El Vez and Genesis P-Orridge (drinkin' a Summit?)

Such A Hilbily (Dan Peterson), Monday, 8 February 2010 19:13 (sixteen years ago)

was the joke of the wedding band sketch that hardcore is old enough to be played by dads now or

Part of me wondered if this sketch was in any way inspired by having Them Crooked Vultures as musical guest.

I laughed like hell at it, partly because of the level of detail, but I really don't think the joke would be lost on people who knew nothing about hardcore.

oɔsıqɐu (nabisco), Monday, 8 February 2010 20:36 (sixteen years ago)

good heads up by ashton wrt grohl's mic, too. i'd like to see a rehearsal version of this whole thing; maybe the lyrics are more audible.

i second-guessed it later, but totally assumed at first that this was an intentional acknowledgement of faulty mics at live hardcore shows

da croupier, Monday, 8 February 2010 20:37 (sixteen years ago)

don't forget grohl was in Scream as a teen!

da croupier, Monday, 8 February 2010 20:38 (sixteen years ago)

the one scream song on the american hardcore soundtrack SMOKES

yeah i figured the broken mic was a planned thing

XX Decontrol (M@tt He1ges0n), Monday, 8 February 2010 20:40 (sixteen years ago)

And was appearing in a band with John Paul Jones

oɔsıqɐu (nabisco), Monday, 8 February 2010 20:42 (sixteen years ago)

between scream, nirvana, tom petty, probot, killing joke and TCV, Dave Grohl is kind of the kevin bacon of rock

da croupier, Monday, 8 February 2010 20:44 (sixteen years ago)

The Backbeat Band too

da croupier, Monday, 8 February 2010 20:46 (sixteen years ago)

dude grohl IS the kevin bacon of rock, never thought of that before

XX Decontrol (M@tt He1ges0n), Monday, 8 February 2010 20:47 (sixteen years ago)

except he is way better than kevin bacon and doesn't look like an old lesbian

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Monday, 8 February 2010 20:48 (sixteen years ago)

ok maybe not old lesbian, but his usual goatee has a lot to do with that. and it's not like the Foo Fighters are that much better than HBO Original Movies at this point

da croupier, Monday, 8 February 2010 20:52 (sixteen years ago)

yeah grohl is way better than bacon, but in terms of the six degrees thing i bet you could totally do that with him

XX Decontrol (M@tt He1ges0n), Monday, 8 February 2010 20:57 (sixteen years ago)

she's not old! he also doesn't look like her. he's just way less gross than kevin bacon and i will defend dave grohl as long as i need to.

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Monday, 8 February 2010 21:01 (sixteen years ago)

aintcha never heard of the bacon brothers? kevin bacon IS the kevin bacon of rock.

iiiijjjj, Monday, 8 February 2010 21:02 (sixteen years ago)

loved the Crisis of Conformity sketch, but no one but me seems to remember the Melt-Banana-style band sketch they had 10 yrs ago

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 01:09 (sixteen years ago)

Also, Armisen didn't really go all in. Imagine if Farley or Belushi had that role.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 01:09 (sixteen years ago)

i think armisen's look is part of what made it so funny, though. farley or belushi as fat screaming dad yeah ha, but a guy who looks like a totally straight-laced uptight father of the bride type unleashing that was awesome.

bwoling and drifting (tehresa), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 01:12 (sixteen years ago)

i mean, i'm just saying he barely unleashed. Farley and Belushi unleashed more in their Meat Loaf and Joe Cocker bits that Armison as L.A. hardcore punk dad

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 01:13 (sixteen years ago)

there isn't a real "energy guy" on SNL right now.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 01:15 (sixteen years ago)

I thought Moynihan was going to be that "energy guy", but not really.

you gone float up with it (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 01:16 (sixteen years ago)

armisen was good and funny and all, i'm just saying i've done fuckin karaokes that have been more animated than that

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 01:17 (sixteen years ago)

like shoulda saved that one for when jack black hosted

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 01:20 (sixteen years ago)

i get what you're saying but for me it worked bc he wasn't the over the top farce guy.

bwoling and drifting (tehresa), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 01:21 (sixteen years ago)

yeah jack black is really funny

new worlds order comeing soons (jeff), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 01:21 (sixteen years ago)

super sexy psycho fantasy world (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 01:25 (sixteen years ago)

tehresa otm, it worked just the way it was, i dunno what jello biafra or whoever's like onstage but armisen seemed close enough to that

goodness gracious great walls o gina (some dude), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 02:02 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, watch more punk youtubes, dun

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 02:15 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i can't wait to watch something i don't care much about so that it'll make something i already enjoy less enjoyable

goodness gracious great walls o gina (some dude), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 02:17 (sixteen years ago)

bwoling and drifting (tehresa), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 02:17 (sixteen years ago)

loved the Crisis of Conformity sketch, but no one but me seems to remember the Melt-Banana-style band sketch they had 10 yrs ago

i remember this, vaguely. at least i remember something that actually used melt-banana song titles for song titles. freaked me out a little bit.

international slackness (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 02:31 (sixteen years ago)

err, melt-banana song titles for lyrics. i meant.

international slackness (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 02:36 (sixteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

ok the 'we are the world' open was genuine rofls -- esp pinning the whole climax of the song on fonzworth bentley -- brilliant

waka flocka pedia (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 28 February 2010 04:36 (sixteen years ago)

johnny crunch, Sunday, 28 February 2010 04:38 (sixteen years ago)

johnny crunch, Sunday, 28 February 2010 04:50 (sixteen years ago)

someone should chart the quality of snl episodes vis a vis how long it takes for the host to show up in a sketch playing themselves

waka flocka pedia (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 28 February 2010 04:50 (sixteen years ago)
