candidate is, while Richard doesn't. Maybe it was in that note Jacob sent in the huge Ankh.
Any guesses as to who's coming to the island? Desmond? Newbie? Or was Jacob lying?
― President Keyes, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 13:57 (sixteen years ago)
I think/hope Jacob was lying. Last thing the show needs now is a new set of mysterious characters searching for the island.
― david cam'ron (tpp), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 14:04 (sixteen years ago)
with the terrible cgi, crappy sets + constant acknowledgement that the characters on-island have no clear motivations for doing anything it's like they've given up with the on-island stuff being 'realistic' at all. either the writers have just given up or they are confident enough that the payoff from the candidates/alt-timeline stuff is going to be so great that the audience will just not care.
― david cam'ron (tpp), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 14:11 (sixteen years ago)
Also Jack's mom looked like Kate 40 years on + 3 facelifts.
I almost cry when I think about how hott she was in Hill St. Blues.
― blow it out your bad-taste hole (WmC), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 14:23 (sixteen years ago)
I figure Desmond is going to have something to do with the timelines coming together or whatever they're going to do since he's "special" and the rules don't apply to him or whatever Faraday was trying to explain at some point last season. So I'm hoping it's him.
― peter in montreal, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 14:38 (sixteen years ago)
desmond's episode will probably be him back on 815, the only one realizing he is in an alternate timeline
― shite new answers (cutty), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 14:42 (sixteen years ago)
Loving Lostpedia:
Hurley and Jack's journey to the lighthouse may be an allusion to Virginia Woolf's 1927 book To the Lighthouse. Large parts of Woolf's novel investigate the means of perception, attempting to understand people in the act of looking. The previous episode alluded to another Woolf title, Jacob's Room.
Also, Jack's son was playing the same Chopin piece that we saw young Faraday playing.
― President Keyes, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 15:52 (sixteen years ago)
This must mean that Jack is Daniel Faraday's real father
― peter in montreal, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 15:54 (sixteen years ago)
I see this episode generated a lot of discussion.
― President Keyes, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 17:52 (sixteen years ago)
Why is Jacob crossing off names in two different locations? Inefficient.
― Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 17:53 (sixteen years ago)
I loved the moment when Jin was like, "Uhhhhhh.... you know what? I was lying before! LOL"
― Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 17:55 (sixteen years ago)
what exactly was that in the crib? looked like some kind of animal skeleton or something? I wasn't really that much attention and may be way off. Hopefully it's not Vincent.
― peter in montreal, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 17:59 (sixteen years ago)
Noticed that Locke's name was already crossed off on the wheel, but not in the cave (until MIB did it.)
― President Keyes, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 18:07 (sixteen years ago)
Also the randomness of the writing on the cave walls. With that many names how can you remember easily where they all are. Just get a pen and pad ffs.
"Uhhhhhh.... you know what? I was lying before! LOL"
yeah this was cool. i'm guessing Claire will be saved but perhaps not Sayid. feel like Sayid should've just died really. sorry Sayid.

I thought it was gonna be one of Ben's papier mache dolls in Claire's crib but no, it was spooky animal skull shit. This season really feels like ppl just wandering around doing stuff when someone tells them to, maybe seeing a dead guy, maybe not. I'm not getting any sense of DREAD or DANGER like in previous seasons (e.g. from Keamy, Ben, freighters, Others, Juliet). I guess the samurai guy could go torture some more people but I'm not feeling it.
― Not the real Village People, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 18:40 (sixteen years ago)
Perhaps one sweet day Jacob will explain how the hell Hurley can be a candidate for a role that probably requires you to order people to do bad stuff to keep an island protected. Whether you've killed anyone before (off or on the island, which Claire now has) doesn't seem to matter - was gonna say I don't think Hurley has blood on his hands here but then I remembered he ran over an Other with the Dharma van...so that just leaves Rose, Bernard and Waaaalt i think.
― mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 18:46 (sixteen years ago)
I caught last few minutes of the replay of the Substitute with the dumb pop-ups. The last one was "Sawyer is Locke's first recruit." Really? I figured their alliance would last about ten minutes.
― President Keyes, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 18:48 (sixteen years ago)
Also, it seems like Claire is his first recruit.
Also, Jacob's job involves traveling around the world and speaking perfect Korean when he has to. I don't see any of the candidates as being particularly adaptable.
― Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 18:50 (sixteen years ago)
"Austen" was number 51 on the wheel thing, and not crossed out.
Jacob says to turn the wheel to 108. "Wallace" is crossed out at 108 (and of course 108=4+8+15+23+42), but we don't know who "Wallace" is yet. Maybe the man in black before he died?
Linus is crossed out at 117.
― Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 19:15 (sixteen years ago)
Of course if you add 51 to 108, you get 159.

Adam & Eve are just the original bodies of Jacob and the other dude aren't they?
Jack is a massive dick but I laughed at how predictable him smashing everything up was. I actually quite like axe murderer Claire though.
I quite enjoyed this, in a 'this is dumb shit but at least it's not the Kate episode' way. At least we got lots of Hurley.
Thought the most significant thing in the Alt-Timeline was Jack seemingly not being able to remember anything that had happened in his past - appendix scar, kid playing piano, etc. Maybe that second one was just Jack being a self-involved dick though.
