Always thought the original Jin and Sun backstory was one of the best, and they've kind of wasted it as a plot point, especially her evil megalomaniac dad. I hope that comes back into play rather than the endless yearning and confused faces they seem confined to these days. That said I don't see the baby being a big deal, the Island and the scriptwriters don't seem remotely interested in it.

Hah ha ha, yeah, so true - Sun's possibly the most wasted character on the show

It's sad because it seemed like around S4 we'd see a changed, evolved or more evil Sun during the Oceanic 6 storyline, but not much has really come of it. A really wasted opportunity here.

If I was the actress I'd be kind of embarrassed to be there at this point ... 'have you seen my husband? oh, he's dead in the past? ok. what, you can take me to him? ok. whatever you say, i have no initiative even though my backstory is replete with references to me standing up for myself'

just read lostpwdia and while it doesn't state it explicitly, it looks like the time jack and everyone spent in 1977 was no more than three days

I agree that Sun exemplifies some wasted potential but y'all are forgetting her awesome oar-whacking scene where she takes Ben out followed by the "I lied" shrug.

I'd have a little more respect for her if she beat some answers out of Richard with an oar too

It would be really great if the writers start using Sun as a proxy for the viewer by having her run around the island and use oars to beat answers out of people. Especially if she beats Jack into unconsciousness in the process.

its amazing how every character on lost at some point in their life perfected the technique of knocking someone out with one blow. charlie knocks desmond out cooold with an oar at the end of S3. i think kate knocks someone out with a wooden instrument at least once a season

Yeah last time I tried to knock someone out with an oar I had to hit them five or six times. It was so embarassing.

haha! rewatching the end of S2 at the moment its a real peak of the show imo. you still have the goofy light-hearted episodes while at the same time the hatch stuff is genuinely mysterious and the introduction of ben is probably the best thing that ever happened to the show. S6 needs more ben!

I'm pretty curious about how Ben's character is going to progress this season actually... even as a master manipulator he still inherently believed in Jacob and "the island" almost as much as Locke. Now that he's been completely schooled in that game (compared to his tit-for-tat with Widmore) and his seemingly genuine remorse for the deaths of Alex and Locke I wonder how they're going to resolve his character, since he's too important now to get unceremoniously killed off.

This seems to be the first time in the whole series where Ben doesn't have any kind of agenda at all. He seems kind of rudderless.

He might still have some bad shit planned for Sayid I suppose.

rudderless ben frustrates me, he's the show's biggest 'waste of a character' imo. though when flocke sent ben out to retrieve richard from the beach, ben still had the old compulsion to lie about everything, so maybe they'll salvage him yet.

Yeah at this point he's completely expendable. Though if the show's about 'redemption' I'd imagine he'd redeem himself by saving somebody before he gets reduced to paste

I like what they're doing to Ben right now, personally. He's just a few hours out from finding out that he's been the biggest tool in Smokey's toolbelt for years -- I figure he's going to get his bearings and go terminator in a couple of episodes, and it's going to be so much more effective after the whiny 9th-grader "you...used me" line to Flocke.
