full disclosure: yes, this is what happened. you can put prissy mc-i-don't-want-my-name-on-ilx's irl name in yr display name, and it doesn't get changed into [nabisco] [.]. however, when you c+p it, it gets converted. there. not a great belly laugh, sure, buuuuuuut you know, i've seen worse posted here.
