i can't remember the mechanics of hamster time-travel
this always bugged me:
hamster sits in the mazehamster does not know how to run mazehamster is zapped by daniels machinehamster's consciousness travels to future when hamster has been taught how to run mazehamster successfully runs maze hamster's brain explodes
when is the hamster taught to run the maze?

the others are probably the most inconsistent thing about the showi know they moved into new otherton after they killed all the dharma guysbut my brain just can't fathom how the same group of people that enjoy muffins + book club at juliet's house also live in this wacko temple throwing ash everywhere to hold back the ancient egyptian death god
― david cam'ron (tpp), Sunday, 7 February 2010 18:07 (sixteen years ago)
Maybe because the Temple Others never lived in the barracks in the first place? These guys look like they'd been there a lot longer than the people who were brought over on the sub to sort out security and medicine and fertility shit. Maybe several hundred years longer.

She and a couple of the kids were taken by the Others IIRC?
― Möbius dick (╓abies), Sunday, 7 February 2010 18:41 (sixteen years ago)
She is in cahoots!
If island is underwater as a result of events in 1977, Sawyer is the only one Jacob could have visited with.
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Sunday, 7 February 2010 18:58 (sixteen years ago)
Elaborate?
― Möbius dick (╓abies), Sunday, 7 February 2010 19:06 (sixteen years ago)
In the SSN 5 finale, Sawyer's Jacob visit was the only one that happened prior to 1977. So if (big if, I know) Jacob died on the Island in 1977, then the other visits didn't happen--or happened at different times.
― President Keyes, Sunday, 7 February 2010 19:41 (sixteen years ago)
Ah, right. We still don't know exactly when the island sank in the flash-sideways timeline; if the island went down in '77, when the bomb went off, or if the bomb started a chain of events that later on sank the island. (I'm also a bit confused as to how a hydrogen bomb detonation would cause an island to sink rather than just blow chunks of it around. OTOH hey it's an island that can teleport through space-time....)
― Möbius dick (╓abies), Sunday, 7 February 2010 19:47 (sixteen years ago)
x-post I have a feeling that the Others who lived in the Dharma barracks were the more recently recruited ones--like Cindy and Juliet--and those at the Temple had been around a lot longer. The nu-Others were sent to the Temple in SSN 3 so that's why we see Cindy there now. Not sure if Ben was the leader of the Temple Others too. Richard probably floats between groups. He wasn't around the Barracks during the cage-sex era.
― President Keyes, Sunday, 7 February 2010 19:47 (sixteen years ago)
Jacob specifically told Hurley to get on the plane, so I'm sure he thought through the ramifications.
― Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Sunday, 7 February 2010 19:47 (sixteen years ago)
just remembered that it's been three years since the Oceanic 6 left on the chopper and everyone else went time-travelling, so who knows what the Others (alpert people/barracks people/temple people) have been up to in the meantime?
but my brain just can't fathom how the same group of people that enjoy muffins + book club at juliet's house also live in this wacko temple throwing ash everywhere to hold back the ancient egyptian death god
but they *are* the same people. these were the same guys who dressed like hippies while terrorising airplane crash victims, and speak latin, and had some weird new-agey funeral ritual. also throwing ash around to ward off the smokemonster just seems like the DIY equivalent to turning on a smokey-repelling security fence imo.
― Roz, Sunday, 7 February 2010 20:00 (sixteen years ago)
I really get the feeling that Ben's takeover of the group was what led to all the modernization/adoption of suburban lifestyles and so on, and it's mostly his weird obsession with the pregnancy thing that led to a lot of it. Few of them really seemed to care, and the New Age/hippie stuff seemed more like their default mode.
Also lol @ Sayid being saved by the same thing that saved Ben after Sayid tried to kill him.
― Nhex, Sunday, 7 February 2010 20:32 (sixteen years ago)
Thanks Keyes! That is what I meant- Sawyer's parents died around 73-75 iirc, he made a comment to jack about how he couldve gone back or whatever.
I still think plane ride is flash forward & that jack is going to get that neck wound fighting for the others against smokey before being zapped back to 2004..

Next ep is called "What Kate Does" - a ref to "What Kate Did" in Season 2 (itself a ref to the book "What Katy did").
― Not the real Village People, Sunday, 7 February 2010 22:57 (sixteen years ago)
least appealing episode title ever tbh. i wish they would do more ft. character names in the title tho. only Kate has had this privilege iirc altho Sun and Locke have been referenced in ep titles via crappy puns.

titles to the first dozenish (i think) episodes of this season are floating around the internet. wikipedia has some. i won't list them because some are fairly suggestive, but i will say there's another sun pun involved.
