iPhone apps S/D

This is maybe not the best place for this question, but: does anyone with an iPod Touch know the simplest way to be able to use the volume buttons as media controls (forward and back) while it's in lock mode, in your pocket? (It's insane that this isn't just built in -- that all relevant buttons are only on the crappy earbuds -- but everything I'm reading suggests it's possible, somehow, somewhere.)

the apple in-ears are nice and have the same inline control (they are expensive though)

Ha: on every forum I turn up, people say things along those lines. Here's the thing: I do not want to use earbuds or inline controls. I want to use the perfectly good cans I already use, and I want to be able to advance to the next song without pulling the thing out of my pocket and looking at the screen. I know this is possible somehow. (And if it's really not that's just demented.)

Nabisco doesn't the iPod have a shake to skip setting?

The shake reshuffles entirely & does not happen when the thing is locked.

I guess it's nice that you can triple click the home button to bring up controls without actually unlocking, but I do wish I could get the button thing happening.

that button thing is a great idea; I'm not sure u can do it tho afaik

I think it can happen, but the sense I'm getting is that you can only set it up after doing all kinds of modding/breaking/etc., with regard to which I trust neither myself nor directions off the web

There's no legit way to get access to the buttons from an app, and you can't detect shakes while the device is locked/sleeping, so there's no way to write something like this 3rd party, jailbreaking aside

These will let you use your own headphone and 1) control the iPod functions, and 2) use your current heaphones and its microphone to answer the phone!

There are come competing models from other manufacturers that do the same thing, so feel free to shop around. It's not quite using the buttons on the actual phone, and it's another dongle to buy, but it's a good compromise.

so my iphone had started just shutting down randomly even when it had full battery--took it in to the apple store and they were kind enough to give me a new one even tho i a) hadnt enrolled myself in the applecare i bought (i guess i assumed it was auto-enroll, which i dont think is such a weird thing to assume, and now i have to go dig up the box and manually enroll myself, which is irritating) and b) they definitely thought that i was just running too many applications (?) or something

anyway i am in the process of setting this bitch up again and for some reason it wont let me sync my mail accounts--the box in itunes to sync selected mail accounts is greyed out. none of the other boxes are. any ideas why this is?

why do you need to sync mail accounts?

that syncs the messages in the account as linked through itunes. you just need to sync the mail account preferences. i know you use gmail so it's either IMAP or gmail activesync whatever...

right, but what you are trying to do in itunes is sync the entirety of your mail accounts (all your messages)

Is there any way to auto reload apps after a restore? I've just lost them all - and it's the second time this has happened. Yes I took a backup. Yes I had 'sync applications' checked.

If they're still in iTunes, you go to the Applications tab and tick all the individual boxes for the apps you want, then sync. It unticks them if you delete them from the phone at any point

They've all gone from itunes ;_; but i'm not sure they were ever there properly, they showed up in the fake iphone screens on the right, but not in the list on the left. do they need to be in the list? how do i get them there?

Are you buying them from the phone? You need to right-click on the phone and choose "transfer purchased items" to put them in your library. This should happen automatically if you've got all-auto syncing on, but sometimes doesn't. If you buy the apps via iTunes they're automatically copied to the library, or should be, so something wrong there.

Oh this really is too fucking much. So i reloaded half my apps, still no joy getting them into itunes. Then I notice some of them aren't working, so I delete those. Still no transfer. I do a hard reset, and bingo, the rest of my apps (except the inbuilt ones) stop working too. Including Spotify, which had just spent two hours playlist syncing, for the third time.

Don't know much about this stuff, Cutty, but I think 1611 is in some way related to a buggered battery ... maybe try charging it up from the mains first, then connecting it to your computer? Absolutely no guarantee this will work, though :/

yeah, my pc wasn't authorised. thanks itunes for not giving me any kind of a clue to the problem! still i, r fool for not realising you could buy apps through itunes in the first place.

just got that one, but the whole sleeping-with-my-iphone-under-pillow is making me nervous
