through some flour through yesterday's mash, tbh, then into a hot pan.

potato farl = ordinary person's potato scone, yes?

grobravara hollaglob (dowd), Monday, 11 January 2010 19:29 (sixteen years ago)

it appears so. but it's not a scone so i would encourage the use of 'farl' if possible.

potato farls are a decent alternative soakage to have with a fried egg or whatever as opposed to bread...they are fairly nice ime, I buy them in the shops once every few months. tho to be honest these days i tend to go for a greasy spoon out instead of ever cooking bacon/eggs etc at home, it means I have a fry less often.

course then you have the ulster variation, where you get a slice of fried brown soda bread. reason enough for the troubles right there imo, an abomination before god.

Come on, Myleene, put that knife down!

No matter that the whole thing is bullshit and the police didn't say anything to her about a knive let's just have another go at this broken britain crap from my gated community in Florida.

Probably not.

I am far too English to be allowed opinions on these matters but wheaten bread is A+++ and I miss it. Frying it does seem a bit much though. I think the Ulster fries I've had have generally come with fried potato and/or white soda bread on the plate with unfried wheaten bread on the side.

(I think wheaten bread is the same thing as brown soda bread, everyone in NI calls it wheaten bread except the M&S own brand)

don't tell the NN thread that not only do I still eat bread and dairy but I am happy to combine the two by tipping a few hundred calories of buttermilk into the bread dough

ned i know that you lurve the police, and that crime is something invented by malicious right-wingers to discredit the already imperilled utopia gordon brown has given us, but why believe the official claim over klass's?

It's true I think we have the best police service in the world, not perfect by any means, just not as bad as everyone elses. And it's totally plausible that some copper gave the wrong advice to Klasse (and a lot of them think like the DM that it's all gone too far in the criminals favour and it'd be wine and roses if we could just give them a clip round the ear'ole like in the good old days and so could have deliberately told her some nonsense) but that doesn't change the fact that Mylene Klass made an terrible album of classical piano and should not be trusted.

this was a good spot, from the mail's science correspondent:

re Tim, UK's comment reprinted there ("the UK IS STILL WHITE AND STILL ENGLISH SPEAKING!") - is there any or has there ever been any BBC programming that's not in English, Gaelic or Welsh?

he obviously didnt read the mail's helpful and non-judgemental guide to voodoo therapy last month.

Missed this (no doubt it'll come round again in a couple of days) but I think that's part of the problem. The self-defence laws haven't changed recently, in fact they possibly haven't changed ever, but thanks to the Mail there's a perception that they have - which leads to coppers giving silly advice and other folk making well-documented stupid decisions. Don't round up a posse to beat people's brains out, or shoot them in the back, and generally you'll be fine.

BBC Asian Network has some programmes in Urdu, Gujurati and other foreign nonsense.

david eli roth (darraghmac), Tuesday, 19 January 2010 12:18 (sixteen years ago)

(xxxpost) I had an interesting argument with someone about that recently:

someone (preparing to froth at the mouth): "You can't even chase a burglar out of your own house without getting into trouble with the police!"
snoball: "No, you can't chase burglars out of your house, chase them down the street, and then beat them with a cricket bat and a metal pipe."
someone: "oh..."

an executive by day and a wild man by night (snoball), Tuesday, 19 January 2010 12:19 (sixteen years ago)

Well, this is it.

99 times out of 100, there's some little 'detail' that changes the situation..

Mark G, Tuesday, 19 January 2010 12:21 (sixteen years ago)

sure this is it though

david eli roth (darraghmac), Tuesday, 19 January 2010 12:24 (sixteen years ago)

No, you can't chase burglars out of your house, chase them down the street, and then beat them with a cricket bat and a metal pipe.

though i will rep for this as a position if anyone is bored

david eli roth (darraghmac), Tuesday, 19 January 2010 12:25 (sixteen years ago)

i'd be impressed if someone was actually chasing while carrying both bat AND pipe

mdskltr (blueski), Tuesday, 19 January 2010 12:37 (sixteen years ago)

I think they actually chased the bloke in a car, so it's possible.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 19 January 2010 12:40 (sixteen years ago)

Time was you could administer a hiding with a rolled up daily mail, yet these days the paper is not made up of strong enough fibre to be up to the job.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Tuesday, 19 January 2010 12:41 (sixteen years ago)

what a cop out xp

mdskltr (blueski), Tuesday, 19 January 2010 12:41 (sixteen years ago)

back in the days a daily mail would wrap up a fish supper nicely, now the fish literally just collapses through the paper onto the gutter

mdskltr (blueski), Tuesday, 19 January 2010 12:43 (sixteen years ago)

It's the EU that's regulated a thinner page. I say let the best paper win, no matter how thick it is.

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 19 January 2010 12:45 (sixteen years ago)

How about the thickness of it's readers?

an executive by day and a wild man by night (snoball), Tuesday, 19 January 2010 12:45 (sixteen years ago)
