(was watching on actual TV, hence lack of OMG-ing here...truly two players and two performances fit for a final)

xpost
Final frame needed a Ronnie comeback of sorts, and he did take on that batshit green in the penultimate one (after battling back superbly!) but he was pretty great throughout.

Stopped watching for motd= stupid.
― Body Butter (a hoy hoy), Monday, 18 January 2010 00:09 (sixteen years ago)
he shouldn't have missed the easy yellow that led to the batshit green!!

you'd think a picture that's mostly constant (green) with an occasional dot moving around is an easy stream to compress

holy. fucking. shit.
@ martin gould's performance in the final frame of the session
― sausage s4rgent (acoleuthic), Friday, 23 April 2010 21:02 (sixteen years ago)
Especially the first 30 points of that final break in the last frame, yeah.
I keep expecting John to pass him but its not happening: 10-9
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 24 April 2010 10:06 (sixteen years ago)
dammit I should be readying myself to play cricket but this is too engrossing, Davis digging so very deep
the plant-green-plant from Gould was one of the most sensational things I've seen
― sausage s4rgent (acoleuthic), Saturday, 24 April 2010 10:08 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah and then he followed that up with a couple of long blues, and a red red plant, too.
Lots of charismatic snooker.
Can't believe Davis will win till it happens. This is great.
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 24 April 2010 10:11 (sixteen years ago)
oh wait that was the best bit yeah, the final plant, where I nearly fell out of my chair
― sausage s4rgent (acoleuthic), Saturday, 24 April 2010 10:16 (sixteen years ago)
watched some of gould last night. his potting is so totally next-level brilliance that he doesn't have to bother too much about position, insanely great.

davis higgins is epic
― Steve Sharta (cozen), Saturday, 24 April 2010 11:41 (sixteen years ago)
I'm not going to see the end of this. You just know that the only time in the whole match Higgins takes the lead will be at the end of the 25th frame...
― Michael Jones, Saturday, 24 April 2010 12:01 (sixteen years ago)
amazing
― Steve Sharta (cozen), Saturday, 24 April 2010 12:25 (sixteen years ago)
Bloody, and, indeed, hell.
― William Bloody Swygart, Saturday, 24 April 2010 12:30 (sixteen years ago)
Stunning double. Doubt this will be beaten for drama this year.
And, almost as amazingly, Robertson beats Gould 13-12: shame on the beeb for not cancelling a Dad's army repeat.
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 24 April 2010 17:35 (sixteen years ago)
Robertson beats Gould 13-12

― Stop Gerrying Me! (onimo), Saturday, 19 January 2013 23:46 (thirteen years ago)
For Ronnnie to make a final after being out for nearly a year really is some achievement. You could argue he hasn't had to beat anyone much however he easily beat Judd Trump.
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 4 May 2013 15:06 (thirteen years ago)
yeah .. the final aint going to be all that though is it given at ththe other semifinalists are not exactly firing on all cylinders.
― mark e, Saturday, 4 May 2013 15:31 (thirteen years ago)
For the three frames he had to win last night I don't think he struck much above a 50 break but his positional play was a joy to watch: great brown to red in the first frame to kill that off.
Then a red to pink with his left hand in the last.
There is one weakness in his game in that if he has to pick up the rest he'll likely miss but that is only because he is so good with his left! There is no sportsman or woman anywhere who can say that this ability has actually created a weakness!!
Trump was totally bullied and subdued. In that first frame he should've gone for a cannon into the small pack of reds about two shots earlier but he was so vary of Ronnie and tried to pick as many points as possible that he then ended up going for a harder shot, missed and Ronnie took it anyway.
This could be the most underwhelming final since Hendry-Bond. You give Hawkins absolutely no chance. Only thing is you always suspect Ronnie could already be thinking the trophy is his. Its alright for us to think that, not him.
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 5 May 2013 10:08 (thirteen years ago)
OTM. I don't think Hawkins has a chance. My estimate is it will be a one-sided affair, but that doesn't have to mean it'll be an underwhelming final. Not if O'Sullivan entertains as he did yesterday.
I didn't at all mind Ronnie not scoring high breaks, his positional play indeed was a joy to watch. Not seem him as focused, making the right decisions for a while. If he brings that to the table today I'll be a happy man.
It is a shame though that the competition seems so much worse. And that is compared to a man who hasn't played for a year.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Sunday, 5 May 2013 10:38 (thirteen years ago)
1st Frame: great shot with a rest for a 70-ish break, scrap what I said before.
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 5 May 2013 13:21 (thirteen years ago)
Hawkins misses his rest shot and O'Sullivan turns on the style for a 92 break. Top fkn class!
