Bleach is fucking awesome, btw, if completely incomprehensible if you only watch it once every three weeks.

HI DERE, Monday, 5 March 2007 18:48 (nineteen years ago)

haha, totally agreed. Actually the incomrehensibility of it is part of the charm, for me at least.

I can't get into EHreka 7 though.

nickalicious, Monday, 5 March 2007 18:50 (nineteen years ago)

If they pronounced it YOO-REEK-AH as opposed to OI-WRECKA I would like it about a billion times more.

I will also rep for Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop until the day I die.

HI DERE, Monday, 5 March 2007 19:12 (nineteen years ago)

(On second thought, I would still have issues with the whole "Gecko State" thing.)

HI DERE, Monday, 5 March 2007 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

i've been spreading the frisky dingo gospel for like two years now to mostly blank stares. i think both seasons are out on DVD now, so i'm thinking of reinstating sunday night tv night and making everybody i know watch it.

need to check out delocated.

Frisky Dingo is seriously fucking dope stuff

leigh exodus (country matters), Sunday, 22 March 2009 14:31 (seventeen years ago)

shoulda been hueg

prob my OPO, with home movies not far behind.

now is the time to winterize your manscape (will), Sunday, 22 March 2009 14:36 (seventeen years ago)

It should have been enormous. Like Arrested Development, probably too intelligent and convoluted for mass-market tastes. I reckon it's one of the 5 best TV shows I've seen.

leigh exodus (country matters), Sunday, 22 March 2009 14:38 (seventeen years ago)

tell me more about what the normals can't handle, brainiac.

liveblogging 'before i self-destruct' from the moon (some dude), Sunday, 22 March 2009 16:06 (seventeen years ago)

oh come on, Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! kicks everything else in the ass.

voodoo brown (Stevie D), Sunday, 22 March 2009 16:34 (seventeen years ago)

I don't think Frisky Dingo was nec. too smart for TV - it's actually more accessible than a lot of Adult Swim shows. In a way I felt like it was the logical conclusion to what the adult swim people have been working at for a long time.

It did share Arrested Development's problem in another way - a linear plot and jokes that built on each other episode to episode. So if someone started watching at episode 8 or whatever, they a. won't have any idea what's going on or who the fuck that muscular monster dude is b. aren't gonna find the funniest jokes funny.

Horrible, horrible model for attracting new viewers but at the same time Frisky Dingo without those things would prolly suck.

iatee, Sunday, 22 March 2009 17:38 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, that's probably a better way of putting it - both shows are accumulative and require dedication, which is more than quite a lot of people are willing to give. agreed it was more accessible than other Adult Swim stuff - it's basically their huge juggernaut animated sitcom spectacular, where the experimentalism and iconoclasm of their more nuggety stuff gets fleshed out into a genuine narrative

leigh exodus (country matters), Sunday, 22 March 2009 17:41 (seventeen years ago)

Xavier: Renegade Angel is the best shit on that shit right now. Fuckin, guy has a snake for an arm. Nothing is funnier, nothing is better.

Frisky Dingo was basically what the Sealab team moved onto afterwards, right? The end of Sealab really kind of petered out in quality, and I only saw one or two eps of Frisky Dingo and was pretty confused as to what was going on. Maybe I'll give it a try on DVD at some point.

Nhex, Sunday, 22 March 2009 19:50 (seventeen years ago)

Right, it was the Sealab people and the shows were on the same wavelength. And honestly, I like Sealab...but in retrospect it's like early demo tapes vs. the awesome fleshed out band.

iatee, Sunday, 22 March 2009 20:17 (seventeen years ago)

also: scion tc episode is like my favorite moment in human history

iatee, Sunday, 22 March 2009 20:23 (seventeen years ago)

Haven't seen that much AS stuff, but Venture Bros is seriously hard to beat.

chap, Sunday, 22 March 2009 20:25 (seventeen years ago)

oh man, I loved Sealab, but I don't think I've even seen an episode Frisky Dingo. might have to check that out.

also: kind of hit-or-miss, but when it's firing on all cylinders, Superjail is one of my favorite things in the world.

if you like it then you shoulda put a donk on it (bernard snowy), Sunday, 22 March 2009 21:51 (seventeen years ago)

i thoroughly enjoyed sealab, but frisky dingo is some next level shit. i definitely recommend watching it in order from start to finish. i probably only got into it because the whole first season (or like more than half of it) was up on youtube for a while. also, killer mike!!

now is the time to winterize your manscape (will), Sunday, 22 March 2009 22:38 (seventeen years ago)

Does anyone like Look Around You?
That's when my tv goes off.

Right now the best is Tim and Eric Awesome Show
but the opo all time is Home Movies, duh
(ok I've only seen one episode of Frisky Dingo so I guess I'll have to seek out some more)

"Home Movies" - the idea of an 8-year old Ed Wood is irresistable, and H. Jon Benjamin is some kinda god. (Too bad he's wasted on the occasional "Family Guy" ep.)

Frustraing: Teletoon eliminating Brak and Space Ghost and Harvey Birdman just when I got into 'em, grrr.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Monday, 23 March 2009 04:38 (seventeen years ago)

Jon Benjamin is also fantastic in Lucy, Daughter of the Devil

turtles all the way down (Face of Wolf), Monday, 23 March 2009 05:35 (seventeen years ago)

...dunno what that is :(

First two seasons of Sealab are my OPO.

Nurse Detrius (Eric H.), Tuesday, 31 March 2009 03:38 (seventeen years ago)

"Save if for Queen Doppelpopolous."

Nurse Detrius (Eric H.), Tuesday, 31 March 2009 03:40 (seventeen years ago)

can I only pick none?

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 04:00 (seventeen years ago)

c'mon there's a lotta bullshit on Adult Swim but you're saying you dislike every single show?

the worst breed of fong (some dude), Tuesday, 31 March 2009 04:11 (seventeen years ago)

I can honestly say I actively dislike every single show except maybe Home Movies.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 06:28 (seventeen years ago)

Uncle Gabby and I weep for you.

Zero Transfats Waller (Oilyrags), Tuesday, 31 March 2009 15:37 (seventeen years ago)

then one you would pick is Home Movies, fuckin' duh.

a pissed-off yuppie wandering around L.A. trying it (some dude), Tuesday, 31 March 2009 15:38 (seventeen years ago)

Venture Brothers is pure genius. i think all the newer spazzmo stoney cheap shit is godawful, tho, so i never watch adult swim anymore.

no one is ever ready for the STAKK ATTAKK (jjjusten), Tuesday, 31 March 2009 16:44 (seventeen years ago)

I still watch Family Guy and have started rewatching King of the Hill, plus Venture Brothers and Metalocalypse are both great.

My OPO is Bleach, though.

BADGES DON'T GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO WALTZ OFF WITH A BABY (HI DERE), Tuesday, 31 March 2009 17:08 (seventeen years ago)

one month passes...

Snake 'n' Bacon (based on Michael Kupperman's Tales Designed to Thrizzle) is the best thing on Adult Swim in ages.

Telephone thing, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 20:13 (seventeen years ago)

Not as good as Freedom 'n' Ethan.

Hatfail of Hollow (Nicole), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 20:38 (seventeen years ago)

eight months pass...

Finally got around to watching the first season of Frisky Dingo on DVD. A lot of pretty funny stuff, and way more ambitious than Sealab - I tried watching when it was on the air, but caught random eps and the show's plot/characterizations are already kinda confusing without watching them out or order.

I have to wonder though - between all the obnoxious Chinese stereotypes in this and the godawful Dickesode and "Shake turns black" episodes of ATHF when did adult swim go from hilarious surreal comedy to crutching on sub-Mencia-level racist "humor"? Really kept taking me out of it. Even the third episode of Archer that just aired was one of those bog-standard, obviously-written-by-lame-white-dudes "diversity in the workplace" plots. It's enough for me to not bother going to the second season of FD.

Nhex, Wednesday, 27 January 2010 06:28 (sixteen years ago)

I dunno, I never took frisky dingo's humor to be racist - self-aware references to racial stereotypes isn't off-limits imo

regardless, I can't think of any of that stuff in the 2nd season and highly recommend it

iatee, Wednesday, 27 January 2010 06:35 (sixteen years ago)

and there is a difference between this and 'ironic racism' (one's still a joke about race vs. and one's a joke about racism)

iatee, Wednesday, 27 January 2010 06:44 (sixteen years ago)

minus one 'and'
