C and I were wearing exactly what we said we'd be, and I stood around by myself from about 8 until she arrived at 8.45, maybe? Don't know what happened. I didn't see any apparent redheads but bars are dark, obv. Too bad, because we might have had a chance as The Gang of Four.

Laurel, Thursday, 28 July 2005 12:39 (twenty years ago)

tis OK. How'd you do on the dictators? Did you finish out of the money?

I won't dispute Ebn-Ozn's virtues, not having thought about them in 20 years, but NO movie questions all night? (except the year of The Empire Strikes Back -- oooh, obscure)

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 28 July 2005 12:40 (twenty years ago)

You had to have been a 10-year-old shut-in at the time to recall Ebn Ozn and Kim Wilde

I got Kim Wilde, but not the other one. I was younger than 10 in the 80s! (Born in '81)

We were about 50/50 on dictators and years. I knew '86 though. I'm from NYC -- I know about some Mets in '86! And I got '80 because of Empire Strikes Back and I wasn't even born then!

Next time, we'll kick ass as The Gang of Four for sure.

Candicissima (candicissima), Thursday, 28 July 2005 13:31 (twenty years ago)

I did get Garbage Pail Kids and Joe Isuzu.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 28 July 2005 13:37 (twenty years ago)

Those were easy! I was obsessed with David Leisure a.k.a. Joe Isuzu a.k.a. Charley on Empty Nest when I was a kid. He was the best!

Candicissima (candicissima), Thursday, 28 July 2005 13:54 (twenty years ago)

My friend invoked Empty Nest, and I only thought of Leisure's name this morning.

The last time I was in Magnetic Field, it was a gay bar called Friends circa '99.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 28 July 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

Let me know if you guys do this again... I couldn't make it this time around but my gf lives around the corner.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 28 July 2005 15:42 (twenty years ago)

sorry i couldn't make it, was up on the north side with britshes ladyfriend. maybe next time? or if you guys wanna venture up that way, i know pete's candy store has a quiz night too.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 28 July 2005 15:47 (twenty years ago)

You only suggest Pete's because it's in Wburg and that's where your pink-cheeked British miss lives. Which location makes it hugely inconvenient for me (and probably Candissima, too).

Full disclosure, Stence, and drag yer ass out next time. ;)

Laurel, Thursday, 28 July 2005 16:29 (twenty years ago)

(Okay, I am partially dissembling because I can catch the 48 bus to Wburg without TOO much trouble, but it's still a lot further away than downtown Bklyn.)

Laurel, Thursday, 28 July 2005 16:31 (twenty years ago)

I'm avoiding anything with "Eighties" attached in future!

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 28 July 2005 16:32 (twenty years ago)

i mentioned her in my post!? yeah i don't even live up there but the b48 is one of many transport options.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 28 July 2005 19:08 (twenty years ago)

I'm sorry I missed, but I was out of town. I went in there this past Wednesday to check it out and they told me they weren't going to do it again for another three weeks, they were taking a break from trivia.

k/l (Ken L), Saturday, 6 August 2005 23:23 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
Trivia is back at MF next Wed, but dunno if I can make it...

And holy crow, the Trembling Blue Stars are playing there 9/29.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 16:27 (twenty years ago)

I'd like to do Mag Fields quiz again, if only cos I can bike there. Wburg kind of a pain for me, tho still possible.

Anyone else interested in hitting Mag Fields on 9/7 for the next quiz?

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

I might be up for it.

k/l (Ken L), Thursday, 1 September 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 14:00 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, I gotta go to BAM to see this Nick Ray film on Jesse James that's otherwise unavailable. :(

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 14:10 (twenty years ago)

i'll try to make it.

renegade bus (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

NOIZE FAG, Wednesday, 7 September 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

renegade bus (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

oh never mind, i was under the impression they'd played in august.

renegade bus (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 14:40 (twenty years ago)

I'm monetary challenged this go around. I have to go home and eat ramen. When's the next one?

Candicissima (candicissima), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

Two weeks from tonight; the quiz is every other.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

I might make a last minute appearance.

k/l (Ken L), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

Do any of you guys ever shop at the Park Slope Barnes & Noble?

No drinks or quizzes tonight for meee.

Ian John50n (orion), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 15:06 (twenty years ago)

i've been to that barnes & noble.

renegade bus (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 15:10 (twenty years ago)

Eich bin ein Brooklyner

Fushigina Blobby: Blobania no Kiki (ex machina), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

I shop at the B&N at Christmas, or if they get new baseball books before anyone else.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

I work there.

Have you read Praying For Gil Hodges, Morb?

Ian John50n (orion), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

No, I'm vaguely aware of it. I run into far too many nostalgic 60something Dodger fans to have much interest in it!

I check out the remainders and Travel sections most often.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 15:53 (twenty years ago)

Last chance to change yr minds, people. Pub quiz is tonight, I believe at 8pm although no one's answering the phone at the bar. I'll be wearing, oh hell, cuffed jeans and god only knows what else. JBR, do you think you and I could recognize each other on sight? Look for me outside, I'll be smoking if at all possible. I've medium-brown long hair with a blonde streak, JBR is dark headed and v curly, right?

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 19:56 (twenty years ago)

dark headed and curly, that's me.

renegade bus (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 20:01 (twenty years ago)

although i have a bad sinus headache developing... if i can knock it out in the next couple of hours i'll see you there.

renegade bus (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 20:37 (twenty years ago)

Oh for god's sake, I'm not going if no one else can be counted on to turn up -- I don't mind having a drink for its own sake but in that case I'll go somewhere with a garden. I'll check the board until just before I leave, so drop me a line here, would you please?

Laurel, Wednesday, 7 September 2005 21:39 (twenty years ago)

i'm in the neighborhood, so i'll most likely be there around 8-ish. is that your real e-mail adress? i can mail you my cell number.

renegade bus (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 21:43 (twenty years ago)

Yep! The email is real, sorry I seem to have missed this comment up till now. You feeling okay, beating the headache?

Laurel, Wednesday, 7 September 2005 22:38 (twenty years ago)

still got the headache, but i should be okay to hang for a little while. i'll be leaving in a minute.

renegade bus (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 22:49 (twenty years ago)

I got there late, after 9:30, Laurel and Jody were already there, had played three rounds. Overall we came in third, but thanks to teh JBR we tied in the bonus round and won a pitcher of beer, of which I drank half. To round out teh team for the next time, need some I Love Comics/RPG/Noize type, sez I.

k/l (Ken L), Thursday, 8 September 2005 04:07 (twenty years ago)

But 'twas great fun, as Ned might have said ;)

k/l (Ken L), Thursday, 8 September 2005 04:14 (twenty years ago)

And it's nice to see that the whole team got home safe and sound and speedy.

k/l (Ken L), Thursday, 8 September 2005 09:17 (twenty years ago)

Where did the questions from, historical-epoch and categorywise?

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 8 September 2005 12:33 (twenty years ago)

Mostly pop culture, AGAIN, with rounds called Rock'n'Roll, That's Entertainment, Junk Food, a Geek Round with questions on recording equipment/comic books/D&D/etc, god I forget the rest. And a bonus round on Brooklyn, which JBR was wholly responsible for our doing half decently on. I am sunk at this quiz unless they change focus to general knowledge.

But good times, good times. We need a bigger group, people, get on the stick and let's organize ourselves into two teams by topical specialty.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 8 September 2005 12:43 (twenty years ago)

Would you have known four of the Green Lantern's alter egos, or six of them?

k/l (Ken L), Thursday, 8 September 2005 13:02 (twenty years ago)

That question is addressed to Dr. Morbius.

k/l (Ken L), Thursday, 8 September 2005 13:02 (twenty years ago)

I don't do comics, or any of those other Geek specialties.
