Well, as I said upthread, my girlfriend's co-worker uses different e-mails for Facebook and Amazon, so he was guessing IP address (although that doesn't seem like it would be very accurate if you share your computer with someone else).

Sorry jaymc, didn't notice you said they were different emails. As you say IP addresses are no good (I share one of my work IPs with a squillion others). Unless they're 100% sure about someone's identity (and even if they are!) this could lead to some very dodgy situations.

You crazy. If you want "is" just type "is".

You actually have an "is" in there automatically that you have the option of deleting. They should maybe add an autocorrect option for "sooooooooo tired" and "looking forward to the weekend" while they're at it.

one of my tiny number of "friends" has 1,300+ friends, and i was looking for a mutual friend of ours in them, and he had two people who had the (fairly uncommon) name i was looking for, and neither of them were her, and there was no obvious connection (eg one was an american high school student) to my guy... so i think he friended them on the basis 'lol u have a name like my friend who isn't on facebook'. weird.
