i was also kinda amazed they're still throwing in shocking reveal shots of dead locke
― amuse-douche (s1ocki), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 14:46 (sixteen years ago)
now that he's buried maybe that'll end
i just don't see what they have to lose at this point by richard or smokey or ilana just spending a minute or so actually explaining WHO people are, WHAT they want and WHY instead of the vague cryptic shit. i'm enjoying the character interplay way more than the mystery/questions aspect and think the show can survive on the former primarily at this late a stage.
― mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 14:48 (sixteen years ago)
i'm wondering if Locke ever met Abbadon now (he was adamant to Helen that miracles don't exist but Abbadon had pointed out that his survival could be considered miraculous itself and you'd think that would've stuck). but if Abbadon hadn't been there to suggest the Walkabout then how did get to that.
― mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 14:50 (sixteen years ago)
richard doesn't know dick apparently
― sir ilx-a-lot (cutty), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 14:51 (sixteen years ago)
he don't know jack
― mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 14:52 (sixteen years ago)
richard has always been kind of hilariously confused or uninformed about stuff considering how long he's been there
― amuse-douche (s1ocki), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 14:55 (sixteen years ago)
his default expression is this sort of weird ambiguous wide-eyed surprise
The little crab scuttling over Locke's face was pretty creepy/effective.

Hoping that Alpert explains the significance of weirdly sequenced Raw Power LP.
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 15:15 (sixteen years ago)
are you expecting that to be the final huge reveal? the reason they must protect the island?
― self-important coozen (bnw), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 15:18 (sixteen years ago)
probably has something to do with the "raw power" unleashed by the explosion
― amuse-douche (s1ocki), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 15:19 (sixteen years ago)
i think claire would then be david bowie and aaron, the shitty mix that nearly killed raw power
― self-important coozen (bnw), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 15:22 (sixteen years ago)
xp Smokey is on a "death trip". He's "searching to destroy" and he "needs somebody" to "penetrate". He's "hard to beat".
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 15:23 (sixteen years ago)
Okay as soon as I figure out how "shake appeal" applies I think I will have figured the show out. No need to watch the last dozen episodes.
Did you miss the bit where Fake Locke explained a load of really important shit?
At the end of S5 Ilana mentioned that Lapidus was a candidate as well - presumably crossed off the list now. The successful candidate is so obviously gonna be Jack, although it would awesome if it was Hurley.
Maybe Alt-Locke ended up having a much better life because Jacob wasn't manipulating him? Except in the original timeline Jacob didn't appear until after Locke had fallen out of the window, so no idea.
The hint about Locke being all cool with his dad was potentially important - wonder if this has any bearing on the alternate Sawyer storyline? Maybe the con/parental murder never happened? They've already played on the manipulated lives thing with Desmond and Faraday, wouldn't be surprised if the alt-timeline was them going hard on that in this series.
― Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 15:23 (sixteen years ago)
"Maybe the con/parental murder never happened?"
Makes no sense. How did he get paralyzed then?
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 15:25 (sixteen years ago)
like what tho? obv he is not to be trusted and it was just his sales pitch to james. smokey kept asking james questions but didn't get any good ones in return, predictably.
― mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 15:26 (sixteen years ago)
It makes even less sense for Locke to invite his dad to his wedding after being pushed out of a window by him. Also in the original timeline, Helen left Locke because he couldn't get over his obsession with his father.
There are any number of reasons why Locke could have been paralysed in this alternate reality.
― Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 15:30 (sixteen years ago)
by far the #1 cause of spinal injuries is being thrown out of a building by your dad
― self-important coozen (bnw), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 15:31 (sixteen years ago)
(There's a big hole in my theory which is that Sawyer's parents were already dead by the time the bomb went off in 1977 - maybe that wiped Jacob out of all history or something?)
― Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 15:34 (sixteen years ago)
felt kind of bad for locke when he was all, "helen, if you dont want me in a wheelchair, dont marry me, because it will take a miracle for me to walk" and instead of being like "aw locke i love you in a wheelchair or out" she was all "i believe in miracles"
― max, Wednesday, 17 February 2010 15:40 (sixteen years ago)
hahah
― amuse-douche (s1ocki), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 15:40 (sixteen years ago)
i was disgusted by her 'peace and love' top. maybe there was a Dharma logo on the label.

well she was wearing a "PEACE AND KARMA" t-shirtxpost ha
― congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 15:42 (sixteen years ago)
But then she tore up Jack's card, the implication being that she believed in miracles AND was cool with Locke using a wheelchair.

― Nhex, Wednesday, 17 February 2010 16:05 (sixteen years ago)
oh god i've confused myself again: in the alternate timeline do we know that the bomb actually went off?
we know that the island is underwater. but is it not true that the bomb can only explode in the universe where the plane actually crashes (because it requires the survivors going back in time to detonate it!) ??
― david cam'ron (tpp), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 16:08 (sixteen years ago)
maybe the question is better posed in this form:
in the alternate universe what event is responsible for the island being underwater?
if it was the detonation of an atomic bomb then who is responsible for detonating it?
― david cam'ron (tpp), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 16:12 (sixteen years ago)
a bunch of time travellers from an alternate universe
― peter in montreal, Wednesday, 17 February 2010 16:13 (sixteen years ago)
let's say it was detonated in the 50s, because Daniel wasn't there to tell them to bury it
― mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 16:13 (sixteen years ago)
maybe the island is underwater because of global warming was not prevented by Jacob
― peter in montreal, Wednesday, 17 February 2010 16:14 (sixteen years ago)
someone please add the raw power sequencing bit to the trivia section on lostpedia
― !aNiMeGaLaXy (Future_Perfect), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 16:18 (sixteen years ago)
Don't think it works that way - from what I can tell, there is no alternate universe before the explosion in 1977. The explosion causes a fork with a new parallel timeline where everything is different outside of the island after that point, but the previous 2004/2007 crash timeline still exists. In the new timeline, the island sunk in 1977 and everybody is happy. Logically, I think that's the only way it could work, since our 815ers are still alive and popped back into 2007 in their original timeline, so everything for them had to have still "happened" for them to exist.
Like Trunk's time-traveling in Dragon Ball Z!

Was just thinking, maybe the fact that Lapidus was supposed to be the pilot on 815 and was supposed to be a "candidate" explains why Smokey killed the actual pilot in the very first episode?
― El Poopo Loco (Pancakes Hackman), Wednesday, 17 February 2010 17:46 (sixteen years ago)
xp Oooh good catch. guess he didn't steal his kidney after all! Maybe he wasn't an evil con man or reformed. Did notice that Sawyer-X didn't look like a guy who'd just mistakenly killed a guy he thought was responsible for killing his parents... guess we'll find out in a few episodes.
Also never put it together this dude bossed around both Hurley AND Locke:http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Randy_Nations
Re: Lapidus, interesting. I doubt they thought it through that far, JJ Abrams probably just wanted to give Greg Grunberg a quick job. They even got him to speak over the intercom in the premiere... but that dude was clearly never supposed to make it to the island anyway.

this show is turning into 30 rock!
ben = tracy jordan ("I'll say something! I'm very sorry I murdered this guy!")lapidus = kenneth the page ("This is the weirdest funeral!")smokey locke = liz lemon ("Inside joke." turns to camera, winks)
also comedy closeup on Locke's temp agency interviewer
― Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 17 February 2010 18:24 (sixteen years ago)
It was interesting as hell that Ben admitted he murdered Locke in front of everyone.
But then Frank trotted out his "I guess we're not in Guam" face and just started digging.
The comparison upthread to "The Stand" was one that I mentioned to my friends while we were watching the episode!

Where was 12-year old Ben when the bomb went off? Was he still with the Others or back in Dharmaville? He must have had time to get off the Island in this new timeline - unless he was never there in the first place.
