I thought it was weed too.

Deej, I play in Mama Digd0wn's Brass Band, which is a New Orleans style brass band with sousaphone, two drummers, trumpets & trombones, etc. We're playing the 10th and the 11th at the Green Mill, three sets per night. We usually start out playing traditionals there and move into the street stuff as the night goes on, although I think they were a little concerned about us being too loud last time. Our trumpet player is really really good.

I just said the word "nugget" over and over while I was in the bathroom until it started to sound really weird.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:42 (twenty years ago)

That sounds awesome. I should go.

My jazz band in college played with Bobby Broom, who I know plays at the Green Mill regularly. He's a nice guy! And incredible player obv.

This makes me want to practice again.

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:42 (twenty years ago)

Uhhh should go to the green mill that is, not the bathroom.

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:42 (twenty years ago)

Yeah Deej, you should definitely come.

Nugget.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:44 (twenty years ago)

I just said the word "nugget" over and over while I was in the bathroom until it started to sound really weird.

I did the same kind of thing in the car yesterday with the word "Muqtada."

Steely Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:45 (twenty years ago)

I will try to make it to the Green Mill. I might bring my dorky dad! He loves jazz.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:45 (twenty years ago)

Have you ever done that w the word "bag"? I think thats the funniest sounding common word. "Bag."

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:46 (twenty years ago)

Mug is weird too.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:46 (twenty years ago)

What the hell, I think I have Smell-O-Vision. As soon as the nugget appeared on-screen, I breathed in through my nose, and the air smelled like spicy fried chicken -- or maybe Filet-O-Fish.

I should probably now listen to Yo La Tengo's Electr-O-Pura

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:46 (twenty years ago)

I remember first doing this as a kid with the word "turtle".

I learned a new word yesterday: "matudinal".

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:47 (twenty years ago)

Enlighten us!

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:48 (twenty years ago)

I think thats the funniest sounding common word. "Bag."

You would be wrong. It's obviously "pants."

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:48 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, that stumps OSX's Dictionary. xpost

Steely Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:48 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, I messed it up already, it's "matutinal".

Pronunciation: "ma-chu-'tI-n&l; m&-'tüt-n&l, -'tyüt-, -'tü-t&n-&l, -'tyü-
Function: adjective
Etymology: Late Latin matutinalis, from Latin matutinus -- more at MATINEE
: of, relating to, or occurring in the morning : EARLY
- ma·tu·ti·nal·ly adverb

As in, "my fiancee is not a matutinal person."

I wish I had the Samuel Delany paragraph that I encountered it in handy, 'cause it was a doozy.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:50 (twenty years ago)

John -- I keep forgetting what that band was that sounded like classic rock and was from sweden or some shit. I need more fodder for my podcasting habits.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 18:05 (twenty years ago)

Dungen!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 18:07 (twenty years ago)

Awesome. What a great band name.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 18:10 (twenty years ago)

I mean, for a very certain kind of band.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 18:10 (twenty years ago)

I always think of Dungeon Family when I see that name.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 18:26 (twenty years ago)

They were a snoozefest for me at |ntonation - though it could have been the pot brownies.

Steely Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 18:27 (twenty years ago)

I see that Edith Frost is playing at a tiny club here in Madison on the 22nd, I should probably go to that.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 18:45 (twenty years ago)

BAG

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 18:52 (twenty years ago)

PANTS

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 18:57 (twenty years ago)

BLOUSE

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 19:06 (twenty years ago)

SKIVVIES

The Milkmaid (of human kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 19:07 (twenty years ago)

Blouse is a weird-ass word.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 19:07 (twenty years ago)

THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYIN'.

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 19:09 (twenty years ago)

All words are weird.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 19:10 (twenty years ago)

I'm so totally going looking for The R3nt@ls first album at Reckless this evening.

Steely Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 19:12 (twenty years ago)

"Cat" is not a weird word. Nor is "KRAKATOOM".

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 19:13 (twenty years ago)

"folds of femininity". Not at all weird.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 19:23 (twenty years ago)

I wonder if I still have that cd? I doubt it.

I tried to get together some cds to sell at reckless this weekend. I had a decent sized stack going, but Nick laughed at it and was like, "Come on, Sarah, they wouldn't take ANY of these..." so I sighed and put them all back on the shelf. What was in there? Hmmm... that I remember...THE TRANSFUSEd, THE FAKES, DEEP LUST, ALL GIRL SUMMER FUN BAND, MATES OF STATE... If this sounds good to you, please come shop at my apartment.

Sarah Madkitten McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 19:24 (twenty years ago)

Heh. I just found it on someone's iTunes here at work. It's like it's 1995 (?) all over again. I've listened to "Waiting" probably 4 times now.

Steely Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 19:27 (twenty years ago)

THE TRANSFUSEd, THE FAKES, DEEP LUST, ALL GIRL SUMMER FUN BAND, MATES OF STATE... If this sounds good to you, please come shop at my apartment.

This all sounds great, but that's based only on the band names.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 19:40 (twenty years ago)

'folds of femininity'
anagrams to
'Sniffily if to demon.'

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 19:42 (twenty years ago)

Why wouldn't they take those? I've never sold anything at Reckless. I'm mildly interested in All Girl Summer Fun Band and Mates of State, but only if it's the Mates of States album that has the song where they go "it doesn't matter / it hardly matters / let's unravel the sands of time" etc. etc.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 19:45 (twenty years ago)

I'll trade you a pint of good beer for the All Girl Summer Fun Band.

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 20:17 (twenty years ago)

In the elevator on my way to lunch I was informed it is supposed to be over 50 degrees tomorrow!

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 20:19 (twenty years ago)

"Why, Mr. Dr4ke, have you heard it's supposed to be a balmy 52 degrees to-morrow? Tut tut!"

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 20:24 (twenty years ago)

it was a man who looked like he would talk like that. He didn't, unfortunately.

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 20:25 (twenty years ago)

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 20:27 (twenty years ago)

Ah, 50 degrees, an agreeable temperature for an old Knickerbocker like myself!

Steely Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 20:29 (twenty years ago)

(shamelessly cribbed from the Simpsons)

Steely Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 20:29 (twenty years ago)

I enjoy that television program as well.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 20:30 (twenty years ago)

FUck a Brit.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 20:36 (twenty years ago)

I just gave work notice!

R. Kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 20:38 (twenty years ago)

In the words of Sarah C. J0hns0n:

BOO YAH!!!!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 20:38 (twenty years ago)

It feels so good to quit a job.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 20:38 (twenty years ago)

xpost that's Sarah Fiction to you, pal. Miss Jackson if you're nasty.
