Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 18 March 2005 06:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey at least you know how to play it. I never learned. Ive no idea how to play chess AT ALL. I can play Go, but not chess. It's too logical or something.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 18 March 2005 06:11 (twenty-one years ago)

The castle's called a rook, the horsey's called a knight, the bishop bends sideways and the queen goes in every direction. That's all you need to know.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 18 March 2005 06:13 (twenty-one years ago)

IM ALREADY CONFUSED.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 18 March 2005 06:14 (twenty-one years ago)

You need to read like a zillion books before you get really good at chess, but I read one book and it improved my game from very very bad to just very bad! And gave me a better sense of what is going on (although still, you know, not a terribly good one). I think it's by Bruce Pandolfini; I'll try to track it down if anyone's interested. It was not a thousand boring chess diagrams!

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 18 March 2005 06:31 (twenty-one years ago)

it's all about the game, and how you play it

ken c (ken c), Friday, 18 March 2005 11:40 (twenty-one years ago)

so anyone else fancy a game?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 18 March 2005 12:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I've just challenged you

Greig (treefell), Friday, 18 March 2005 12:11 (twenty-one years ago)

cool!

i think today's going to mark the end of my undefeated record.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 18 March 2005 12:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, how do I send messages? I want to reply to Ambrose and Treefell!

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Friday, 18 March 2005 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

starrychessclub is superfast!

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 18 March 2005 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

There's an option to the right of the board when it's your turn to send your opponent a message.

Greig (treefell), Friday, 18 March 2005 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I have been reading a book.

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 18 March 2005 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

seriously tho, fuck a knight-fork.

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 18 March 2005 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

you mean knife and fork? i dont see the relevance of cutlery to this discussion

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 18 March 2005 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

ken had me on a three-way fork yesterday. queen king and rook i think. daaaaamn, i felt dumb.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Friday, 18 March 2005 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i like the pace of our game Julia, it's about to hot up

Sven Bastard (blueski), Friday, 18 March 2005 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I have thrown away my lead against casuistry.

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

come on, slowzen.

Cathy (Cathy), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:55 (twenty-one years ago)

well played, chris. I kinda knew it ws over when I told you on AIM "the queen is dead" but I thought I cda salvaged it, somehow.

cathy, I am playing the classic two-speed game. I am trying to... frustrate you.

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Cozen, what happened?! How the hell did I beat you, you were crushing me!

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:59 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost. Still, I am not entirely sure what happened.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I am very frustrated.

Cathy (Cathy), Friday, 18 March 2005 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

it was hingeing around my pawn on e5 which ws being attacked by two of yours (queen & rook) and three (with the potential to four) of mine (queen, bishop, and rook) (with another rook to move up.) when I moved it up to check the king, you brought down your back-rank rook, took the pawn, and the queen's fate ws sealed. if I'd have kept e5, I probably would have went on to win. if that's unclear, we cd do a review.

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 18 March 2005 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Casuistry has just stamped all over my plans. I am as good as dead.

Cathy (Cathy), Friday, 18 March 2005 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

cathy, maybe you shd take up yahoo chess, as well? it is LIVE ACTION.

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 18 March 2005 20:10 (twenty-one years ago)

You should never have agreed to exchange queens, Cathy!

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 18 March 2005 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I know, I never thought you'd really do it! Hmm, yahoo chess....

Cathy (Cathy), Friday, 18 March 2005 20:20 (twenty-one years ago)

ow tht exchange of queens ws deadly. chris' queen ws marauding round the board fr a long while there.

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 18 March 2005 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

when Bobby Fischer's plane touches the ground...

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Friday, 18 March 2005 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

But I was several pieces up, and was going to get your rook as well as your queen in the exchange. So hells yeah I'm gonna do it! But you get major points for moving your rook to the second row back then, that totally fux0red up my plans.

Cozen: I looked back and you're right, although even at that piont I think your position had slipped a bit.

Morley! Get in on chessic axxion! Are you back from your trip?

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 18 March 2005 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

ambrose hanging on.

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 18 March 2005 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

yes indeedy, but awful at chess :(

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Friday, 18 March 2005 23:20 (twenty-one years ago)

(Ack, I still haven't sent you crap! Dammit. This weekend!)

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 18 March 2005 23:22 (twenty-one years ago)

am i meant to concede? i guess i should, but i still hold on to the romantic notion that somehow i could win....

ambrose (ambrose), Saturday, 19 March 2005 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

dude I think that notion has passed from the romantic into the sublime.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 19 March 2005 00:44 (twenty-one years ago)

you are about to enter into privileged realms of self-knowledge.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 19 March 2005 00:45 (twenty-one years ago)

apologies, I've been reading too much edmund burke.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 19 March 2005 00:46 (twenty-one years ago)

At a certain point, not conceding is telling your opponant, "There's still a chance that you're a total idiot!"

Anyway, someone else please challenge me!

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 19 March 2005 01:29 (twenty-one years ago)

oi, ambrose is cool.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 19 March 2005 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't mean it like that!

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 19 March 2005 01:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I know I know!

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 19 March 2005 01:36 (twenty-one years ago)

You forget, I love everyone.

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 19 March 2005 01:43 (twenty-one years ago)

why?

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 19 March 2005 01:54 (twenty-one years ago)

they're ok, RJG.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 19 March 2005 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean, I like to hope think so.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 19 March 2005 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

At a certain point, not conceding is telling your opponant, "There's still a chance that you're a total idiot!"

hah. i'm not doing that though, chris, i just want to see how the endgame goes. though i've been thinking of just resigning...i am so so beaten.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Saturday, 19 March 2005 03:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I dream, that they are.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 19 March 2005 03:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I was surprised that you resigned! It's possible that you could have forced a stalemate, at least. I am not so good at endgames. But it was a good game! Rematch if you want.

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 19 March 2005 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)
