The smoke can do physical stuff.

President Keyes, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:05 (sixteen years ago)

Maybe I'm not explaining well-- Smokey was there with Ben, but it was not taking the actual physical form of Alex--not in the way it is with Locke: appearing to people who know fuck all about Locke etc.

President Keyes, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:08 (sixteen years ago)

i saw it that way too but it wasn't really clear

bnw, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:10 (sixteen years ago)

so if the others are so scared of smokey

a) why is ben able to control it by flushing the smoketoilet [someone asked this earlier i think]
b) why does ben actively go to smokey to be judged

david cam'ron (tpp), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:14 (sixteen years ago)

Smokey-locke is kind of a judgmental dude.

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:16 (sixteen years ago)

think some of these theories are needlessly complicated.

this episode had the horrible return of MOOYYYYYY BAYBBBEEEEEE

I think the pill was poison, surely the reason they didn't smack Sayid over the head, or whatever, is that he can't be killed that way due to whatever the sickness is, they had him tied down so I think if it was just a matter of stabbing him they'd have done that. and clearly he's not going to take a pill if this randomer he doesn't know just doles it out to him.

so many stupid plot points tho as mentioned above.

as regards the relationship between smokey and the sickness etc, is it possible smokey can control some people but only inhabit one? so claire or eventually sayid would have their own memories etc but be sort of part of his team...like jack/hurley etc being jacobites....

I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:17 (sixteen years ago)

If they cut off his head, he would have grown a new body and his body would have grown a new head?

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:18 (sixteen years ago)

I meant more they were afraid of the obvious confrontation.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:20 (sixteen years ago)

oh I guess they didn’t call him smokey.. Whooops. Then why the ash test?

i just figured it was a test for smokey-like contaminants/particles.

bwoling and drifting (tehresa), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:22 (sixteen years ago)

what was the electric shock or the fire branding about? obv nobody knows but any theories?

finding dogen or whatever he's called a bit of a cliché

I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:28 (sixteen years ago)

what he should be called is Yoko obvs

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:30 (sixteen years ago)

oh yeah how was that temple goon still fine and dandy within a half hour after getting hit with that ginormous sack of rocks?!

I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:33 (sixteen years ago)

If Locke can walk and Rose cancer is cured, sack of rocks ain't no thang.

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:37 (sixteen years ago)

Did anyone else notice when they shocked him with electricity, his wound reopened? It reversed some of the healing they'd done. I figured the hot poker was to cauterize it as much as anything.

mh, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:38 (sixteen years ago)

yeah true...relative stupidity.

i sort of am a bit pissed off with the show even as i lap it up. i guess it's always been this way. but sometimes you just think why the fuck does EVERY SINGLE PERSON have to be reticent and EVERY SINGLE ANSWER have to be delayed etc etc etc etc...I mean it's the final season. this episode had so much bullshit off island kate stuff and oh look no fake locke despite everyone wanting to know about that storyline. if they can't fill a final season with the actual island mythology then wtf is wrong with them?

I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:40 (sixteen years ago)

"this episode had the horrible return of MOOYYYYYY BAYBBBEEEEEE"

one thing that dawned on me RIGHT away: i had not been missing claire.

scott seward, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:40 (sixteen years ago)

Getting pissed off at Lost is great! Lost has always been more of a nerdy sporting event where there's audience rooting and hollering at bad player decisions, undeserved benchings, etc...

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:44 (sixteen years ago)

yeah scott otm...i instantly realised how fucking annoying she is, esp in WHAT IS GOING ON I AM JUST LITTLE CLAIRE mode

I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:46 (sixteen years ago)

hospital claire was the worst - 'i'm not ready wahhh' - what the hell, you are not exactly flush with $$ and you're in a strange place. why not deliver the baby and get it all taken care of while at least you're in a hospital with a seemingly decent doctor? instead she's gonna go off to some hotel and wait to go into labor again in 2 days?

bwoling and drifting (tehresa), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:48 (sixteen years ago)

I dunno man, Ethan looked like he wanted to eat that baby.

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:50 (sixteen years ago)

maybe she should keep her baby? do you guys think she can find it in her heart to do that?

bnw, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:52 (sixteen years ago)

yeah ethan is so naturally creepy, that can't be just acting, he just exudes creepiness.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:57 (sixteen years ago)

kind of a stupid episode, but still fun. loved the return of mac/aldo.

kate episodes are ALWAYS the worst. aren't they trying to mirror season 1 with this season? season 1 ep 3 was a stupid annoying kate episode, season 1 ep 4 was a mind-blowing heart-breaking locke episode...so maybe...

did you mean: fart blasters? (nickalicious), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:57 (sixteen years ago)

xp Being Tom Cruise's cousin probably helps.

Hoisin Murphy (jaymc), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:59 (sixteen years ago)

scariest ethan role was in that show that started right when lost started about government team that had to fight aliens in our midst. jeez, he was truly frightening on that.

scott seward, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 20:59 (sixteen years ago)

xp guaranteed next episode will be crazy.. they know how to balance these episodes pretty well & usually stick a boring episode (kate) between two exciting ones (season premiere, and whatever comes next week IMO)

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 21:04 (sixteen years ago)

true...it's going to be mostly locke/richard etc so you assume more exciting.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 21:05 (sixteen years ago)

richard, to me, is the most interesting person on the show. hope he gets his own episode. but probably not.

scott seward, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 21:09 (sixteen years ago)

claire shoulda had the baby--would have been an american citizen

max, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 21:10 (sixteen years ago)

Just read on 4815162342 that Lindsey Baskum is an anagram for Used By Malkin - awwwww, good old Lost..

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 21:11 (sixteen years ago)

her father is an american citizen. not that it helps.

x-post

scott seward, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 21:12 (sixteen years ago)

she'd have to know his name for that to do any good, haha

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 21:14 (sixteen years ago)

I think the entire reset/H-Bomb deal was to make sure that Aaron would be born on American soil so he could grow up to be President.

President Keyes, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 21:32 (sixteen years ago)

Aaron is no American. His passport is a fake.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 21:33 (sixteen years ago)

i don't really have a problem w/ the premiere, i think it set some interesting things in motion, but would you really call it an 'exciting' episode?

some dude, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 21:36 (sixteen years ago)

well it got 600+ posts of discussion on here, and we got the OMGWTFPOLARBEARness of the "alternate timeline".. MIB/Flocke reveal.. Losties all managing to make it to 2007.. so yeah.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 21:39 (sixteen years ago)

I find every premiere exciting. Firstly you get two hours, secondly you get two hours AFTER ALMOST A YEAR AWAY! so maybe that enhances the 'exciting' aspect.. but I think the producers know this too.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 21:40 (sixteen years ago)

i guess...i think the premiere would have gotten that many posts regardless of content, MIB/Flocke was pretty much revealed last year, and that the alternate timeline stuff wasn't a huge shock...again, interesting stuff, but not much of a hairs-on-neck-standing-up episode by Lost standards, or even by their season premiere standards. more of a chin-scratching hmmm where are they going with this feeling imo. (xpost)

some dude, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 21:42 (sixteen years ago)

i guess the Smokey battle was an exciting moment though.

some dude, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 21:43 (sixteen years ago)

well to me, exciting*=generates discussion and the alternate timeline stuff did a whole lot of that! I guess the Flocke stuff was essentially revealed at the end of last season but we all know one Lost nothing is ever official until they specifically spell it out (I'm sorry you had to see me like that/Nice to see you out of chains/etc). Do you find there are a lot of episodes that are that exciting? I feel there are only a few a season that make me actually sit forward and bulge my eyes.. the Constant being the one that comes to mind immediately..

*when talking about TV shows at least

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 21:49 (sixteen years ago)

This really felt like one of those ponderous captivity episodes at the start of season three. I enjoyed Miles's zing on Hurley though.

The Sayid and Claire on-island stuff is the only thing from this episode really worth discussing. I think the Others were testing Sayid to try and work out whether it was actually possible to kill him (probable answer = no). But I assume at some point soon Sayid will be able to go hang out with Christian Shepherd in the cabin.

Other question - do we think Christian's been dunked in the temple pool as well, seeing as they never found his body?

Not sure whether Sayid can be possessed/contaminated by Smokey, given Hurley did pretty much exactly what Jacob told him to. Unless it wasn't actually Jacob.

Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 22:08 (sixteen years ago)

Where did Sawyer get a wedding ring? Did it he order it via the submarine?

Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 22:18 (sixteen years ago)

x-post no the thing there is, imo, the pool was turned green when they got to it, probably because jacob was dead? so that's why the cure on sayid didn't work. or even if that's not why, the cure on sayid didn't work as planned.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 22:19 (sixteen years ago)

Am I the only one who doesn't really give a shit about Claire, evil or otherwise? Maybe because I am a macho baby-hating man or something

mh, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 22:40 (sixteen years ago)

You are definitely not the only one.

Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 22:40 (sixteen years ago)

nah I don't care about her either. "Because it happened to .... your sister!" and the final shot of Claire was a weak reveal.

dmr, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 23:42 (sixteen years ago)

She drives to a random body shop and has the vaguely criminal-looking mechanic pop her cuffs. (The guy was played by Jeff Kober, known to some [well, me] as the evil magic-peddling demon Rack in the sixth season of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” What a random, recognizable face for such a bit part. I kept trying to place him in the “Lost” timeline, then realized he’s just a popular character actor.)
That guy! (from Pajiba's recap)

Nhex, Thursday, 11 February 2010 00:03 (sixteen years ago)

jeff kober was on china beach. i was a big china beach fan and he was awesome and scary on that show.

scott seward, Thursday, 11 February 2010 00:15 (sixteen years ago)

but he's been on a zillion t.v. shows. usually playing the scary bad guy.

scott seward, Thursday, 11 February 2010 00:16 (sixteen years ago)
