"Can I say you're my girlfriend on Facebook?"

okay i posted this on noize but wanted to run this by a bigger group to see if this is happening to anyone else....

this is weird:

this chick i was dating a couple years ago just showed up in my feed. back story: we dated a few months, i broke it off, she got pissed, she deleted me from her friends list a while back (i noticed sometime ~1-2 years ago). neither she nor i have ever requested to be FB friends again after this.

and now out of the blue, she's on the top of my feed. i click on her profile to see if she's tried to add me as a friend or if i'd inadvertently clicked hers when looking at our mutual friends' profile (the couple who set us up just had a baby) but no, no pending friendship request.

is this a new feature or something? "People You Used To Be Friends With!"

addendum: she's still FB friends with jaxon even though they met *once*, when we all went to see Herc+Love Affair & Danny Wang. also, still FB friends with my friend in London who we went out to dinner with once.

ok this is happening again, i had two posts in my feed today from dudes in my cycling club (that i'm not FB friends with).

Did somebody you are friends with "like" those posts?

no, i get how that works, this is wholly different... just creepy that FB knows your gmail contacts and is teasing you with peeks at their private profile.

I dont like this new design: I filtered my news page by "status update" and they've now hidden that buried in the "friends" menu and you cant force it to the top anymore.

And using "latest updates" new feed is flaky as shit. If i re-click on it a couple times, posts disappear and reappear, it randomly says "no more posts to display!" and stuff.

So no it isnt much better, because in simplifying it they've removed the ability to do filtering ppl like me knew how to do grrrr.

I think it's got past that age where everyone is supposed to decide it's shit and no-one's twigged so they've made it actually shit.

OK Ive just read through a dozen questions on the FB help centre and *everyone* is saying the new news feed forced upon them isnt working properly, which is what I'm seeing. I'll see a bunch of posts from 5-20 mins ago, hit reload, and theyre gone, as are half the rest of the feed, as if it's "skimming" my feed. DO NOT WANT.

yeah this--i can't get any posts newer than an hour ago. they appeared on one refresh but as soon as i refreshed again they were gone. i like the new design but god damn

Yeah, it doesn't work for shit. Mine has been showing the same five "new" updates all afternoon. Refresh just makes those go away.

I just went into the Status Updates thing in Friends and made *that* my FB setting in Bookmarks.

Desperate for reassurance there was a mistake, she tried over and over to ring her brother.

How nice of mum to, I dunno, let her own daughters know their brother had died.

The mother didn't know either. She knew he was with the other lad, but not about the accident. The police hadn't contacted the family.

got the new fb design yesterday - I like it, much cleaner

I still wish they'd fix the chat function.

I think what people are missing here is not that the design itself is disliked - its neat, tidy and I like it fine - its that the news feed is BROKEN ON PURPOSE.

i think the news feed is broken by accident actually?

some sort of combination of the two is my guess

one thing (and i don't know if this has been discussed because i never really follow this thread) is that news feed will limit the number of yr total friends that show up unless you tell it not to--this is in the options at the bottom of the feed.

Yeah CAD that options bit is what I regard as "broken on purpose", to wit:

Live Feed automatically determines which friends to include based on who Facebook thinks you want to hear from most. You can manually adjust this list below.

OK, fair enough... maybe... except it doesnt work. I've added a large list of friends, and it promptly "forgets" the list. I go back into edit and it isnt there anymore. It retains my "hide" ones fine but not the "show more" list.

Its the "based on who Facebook thinks you want to hear from" that annoys me.

it defaulted to 250 and i have like 330 friends so i just bumped it to 500--no idea if it's working because of the other issues they're having. but the point of live feed i thought was just to give you the newest information--what would facebook be without weird updates from people you don't really care about??

Yeah, I don't think its working right at all. I mean mine is set to a max of 250 friends and I have way less than that in total anyway. But I'm only seeing updates from the same 4 or 5 people. My wife, who shares many of my friends, is seeing different updates from the people that I should normally be seeing.

Haha, old Facebook used to suggest I "reconnect" with people. Now it has someone's picture and curtly tells me to "say hello."

trayce - i think the mum heard about the accident from the girls and then realised in that moment that her son was out with the kid who got killed (and was therefore likely dead as well)

I quite like the new design, but the messed up feed(s) is utterly frustrating.

Every redesign has live feed glitches.. In a day or two it'll be sorted.. In the meantime if it's important.. Call people?

my notifications says that someone sent me a message but i have no message in my inbox and when i click the 'message' link in the notification i get a white screen and 'loading...' from my browser that never goes anywhere.

If you have to have your friends set you up with someone you might as well hand them your bank account, title to your house and car keys because your incapable of making life decisions.
