Dom, make sure your format (at the top) is ring games and then click the private tables tab. Ste, come back - we've stopped playing for now as we need a few more dudes! Caitlin, where are you?

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 23:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Cheers for that chaps! Shall we do another one soon? This time with more than three people (and Ste, briefly!).

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 00:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry for being a no-show last night - I was falling asleep at my desk by 10.45, and thought that poker probably wouldn't be a good idea at that point.

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 09:41 (twenty-one years ago)

haha yes sorry for choking last night. i got a bit confused with what was going on on my screen and it was all going too fast. I wasn't expecting the high bids either. i think i lost $3.50 in less than 30 seconds.

I shall spend a bit of time in the 'pretend' money games area before the next session.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 10:21 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, I'm in for round two whenever it occurs. Does one of the ILE Poker elders wish to set a date?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 10:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Ste, the bidding got scarier once Chris and Ken got into their stride - I think the biggest winning pots were $27 and $29 (the last one me thwacking Ken with an aces high straight, hehe). But by and large, the average (played) hand went for $4-6, which isn't a lot of $$$ when divided by 3 players.

I can do tonight?

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i'll totally play - haha last night I kept not paying attention and got timed out twice when i had the top hand! pants!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i shall be up for possibly another round this evening. mark, think your ready for a tourney? I think so....hustler.

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

if you guys get a chance look at the private tables in the $100-$200nl rooms and look at the money these people have. I saw one person with approx $136000.

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 10:46 (twenty-one years ago)

also, mark called my stone cold bluff of $12 and took me down.

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

it could all be yours in about 10 hands!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha Chris! I definitely learnt from both you and Ken and I'm beginning to get a handle on how to play the game properly, but you can hardly call me a hustler as you turned your $10 into $40 or so, whil I lost 5 bucks.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Chris, I wonder if I need more practice before doing a tournament. When I pretend play in rooms of 10 people, I just lose it completely :(

(who else is up for playing tonight??)

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Typically in 10 player games you need to play really tight. my strategy is to not play anything but face cards(suited or unsuited) or decent pairs ...9's and up until it widdles down to less people. also the play is much different in the real money tournaments rather than the play games. people tend to shy off big bets unless they are holding something in the tourneys where as the play money games people bet with anything and everything and usually take you down.

but as i've mentioned before playing tight in the tourneys can get frustrating when you get beat by small pairs or some one takes you out playing a 7-4.

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, the play games aren't a realistic edumacation as far as I can tell as you know that at any one time there are 2 or 3 players just going "wheeeee!" and betting on everything. Last night was much more interesting - looking forward to doing it again. 5 or 6 players would be ace (Dom, Ste, Caitlin, I'm looking at you).

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

CHICAGO NICK, YOU SEEM THE IDEAL POKER PLAYER - WHY DON'T YOU JOIN US?

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm much better at the tournament games than real money

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll stick to the private ilx tables for now.

I can't do tonight though, tomorrow or the weekend would be ideal if anyone is around at the same time as last night?

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Ste, I may well be - I can see myself getting into this!

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Just so y'all know - I am TOTALLY ON BOARD w/ taking your money (or giving my money away), but a) I can't really do it during the week (w/out shunting some other responsibilities), and b) I'm on a wireless network that's just a bit unreliable, and I phear what will happen if I'm in the middle of a hand and get punted.

oh god i had that so many times :(

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i much prefer real life poker too, you know, booze, low lights, ciggies (i'd hold one and pretend). i have the set at home with decent chips (they make a solid thump noise when you throw them on the felt playing service) and all.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Really! What happens when you get kicked out? (Of a virtual game, that is - I know what happens in the real world, after watching movies & junk.)

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

If you time out on pokerroom.com it makes you check or fold, I think.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Ahh. That wouldn't be so bad unless you're bluffing.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

..which is what I just clicked anyway in shear panic when the timer went red and started shouting at me

xpost

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

for money per hand games i get the impression that you can set it to go "all-in" when you get disconnected too! (i've never explored this option)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yes i was meaning to ask, what's the 'rake' ?

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

a rake is the amount the "casino" takes from the players.

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

basically its how the site makes money.

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, how often do they 'rake' you?
(soz, I could go to the site and find out but ilxor's are so much more friendlier to ask info for)

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i think it's about 5% of the pot

Dudes, as it ain't happening tonight, how about we make a date to meet at the Poker Room website tomorrow at 11pm GMT (6pm Eastern etc.)? Try and get half a dozen people in a private ILX room?

If you haven't yet registered, or fancy a bit of pretend-money practice, it'd be worth showing up early and using one of the play rooms, get the feel of the site. We can liaise, as before, though this thread in real time.

If tomorrow isn't good for y'all, I guess we can try and arrange a better time?

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

i've just played for about 2 hours!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 23:11 (twenty-one years ago)

p.s. are you guys all on AIM? it may be easier to arrange things that way!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I played one day for 12 hours with them same $15.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, i have aim

chrisv1918

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Ken, I notice you haven't said how much you won/lost tonight.

Carey, you up for it tomorrow?

I'm on aim as Markelby.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 17 February 2005 00:14 (twenty-one years ago)

i haven't made much win/loss as yet! been playing for petty cash! i've been hovering around $40-50

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 17 February 2005 00:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I will be playing more next week. This week I am abstaining from poker.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Thursday, 17 February 2005 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Boo. Any more Britishers up for this? 11pm is a suitable late, sexy time for poker-playin'.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 17 February 2005 10:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i often play whilst wearing no clothes.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 17 February 2005 10:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Is this the most cliquey thread ever?

Is there a mod reading this who can add TONIGHT 2300 GMT AT POKERROOM.COM!!! to the thread title or something?

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 17 February 2005 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

BUMP!

Come on, guys, do I have to start begging now?

Caitlin, any luck registering? Do you not have a passport?

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 17 February 2005 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

mark's desperate! i'm in obv.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 17 February 2005 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Tonight? Yeah, go on then. What are we playing, tournament or ring?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 17 February 2005 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyway, if we're gonna be playing poker regularly, shouldn't we all have Late Night Poker-esque nicknames? Like Dom "The Puffer Fish" Passantino or something?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 17 February 2005 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

im in aim me. chrisv1918 for a reminder

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 17 February 2005 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i actually think that the play tournaments are good practice for playing in-the-flesh poker. you learn how to deal with over-aggressive players, you better learn traps, etc. i've only played for money on poker room a few times (on a friend's account) and generally found it dull; people play too tight. last week i won seven straight play-money tourneys! i'm play-rich!

by the way i love playing online players in person. always easy to spot, and very easy to take down. they freeze when there's an actual person staring them down, and they too often call big bets when they are in on draws. sometimes they hit, but most of the time they don't.
