Any Boston-themed episode is awesome in my book. I walk by those guys dressed up in revolutionary garb on the Freedom Trail practically every day after work.
― Michael F Gill, Friday, 22 January 2010 03:06 (sixteen years ago)
She's been silent for four seasons. I can see why all the sudden they gave her lines, but why haven't they done it all along?

They gave her a speaking line last year when they revealed her to be Dutch.

On the one hand, I like all the Boston humor. Being from Boston, it all hits home pretty hard. But every time that damn Julianne Moore opens her mouth, I want to stab pencils in my ears. The frustrating thing is that she's going to show up on many more episodes.
Salma Hayek was soooo much better!

salma was great, but not for the first few episodes she was in. hoping julianne develops in the show in a similar way.
― mizzell, Friday, 22 January 2010 16:38 (sixteen years ago)
It's impossible unless she ditches the accent.
― Moodles, Friday, 22 January 2010 16:56 (sixteen years ago)
i feel like a dick for hating on every other multi-episode mini-plot they have, but fuck nancy
― k3vin k., Friday, 22 January 2010 18:21 (sixteen years ago)
in moore's defense, boston accents are obnoxious and horrible anyway so i'm not gonna blame her -- i have family members who speak exactly like her character.
― elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Friday, 22 January 2010 18:21 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah, after hearing people murder southern accents for laughs on television for decades, a little poke at a Boston accent by Julianne Moore is hilarious to me.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 22 January 2010 18:46 (sixteen years ago)
that's purrfect, like a cat's birthday!
― you forgot what a hardcore blogger is (M@tt He1ges0n), Friday, 22 January 2010 18:56 (sixteen years ago)
Is it a real accent then? I couldn't work it out, but it was very off-putting.
― Not the real Village People, Friday, 22 January 2010 19:43 (sixteen years ago)
it's a combination of that accent and some weird nervous energy she projects as the character. i've never been annoyed by her like that in her other roles.
― sir ilx-a-lot (cutty), Friday, 22 January 2010 20:12 (sixteen years ago)
idk, it's not a south boston accent (which is maybe why people think she's doing it wrong?) but it's pretty accurate for LOL waltham imo.
― elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Friday, 22 January 2010 20:13 (sixteen years ago)
The accent isn't completely inaccurate, just overdone to the point of being obnoxious and distracting. She lays it on too thick to make it sound natural. Instead it sounds like Julianne Moore working real hard to do Waltham accent.
― Moodles, Friday, 22 January 2010 20:33 (sixteen years ago)
i don't have a problem with her accent, i just don't think she's very funny.
― mizzell, Friday, 22 January 2010 20:38 (sixteen years ago)
it is pretty much a running gag now that jack always hooks up with ladies with overplayed accents, isn't it?
― Nhex, Friday, 22 January 2010 20:42 (sixteen years ago)
I'd like to hear her bust out some Maude Lebowski lines with that accent. "Sex can be a natural, zesty enterprise."

well, phoebe had faked am english accent, but CC didn't have much of a Vermont accent that I remember.xp
― mizzell, Friday, 22 January 2010 20:49 (sixteen years ago)
it's like she keeps slipping into that weird Newfoundlandian accent from The Shipping News
― Fahrvergnügent (herb albert), Friday, 22 January 2010 20:55 (sixteen years ago)
i appeciated the way they goofed on her accent ("salt the carport" / "wire a doorbell") but there were a bunch of Boston-specific lols in this ep. the Natalie Jacobson reference totally floored me.
xp isabella rossalini saying "damnit, Jack, you know i love my big beef & cheddar" in her accent was major rofl

Toofer's entire spiel is almost word-for-word a de rigueur script used when a particularly insufferable type of Harvard grad wants you to know he/she went there really, really badly but doesn't want to seem like they're bragging by coming right out and saying it.
(The non-douchey iteration, or less-douchey anyway, is when you don't pre-emptively answer the next logical question and is usually used when you've been burned enough time by people turning into space-case freaks over where you went to school that you'd rather not mention it and want someone to form an opinion about you without having them immediately start calling you things like "EINSTEIN GENIUSPANTS" and "MR SMARTYFACE KNOWSEVERYTHING" before you actually have the chance to prove via normal conversation that you do actually think you know everything.)
― in the name of the purple and gold (HI DERE), Friday, 22 January 2010 22:23 (sixteen years ago)
btw someone did actually call me EINSTEIN GENIUSPANTS and pretty much disrupted every attempt I made to join in a group conversation with "Oooh, let the professor speak!" and "Oh of course he has to say something, he went to HARVARD". This woman was someone I really, really wanted to strangle.
