The hazy ideas I'm getting off a Wes Anderson-helmed Spider Man franchise is complete lols.

It would be the most horrible trainwreck of a movie, but would be so funny that it would be worth it.

Derrick Comedy member and star of NBC’s Community Donald Glover has started a campaign on twitter to get an audition for the role of Peter Parker in Marc Webb’s 3D Spider-Man Reboot. The comic actor is encouraging fans/followers to retweet the hash tag #donald4spiderman.

At the exact moment I’m publishing this article on Sunday night, the #donald4spiderman tag is popping up on over 100 new tweets every 60 seconds.Seems like a lot of people on the internets think its an inspired idea. Someone has even created a Donald Glover for Spider-Man Facebook fanpage.

I’ll admit, even if Sony or Webb are listening, I find it doubtful they would consider such a radically fresh new direction for this superhero franchise. But since the suggestion is gaining so much traction on the social web, I thought I’d throw the question out to the /Film readers: Would you like to see Don Glover play the new Peter Parker in the Spider-Man reboot? Leave your thoughts in the comments below

The drag about this is how many people are openly admitting that they believe Spider-Man should never be played by a black actor no way no how no when. As was argued by myself and several other people in the Slashfilm comments, if there's ANY comic book superhero who could stand a race change without missing a beat, it would be Spider-Man. And if you're going to reimagine Spider-Man in such a bold fashion, Donald Glover is an absolutely perfect choice.

I always like Gene Siskel's idea of Denzel Washington playing James Bond (if he could handle the accent of course).

Denzel's way too old now, but Idris Elba would rock a license to kill.

Denzel's Saff Lahndaan accent was pretty good in some movie clip I saw once (he was very young, but I don't know the flick).

Tracy Morgan is more dynamic in 3D and more convincing as a teen nerd/better with off-the-cuff mid-fight chatter. Also he looks better than Glover in glasses and in superhero tights.
Donald Glover would be better as Rory Gilmore, if they were going to remake Gilmore Girls with black people.

uh Donald Glover is way closer to/can convincingly play the age of the character, unlike TM.

also, being closer to the actual age is a deficit in the same way that CG characters that look almost human are the creepiest. Uncanny valley -- you'll go through the whole movie feeling something is off with Gloverman.

the characters arent going to be cg though; it's just in 3d.

let's have michael douglas play spidey, that would be the least creepiest possible option

No doubt Glover has more nerd life experience than Morgan, but that picture conjures prep more than nerd, hence why he'd be perfect for Gilmore Girls.

Also fat spidey is far more dynamic in 3D than trim spidey. Think of the wobbles and jiggles. Fluid dynamics.

Morgan would be a good villain, if they were gonna go with an all-black cast. I already started a #laurenlondon4maryjane hashtag this morning.

Mary Jane would still be white, because Christina Hendricks probably wouldn't tan well.

Someone at Slashfilm just commented that should this Spider-Man campaign fall through (which it almost certainly will), he should definitely be considered for the reboot of Fletch. They've been trying to recast Fletch for a decade now, and no one was -just- the right fit. I think Donald would be perfect, though, PLUS he's totally bros with Chevy Chase already. SLAM DUNK.

<3 Glover but I gotta say if they are going to do this, Jamie Bell would be a pretty good choice.

Out of the suspected final five, Jamie Bell is probably the most agreeable choice. If it's true that they're turning this into a really joyless Twilight-style version of Spider-Man, though, I'm in no rush to see it no matter who gets cast in the role.

The number of Brit choices on that list seem to point to the studio looking for some Pattinson type heartthrob. Which, yuck.

yeah i mean...there's no reason to do this without a strong vision of how to do it way differently from the Maguire/Raimi model, and a lighter or weirder version with Glover would be so much better than just upping the brooding emo factor.

I think this is a pretty inspired idea, and a surprisingly good fit in my head. Either way, though, a couple of episodes into Community, I could tell that Glover was going to become huge. Assuming he wants it and has dece people looking after his interests. But I think he'll have his choice of plum roles in no time.
