Ah, fair enough. Did she say that before?

"What would you say if I told you I was innocent?"

more clunky dialogue ugh

mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 16:41 (sixteen years ago)

my brain hurts trying to work out all the timelines/characters now that it's all coming together. next episode looks good. the last time Sawyer saw Locke was when he jumped down the well to stop the time-jumps, right?

and I'm trying to work out Ben's relationship to Dogen and the Temple Others, esp since the 815 kids are there. former Leader? still Leader? its hard to remember Badass Ben now that he's FLocke's lil biatch

Fahrvergnügent (herb albert), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 16:47 (sixteen years ago)

I don't think Ben's Others and Dogen's Others are the same group...?

WmC, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 16:49 (sixteen years ago)

I mean, never were...? I dunno.

WmC, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 16:49 (sixteen years ago)

theres gotta be some relationship, since aldo is in both

max, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 16:54 (sixteen years ago)

they must have had some overlap. but it does seem like no way could all of these people have fitted into Otherville (and i'm guessing Dogen never spent any time there shooting pool with Goodwin or whatever).

mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 16:56 (sixteen years ago)

they are all one group, Ben told Alex, Rousseau and Karl to go to the temple, in the episode Karl & Rousseau bit the big ones..

also from lostpedia:
In "Left Behind" the Others abandoned The Barracks, traveling across the Island on foot to The Temple. In "The Brig" Ben tells Locke that they are "going to a new place. Well an old place actually". This is the first mention of the temple. At the conclusion of Season 3, Ben asked Richard to continue to take the rest of the group to the Temple while he and Alex attempted to intercept the survivors before their arrival at the radio tower. ("Through the Looking Glass")

the absurdity of characters making wholly irrational decisions just because they 'sense a connection,' eg claire befriending the crazy gun wielding convict, makes me a little uneasy. i know its lost, but the alt reality, at least it was portrayed in this ep, seems a little too surreal and far fetched for me to swallow.

phantompenguin, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 17:28 (sixteen years ago)

you mean claire the girl who shacked up with and trusted her newborn with a recovering junkie?

some dude, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 17:29 (sixteen years ago)

Or agreeing to jet off to LA because of what a psychic told her?

El Poopo Loco (Pancakes Hackman), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 17:31 (sixteen years ago)

Re: Ethan

yeah but he's Horace's stepson iirc.

President Keyes, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 17:32 (sixteen years ago)

xpost oh right maybe it's not alt reality that sucks so much as claire. actually, a friend and i agreed while watching that we'd forgotten how dumb claire is.

phantompenguin, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 17:32 (sixteen years ago)

the absurdity of characters making wholly irrational decisions just because they 'sense a connection,' eg claire befriending the crazy gun wielding convict, makes me a little uneasy.

If this intuition were consistent, then Kate & Claire both would have freaked when Ethan showed up.

President Keyes, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 17:34 (sixteen years ago)

you're right, but i cling to the theory because it's the only way i can think of to rationalize claire's actions.

phantompenguin, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 17:37 (sixteen years ago)

one of the clips from next week showed Sawyer meeting Fake Locke, so I'm glad that they're bringing those 2 groups/storylines together sooner than later.

i hope so! i think it will make it more interesting because there will be CONFRONTATION with smokey/locke/etc. also, we haven't mentioned how jin was like 'hold up, my wife who i haven't seen in years and thought i might never see again is probably HERE - where do you think she might be?' and kate was all 'not interested, gotta go make more rash, stupid moves!' what a fucking waste of human!!!!

I didn't think that was too far-fetched - Claire was waiting for a bus right? I could see her trying to get a cab or something but being unable to since she didn't have any money on her and it's not like she knew her way around or anything. the stupid thing was her going with Kate after that, wtf.

what i don't get is why she didn't try to flag down a COP. instead she's like 'oh these people stood me up at the airport i'll just take a bus to their house! nevermind i just got hijacked and all my shit stolen.' i mean... to be picky, she didn't even wait at the airport that long... all the other passengers were still making their way out. how did she know they weren't just late to come get her? did she try, i dunno, calling them? stupid, stupid girls.

bwoling and drifting (tehresa), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 17:39 (sixteen years ago)

jin was like 'hold up, my wife who i haven't seen in years and thought i might never see again is probably HERE - where do you think she might be?' and kate was all 'not interested, gotta go make more rash, stupid moves!' what a fucking waste of human!!!!

yeah this was the fucking pits--made absolutely NO sense

max, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 17:46 (sixteen years ago)

tbf Kate is just doing what the rest of us would re not giving a fuck about Jin and Sun at this point

mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 17:50 (sixteen years ago)

dude i'd so much rather see a jin and sun reunion than more of kate doing idiotic things.

bwoling and drifting (tehresa), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 17:52 (sixteen years ago)

yeah jesus on the "stuff in lost i dont give a fuck about" list, #1 is "kates relationship with sawyer" followed closely by "#2 kates relationship with jack" and then "sun and jin" is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY down the list

max, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 17:54 (sixteen years ago)

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYLT

mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 17:55 (sixteen years ago)

blueski is jesus?

Michael Steele, the first black Superman (HI DERE), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 18:10 (sixteen years ago)

did the torture test of sayid make sense re: smokey? I dungeddit.

bnw, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 18:37 (sixteen years ago)

yeah you'd think blowing the ash on Sayid would have done something if he is indeed smokey.. Can't remember if it was canon or theorizing that I have heard Smokey referred to as being an electro-magnetic something? Maybe because he seemed to be kept out by the giant pylon wall the Others built.. and why didn't Sayid heal up instantly when branded with the poker, etc? It really did seem that he HAD passed the tests..

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 18:45 (sixteen years ago)

they didn't say he is smokey, they said he has the sickness

sir ilx-a-lot (cutty), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 18:48 (sixteen years ago)

don't conflate the two lost mysteries

sir ilx-a-lot (cutty), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 18:48 (sixteen years ago)

I think the confusion is enhanced by the fact that lennon wasn't even 100% sure of what he'd told sayid.

bwoling and drifting (tehresa), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 18:49 (sixteen years ago)

oh I guess they didn’t call him smokey.. Whooops. Then why the ash test?

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 18:51 (sixteen years ago)

that's because lennon doesn't even speak japanese

sir ilx-a-lot (cutty), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 18:51 (sixteen years ago)

Sayid and Claire have been infected by a "darkness" that radically alters their personality, in the same way Rousseau's team had been.

Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 18:52 (sixteen years ago)

Maybe there's more than one smokey. like the one that polluted the healing water could be a different smokey than locke-smokey.

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 18:52 (sixteen years ago)

I just assumed Smokey could break into many little pieces and be as many people/puffs of smoke as he wanted.. I think we have seen the smoke in several pieces..

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 18:56 (sixteen years ago)

It seems weird that locke-smokey would need to possess people when he can just mimic them outright. This disease-smokey could be some kind of smokey baby that hasn't learned to do that yet perhaps?

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 19:06 (sixteen years ago)

I don't think the disease and smokey are the same thing.

Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 19:10 (sixteen years ago)

yeah we saw Claire in league with Christian who claims to represent Jacob so is the sickness actually Jacob's doing and nothing to do with Smokey? would be interesting to find out why Smokey couldn't apparently find his loophole by possessing Christian's body but could with Locke's.

mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 19:11 (sixteen years ago)

Something about the poison pill doesn't add up either. Why not chop his head off if they want him dead?

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 19:14 (sixteen years ago)

Think the "poison" must be poison to Jack but not necessarily to Sayid. Nothing anyone says in this show is unambiguous.

wmlynch, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 19:16 (sixteen years ago)

Smokey seems to only be able to mimic people who are actually dead, right? Yemi, Christian, Alex & Locke.

x-post-- Claiming to represent Jacob & actually representing him are different things. Alanna said "something else" had been living in Jacob's cabin for a long time. I'm pretty sure Smokey/MIB took over Christian's form and manipulated Locke into thinking he was doing Jacob's bidding.

President Keyes, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 19:16 (sixteen years ago)

Christian only claims to represent Jacob, in my opinion. I think Christian is the same spirit that embodies Locke and embodied Alex, Eko's brother, etc.

Claire-sseau last night did not seem anything like Claire when she was chillin' with Christian, tho.

Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 19:17 (sixteen years ago)

And all of whom are dead on the island right?

wmlynch, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 19:17 (sixteen years ago)

Maybe that baseball isn't a baseball!

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 19:18 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, but Claire seems to have been taken to the temple, like the French guys and Ben and Sayid.

But yet the result for her was to basically become Rousseau, who was not to my knowledge infected at all.

Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 19:19 (sixteen years ago)

Or she's giving herself a plausible cover story (I've been a jungle survivalist for the past few years) so she can get the 815ers to bring her back to the Temple (where she'll leave a gate unlocked for Smokey.)

President Keyes, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 19:21 (sixteen years ago)

How did wimpy Claire put all those rocks and things in a giant trap.

Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 19:22 (sixteen years ago)

I think the poison was poison, but if you're infected/affected/changed then you can heal yourself from poisons and injuries you know about. If he willingly took the pill from Jack, then it'd actually work.

mh, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 19:22 (sixteen years ago)

Christian only claims to represent Jacob, in my opinion
I'm pretty sure Smokey/MIB took over Christian's form and manipulated Locke into thinking he was doing Jacob's bidding

yeah probably but considering the bidding was move the island and bring the O6 back, seems more like what Jacob wanted.

mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 19:22 (sixteen years ago)

But the O6 coming back was the only way to get Locke in a coffin or whatevs.

Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 19:24 (sixteen years ago)

I don't think the O6 were really going to do shit until Faraday showed up with the bomb plan. Jacob probably touched him in Ann Arbor & gave him the idea.

President Keyes, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 19:29 (sixteen years ago)

at this point i'll be pleasantly surprised if they explain satisfactorily why smokey had to use locke's body and if so why he couldn't just kill it and use it all on-island. hopefully there's a connection to when locke first encountered smokey and it would actually be cool to see a new extension/reveal of that scene from Walkabout and what actually happened when Locke "looked into the eye of the island and what i saw was beautiful" or whatever.

mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 19:30 (sixteen years ago)

anyone want take bets that smokey/MIB revealed to be an OK dude really, and it's Jacob that's kind of a jerk?
