loving Kate's constant rebellion and cheating of the system is getting smacked down

this one kinda sucked in a predictable 'third episode of the season' way

Ooh, I enjoyed this one. Or maybe I just greatly preferred tales of sympathetic nu-Kate to old Kate. Dr. Ethan Goodspeed! Jack kinda losing it and laughing at his own questions answered with stupid responses ("What's that?" "A baseball.") was great. Loved that last twist too - it totally makes sense for the show, though I didn't see it coming - that Claire would come back as Rousseau Redux. Possibly Smokey-infected too, though she didn't look at all similar to the way she did the last time we saw her at the end of season 4.

watched it live via justin.tv. kinda worth it for the advert where a bear catches iphone-like devices leaping salmon-like from the stream.

Dogen on the typewriter was funny

Really hope there isn't another episode focusing on Kate. This really needed more Richard, Flocke and Ben but it looks like they are going to make up for that in a big way next week. Dogen is quickly becoming one of my favourite characters.

Glad they got the Kate episode out of the way early. Her fake name (Joan Hart) has gotta be some reference to Melissa Joan Hart, aka Sabrina the Teenage Witch, whose aunt plays Kate's mum.

Tania Kahale, who played Veronica, Aaron's nanny, in "Eggtown", appears in this episode as the admitting nurse. It is possible that this is the same character in the alternate timeline.

Also: Lostpedia says the ultrasound was taken on October 22, 2004 at 9:29am. So... 815 took off on a slightly different date?

so (way out on a limb here) i have the sneaking suspicion that the woman who was going to buy claires baby was the woman in the painting that looked like juliet/ben is obsessed with, so (???) maybe ben is the estranged husband?

that house looked like juliet's kid house when her parents got divorced but maybe i am making that up (OR IT IS HER SECRET OTHER SISTER WHO IS NOT DYING OF CANCER)

Isn't that Ben's mum, or do you mean Annie? I can't remember which one Juliet was meant to look like. Good theory if it's Annie, as she was meant to be important but hasn't really been mentioned since Ben's flashback.

The main character Jack was originally going to die in the pilot, and was hoped to be played by Michael Keaton; however, ABC executives were adamant that Jack live.

That episode had almost all of Lost's worst elements.

nice to see the losties using their traditional "too stupid to live" approach in everyday life, too. kate escapes captivity by the skin of her teeth, risking everything, then goes back to claire even though if claire had any sense she'd be talking to the police about the attempted carjacking she just went through. and then claire goes traipsing around with the crazy woman with a gun, because surely it's sensible to give her the benefit of the doubt.

plus the jack plotline contained maybe two minutes of actual material, stretched out to fifteen minutes by all the dramatic line readings.

It was Jack he was refering to, but I can't remember the context that makes me think that.

Anyway, they've already said that the two timelines are prob going to converge at some point so I kinda liked all the parallels w season 1 - Kate and Ethan help Claire give birth as they did on the island, Claire presumably ends up keeping her baby...

Just going by this episode, I imagine everything that happened on the island that can happen off-island will happen ("whatever happens, happens" rule?) even though it's totally crazy because it means at some point, michael will kill libby and ana-lucia all over again, or maybe ben goes into jack's hospital and jack ends up fixing him, and somehow they'll all end up on the island?

apparently they have people read the scripts and rate them? and this one was the lowest rated? so that's good.
