liz - if i didnt separate out male/female actors, then i would have listed no men, and that wouldn't have been very sporting. actually, it's more cuz i just copied the list that cj made and started filling in the blanks. i don't really think it's that big of a deal but you can lay into me and rip me a new one if you'd like. :-)

lyra in seattle, Thursday, 25 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I reckon for everyone who's not a totally balanced bisexual then separation of Actor & Actress is valid - favourite actors and actresses are nothing to do with acting and everything to do with sex.

toraneko, Friday, 26 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

admittedly I'm an UNbalanced bisexual, but I only have any sexual thing for 4 to 5 of the 20 acting faves I listed.

halo halo, Friday, 26 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

if i didnt separate out male/female actors, then i would have listed no men, and that wouldn't have been very sporting.
why? doesn't make sense to me. Why sshouldn't all your favourite actors be female?

halo halo, Friday, 26 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

favourite actors and actresses are nothing to do with acting and everything to do with sex.
oh that must be why i don't have any, right.

unknown or illegal user, Friday, 26 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ok, and what doesn't make sense to me is why this is a big deal. are we saying there is no difference between men and women?

Ron, Friday, 26 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think we're disagreeing over whether acting simply counts as a craft or profession. It it does, why would you make a distinction? Would you ask 'favourite male architect' and 'favourite female architect'? or even favourite male vs female artist? Insofar as most (screen) actors are as much attraction fetishes as professionals/artist, then a distinction is made.

Ellie, Friday, 26 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

sure, its a profession but that's a small part of the interest. i think i need liz or someone to explain to me carefully what the problem is, so that i can think about it. also, because of the sex element, 'favorite' really has little to do with whether they are technically good or not. good and hott would be a great combo though. i maybe should not be talking about this

Ron, Friday, 26 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've decided my favorite actor is Bill Murray.

Kris, Friday, 26 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

How often does someone say "of course it will have to be a male architect"? How often do movie producers say "I don't mind if a man or a woman plays this major role"? Of course it's not remotely the same thing.

Martin Skidmore, Friday, 26 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ramosi, Saturday, 27 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

How often do movie producers say "I don't mind if a man or a woman plays this major role"? Of course it's not remotely the same thing

I wish they would think like that more often - so often there are roles that just automatically go to men (ie the main roles) that could just as easily have gone to women...just because women are cast in and take part in roles that have some particular gendered aspect tthem doesn't mean there is fundamentally something different about acting and "actressing".
I don't think architecting or acting are merely professions but I think maybe a singer/singess analogy would fit better...?

don weiner, Thursday, 6 March 2003 19:18 (twenty-three years ago)

I already filled the other version of this in... the one with location instead of height. (5'8", FWIW.)

Oh, to repeat, my location is somewhere near Birmingham, UK. If there's anyone nearby who wants to be my friend/lover/patron, do get in touch! :)

At least someone else likes To Kill a Mockingbird. I thought it was just me. :)

I thought I'd use two smileys today because I don't feel quite as crapped-out as yesterday...

ChristineSH, Thursday, 6 March 2003 19:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Rah! That is good to hear.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 March 2003 19:51 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sorry about the things I said on the list Christine is speaking of. I would say my looks are a 5 and my personality is a 7, speaking honestly. I sure do love myself!

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 6 March 2003 20:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sticking with 2.363 and 4.

Although I do try to love myself a bit more sometimes. The trouble is, it's really hard because I'm SUCH A CUNT!!

And... er... proud of it...?!

ChristineSH, Thursday, 6 March 2003 21:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Don, you have annoyed me by ignoring my criticism of this thread. Ned, hold him down til he tells us where he is!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 6 March 2003 21:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Stop it Christine! You're worse than me! I say we decide where Don is for him. I vote for Ottumwa, Iowa.

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 6 March 2003 21:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I only say "stop it" Christine because I know that my self-deprecation is my most annoying habit, and in your case it seems to be even less true than it is when I do it. You seem perfectly fine, except for all the sad stuff.

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 6 March 2003 21:33 (twenty-three years ago)

And no Christine, you're not necessarily annoying!

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 6 March 2003 21:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned, hold him down til he tells us where he is!

Can't I just bore him with a list of the 500 reasons why I like the Smashing Pumpkins?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 March 2003 21:41 (twenty-three years ago)

I can help! (With the list, not holding down Ned)

Sarah Mclusky (coco), Thursday, 6 March 2003 21:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, if it's about holding me down...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 March 2003 21:45 (twenty-three years ago)

I only say "stop it" Christine because I know that my self-deprecation is my most annoying habit, and in your case it seems to be even less true than it is when I do it.

Did you really just say that? ;-)

oops: OTM!!!

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 6 March 2003 21:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Why would one say no? One in 5 guys is gay?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 6 March 2003 21:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Sure!

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 6 March 2003 21:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Chris: why do you think I back-pedalled in my next post!?

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 6 March 2003 21:59 (twenty-three years ago)

It wasn't the "annoying" part that amused me, it was how you bemoaned your self-depricating habits in a self-depricating manner! "I don't like it when I self-depricate, and you have even less of a reason to do it than pathetic ol' me does!"

Chris P (Chris P), Thursday, 6 March 2003 22:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm pretty slick that way!

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 6 March 2003 22:08 (twenty-three years ago)

It was smooth and subtle and I was impressed.
