I was just xposting about the Ifill one -- probably the worst and most blatant / vicious of the bunch, on top of which IT'S GWEN IFILL!

Imus is a miserable fuck, wanabe cowboy with no idea on how to talk to or about people in the real actual living world.

chaki, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 17:59 (nineteen years ago)

gross

Also, he is not Howard Stern. While Bart Simpson is listening to Howard Stern, Lisa Simpson is listening to Imus. That's the difference.

latebloomer, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 18:04 (nineteen years ago)

oh see i didn't realize that he self-applied the label "honky." That changes everything. He can racially insult other people all he wants, because hey, he paints himself with the same brush.

kenan, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 18:04 (nineteen years ago)

he's ripping off richard pryor

That's not funny, Kenan, I've seen firsthand the hurt and the feeling of dehumanization white people experience when they get called honkys. Joking about that trivializes a long painful history of awful sunburns and having to sit in the fronts of buses.

nabisco, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 18:08 (nineteen years ago)

WHA?

J, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 18:10 (nineteen years ago)

I guess ilx ate my previous post, but who listens to Imus? Retirees? I don't really know who his market is.

Nicole, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 18:11 (nineteen years ago)

Does Imus really get "better guests" than Howard Stern or do lame politicos know that he'll happily sniff their butts?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude ‫茄蕃‪, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 18:12 (nineteen years ago)

As much as Howard discusses/ jokes about race and white/ black relations he would NEVER bust out and call a team of young girls nappy headed hos. fo real.

chaki, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 18:12 (nineteen years ago)

Howard gets good guests if you're into comedy and celebrity coke stories from the 70s.

chaki, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 18:13 (nineteen years ago)

my dad used to listen to Imus before he got fed up with all the namecalling sorta bullshit. My dad had a strange predilection for talk radio in the late 70s-80s, although he seems to have given up on it altogether now.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 18:14 (nineteen years ago)

man what is with the avalanche of white supposedly-left wing celebrities standing up to defend this dude? disgusting

also, lol @ mccain's straight talk express

lolz @ nabisco demographics

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 18:20 (nineteen years ago)

They still do Nixon, Patton, and Perot imitations on there? That show is the epitome of old white men sitting around making tasteless observations while thinking that they're still somehow "with it". Anybody who excuses a rich white cowboy-hat-wearin' Connecticut native (sound familiar?) who complains about the shocks in his limousine for making racially insensitive comments about female college student-athletes is a complete and utter moron.

Pleasant Plains, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 18:40 (nineteen years ago)

Imus is from Riverside, CA.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 18:45 (nineteen years ago)

(and let me tell you how EXCITED I am to share a birthplace with such a loser)

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 18:46 (nineteen years ago)

I have on occasion watched his show on MSNBC while readying myself for work. I always found him to be a pretty agreeable guy. I guess he's an ass. I hadn't heard enough of him to see this side of him.

Dude called Cheney a war criminal, which I thought was pretty cool.

useless post. sorry

Benjamin H, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 19:02 (nineteen years ago)

Can I delete that previous post? Dumb

Benjamin H, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 19:04 (nineteen years ago)

nope sorry it's on the internets forever and ever.

x-post

Pleasant Plains, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 19:05 (nineteen years ago)

Stern did plenty of similar shit in the '80s (esp re faggots), but the cultural consciousness was a bit lower then and I'm sure you won't get tapes of it from HS.

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 19:13 (nineteen years ago)

doug ireland's classic takedown of sharpton (just shows that anybody can achieve respect in politics if they stick around long enough)
http://www.laweekly.com/news/news/a-prayer-for-rev-al/1974/

gershy, Wednesday, 11 April 2007 02:51 (nineteen years ago)

i don't dispute, nabisco, that sharpton's a good small-time organizer and big-time loudspeaker but he's well-assisted in the latter dept (and by extension in the former) by two new york tabloid newspapers that, you recall, are GOP and at least centrist/moderately neo-con in orientation. also, am i the only person who knows right-leaning white people of, say, mort zuckerman's age who totally disagree with sharpton but experience a little thrill from his speech/appearance/manner?

i also wonder why we didn't question the image-making utility (for either blacks or the Dems) of his calling blacks old donkey-riders at DNC '04. and if he's such a leader, why in that regard did the repblican share of the black vote increase?

meanwhile, someone who may or may not have leaked to drudge would like you to know that imus illustrates that obama may not be there for black people like hillary/sharpton. i suppose it doesn't matter whether hillary can keep the black vote and therefore the nomination, though. i mean, she would be a "formidable" candidate. even john mccain and newt gingrich have said so.

gabbneb, Wednesday, 11 April 2007 11:01 (nineteen years ago)

of, say, mort zuckerman's age

or john turturro's age c. 1989, even

from Hotline Blog...

Chicago Tribune's Page: "I like Don Imus personally. I can't read his heart and say if he's a racist. All I know is he says racist things from time to time" ("Hardball," MSNBC, 4/10).

Congressional Quarterly's Crawford: "I've been on the show nearly 70 times in the last three years. He's called me half a sissy, a communist, a pink liberal, even white trash. I didn't take offense" ("Scarborough Country," MSNBC, 4/10).

you know, Craig Crawford, I like you personally, but...

gabbneb, Wednesday, 11 April 2007 11:42 (nineteen years ago)

we should all just be thankful that british people don't know who imus is.

-- ghost rider, Tuesday, 10 April

i was about to say, theres not a single brit on this thread since the imus revival (until now). Yea, no one here will have heard of this guy. And i doubt many british people here will have heard of the phrase 'nappy-headed' either

shall i tell the other brits to come on over?

ok i wont

600, Wednesday, 11 April 2007 11:56 (nineteen years ago)

we know what a nappy head is because of the Fugees tune innit?

but no, imus means nuffin to us.

CharlieNo4, Wednesday, 11 April 2007 12:09 (nineteen years ago)

I had to look up nappyhead to find out what it meant (and all the UK hits are for cool baby gifts).

OH! I was just wondering why there was no Imus thread, and here it is, disguised as a Michael Richards thread.

Jesse, Wednesday, 11 April 2007 15:40 (nineteen years ago)

ha ha Jon Swift:

I know what Imus and Coulter and their friends in the media must be feeling. If you can't refer to black people as "nappy-headed," to women as "hos" and "bitches" or homosexuals as "faggots" anymore, how do you refer to them? Could someone please let us know?

kingfish, Wednesday, 11 April 2007 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

dude is the crypt-keeper. he's pushing 70. should have retired 20 years ago.

The only place i've heard it is "I Wish" by Stevie Wonder

Haha, he's wearing the Connecticut state uniform!

i would like to say that his wife's cleaning products are excellent and i use them every night. in fact, i waxed the floor in the operating room last nite using her floor stripper and wax. they are designed to be safe enough and green enough to be used in pediatric oncology units and they are way less harsh than heavy-duty industrial cleaners.

so, um , hat's off to the idiot's wife!

I saw Imus at a Broadway show once. The camera flatters him.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 11 April 2007 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

Why stop with imus when you can go after him & al sharpton at the same time?

kingfish, Wednesday, 11 April 2007 16:55 (nineteen years ago)

hahaha oh let's all pile on, and quote Top 40 hip hop lyrics now!
