tons of apartments available on my street and surrounding areas, ie, the streets between Clark and Broadway and Lawrence and Berwyn. Argyle is full of for rent signs. Actually, the place next door to me is available. 3rd floor walk-up, 1 bedroom, huge back porch, pretty basic, 625/month, parking avail. for $65 a month (!)

unclejessjess (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:22 (twenty years ago)

He's going the distance.
He's going for speed.
She's all alone
In her time of need.
Because he's racing and pacing and plotting the course,
He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse,
He's going the distance.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:23 (twenty years ago)

We used Clybourne when we moved here. Nice guy took us around to a bunch of slightly over-priced WP and UkV apartments. We ended up taking one we found on our own.

gbx (skowly), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:23 (twenty years ago)

That's Cake for ya, right there.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:24 (twenty years ago)

All right, off to the olive grove.

unclejessjess (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:24 (twenty years ago)

Cake Like -- are they one of those bands from the vaunted mid-90s Maritime Canada scene (cf. Sloan, Jale, Eric's Trip)?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:24 (twenty years ago)

I wonder if more songs have been written about pie than cake.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:25 (twenty years ago)

My cake lyrics:

You can make it our of flour, you can make it out of cheese
You can top it off with frosting, that's always sure to please
It's CAKE!
(yeah yeah yeah)
Yeah CAKE!
(yeah yeah yeah)

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:25 (twenty years ago)

Has anyone ever dealt with N0rth Clyb0urn Realty? They're all up on Craigslist's jock right now.

yes, when me and my ex were moving two years ago we went to them. the dude who showed us a couple of places was really cool and really hated the woman he worked for. didn't wind up taking one of their properties.

sarah, next time you guys are out and about i'll most definitely introduce you to whomever. if you want i'll also drop the "you guys should totally play a show together!" line like it was a spontaneous thought then excuse myself to go to the bar.

regardless of introductions you should really be at that show at the bottle on the 31st just because it's gonna be a great fucking time.

and hey eazy, did you see the hot machines are playing that pitchfork fest thing? wtf?

otto midnight (otto midnight), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:25 (twenty years ago)

Hmmm, they don't appear to be Canadian. Who am I thinking of?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:26 (twenty years ago)

cake like money or cake like food or cake like something easy? what do you mean?

otto midnight (otto midnight), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:26 (twenty years ago)

You can fill it up with fruit, but don't confuse it with pie
If you keep it in the freezer, it might get really dry
It's CAKE!
(ooh ooh ooh)
Delicious CAKE!
(ooh ooh ooh)

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:26 (twenty years ago)

No, as far as I know they were kind of a fluke/joke thing that got discovered and became known/liked in arty circles. Something something John Zorn? Anyway, I remembered them because I was really into the State at the time, and Kerri Kenney was on the State. And Ren0 911, I think.

xpost x 5

Steely Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:27 (twenty years ago)

You can rhyme "blow out the candles" with "my life is in shambles". Although I just looked it up and apparently "shambles" means "abattoir" or "slaughterhouse". Who knew?

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:28 (twenty years ago)

• Mission of Burma
• Ted Leo/Pharmacists
• Mountain Goats
• The National
• Jens Lekman
• Hot Machines

Boy, PFM better line up some acts I'm actually excited about seeing...

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:28 (twenty years ago)

I think I'm living next to a woman named L0gan Slaught3r. How hardcore is that?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:28 (twenty years ago)

They scarf it at Four Seasons
They munch it at the Drake
You never need good reasons
For serving up some cake

CAKE!
CAAAAAAAKE!!!
(cake cake)
CAAAAAAAKE!!!

unclejessjess (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:29 (twenty years ago)

xpost - Yeah, that lineup doesn't interest me much either.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:29 (twenty years ago)

I am going to write a song about strigils now.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:29 (twenty years ago)

You can give it your you mother on her day or birth
You can have it all the time, it always brings the mirth
It's CAKE!
(yeah yeah yeah)
Fuckin' CAKE!
(aw hell yeah)

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:29 (twenty years ago)

(You need some swear words in there, so you know it rocks.)

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:31 (twenty years ago)

Really, now I'm going to the Jim.

unclejessjess (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:31 (twenty years ago)

Cake all up in your motherfuckin grill
Your stomach it'll fill
Sugar, eggs, flour and milk
Too much icing makes you ill

BOYEEEEE

xpost: added swear

Steely Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:32 (twenty years ago)

Jesse, did you just shower BEFORE going to the gym?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:32 (twenty years ago)

After much thought and Internet research, I have determined that the source of my confusion is that Jale had an album called Dream Cake.

The nineties were a pretty fertile time for cake-oriented bands: Cake, Cake Like, The Sea and Cake, Orange Cake Mix.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:33 (twenty years ago)

You know, those were different times.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:34 (twenty years ago)

I'll be angelfood cake,
Light and airy and fluffy and sweet,
Yes, I'll be angelfood cake,
If you'll be the one who eats me.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:34 (twenty years ago)

All the poets, they studies rules of Cake!

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:34 (twenty years ago)

I don't really approve of Jesse going to the Jim.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:35 (twenty years ago)

Jim's no good for him.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:35 (twenty years ago)

Jim will only hurt him.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:36 (twenty years ago)

Yes, Jordan, I did shower before the gym. I often do that. I don't know why, but I guess 2 reasons: a shower really is a motivator for me. If I leave the house without a shower I don't feel like I'm really doing things for real. 2nd reason, because I don't like carrying crap to the gym for showering, so I take the real shower here and then rinse off there. If I don't do it there then I won't do it at all.

Also, I changed my mind. I'm going to the gym at 5.15 when the cruel abs teacher will be doing her class.

unclejessjess (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:36 (twenty years ago)

I'm talkin' bout some good yellow cake with chocolate frosting.

Otto, that's cool. I'll probably come to the 31st show.
I saw HM were playing the festival because I'm a myspace music troll.

Sarah Madkitten McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:37 (twenty years ago)

Does anyone want to go to see Belle & Sebastian with me FOR FREE on Friday night?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:37 (twenty years ago)

God, no.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:38 (twenty years ago)

She teaches "cruel abs"? Those sound... awesome.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:38 (twenty years ago)

xpost from a little while ago: I was all set to add "Mother fucking CAAAAKE!" As a lyric, but I forgot. I don't think I need to mention that this song about cakes in hotels is to be sung in a black metal cookie monster voice.

unclejessjess (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:38 (twenty years ago)

I do, John! I do!

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:39 (twenty years ago)

I saw HM were playing the festival because I'm a myspace music troll.

i saw matt last night and meant to give him shit about it but he was giving me free beers so i held my tongue.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:39 (twenty years ago)

I wasn't talking to you, Chris.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:39 (twenty years ago)

to be sung in a black metal cookie monster voice

I don't think the FFs have a quadruple bass, though. That will hinder the blackness of the whole affair.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:40 (twenty years ago)

I think I'm going to wander away from the computer, find some coffee, and then feen for the computer, which someone else will have taken while I was gone. Damn you, whoever will sit here next!

xpost I wasn't talking to you neither, Jaoyhmnc the Houyhnhnm!

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:40 (twenty years ago)

The ab lady is a refugee from New Orleans and she works us like fucking slaves on a Louisiana plantation run by the Marquis de Sade. After that I go to her "Tread Train" class. Now if you think that Spin is tough, try this shit. I nearly throw up each time and my heart rate goes to 175 and I hate myself and her and all of you while I'm doing it.

unclejessjess (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:40 (twenty years ago)

Cruella De Abs

Steely Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:41 (twenty years ago)

You can rhyme "blow out the candles" with "my life is in shambles". Although I just looked it up and apparently "shambles" means "abattoir" or "slaughterhouse".

Suddenly "Babyshambles" seems a lot more......core.

gbx (skowly), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:42 (twenty years ago)

Does anyone want to go to see Belle & Sebastian with me FOR FREE on Friday night?
OMG I totally want to!! But I can't. I have student debates to moderate the next morning. Remember 6:45am?

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:42 (twenty years ago)

rather, if you think Spin is EASY, try this class. Or if you think spin is hard, then do not try this class. Or if you have a history of heart conditions, CFS or leg amputation consult a physician before engaging in Tread Train. Pregnant women and women of child bearing age should not handle Tread Train due to risks of specific birth defects.

unclejessjess (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:44 (twenty years ago)

I'm excited to see most of the 6 bands announced. I also just like hanging out outside for a couple of days in the summer. Yeah, john posted this up there. Anyone else going?
