(xp) That sounds like a game for the Atari 2600.

Or something akin to this:

You're shoes are actually strapped into the pedals.

It didn't feel too intense while I was doing it, but afterwards I could barely walk, in a good way.

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 16:53 (twenty years ago)

Hi, my name is Don Cyclingshoes.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 16:53 (twenty years ago)

Spinning sounds like it would be a good activity for me.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 16:54 (twenty years ago)

That's what she said.

xpost.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 16:54 (twenty years ago)

Dirty boy.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 16:55 (twenty years ago)

I have been to Memphis...some pretty good BBQ.

payne's!!! i'm making homer simpson desireous of delishness noises just thinking about it.

i did some poking around on shows and you're going the one weekend where there's no one i'd like to see playing. your tastes may vary. but go by goner and ask eric or zac if there are any good shows anywhere if you're up for that kind of thing. i sometimes forget that other people check out things other than dingy clubs when they travel.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 16:55 (twenty years ago)

deliciousness. thoughts of payne's clouded my brain.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 16:56 (twenty years ago)

Now you have me thinking of the spicy chopped beef at Ruby's in Austin. oooh. I lived on those.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 16:57 (twenty years ago)

Spinning sounds terrifying, like it would make my heart explode! Yikes. I haven't been to the geem for a long time.

xpost - I long for that sort of freedom, C. I really really really do. I'm putting in hard time now so when Dan is famous and we're rich, we can take all sorts of train trips. ALL SORTS! Hello Empire Builder! Hello musky Amish people! Hello funny little bunk beds! I love the train.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 16:57 (twenty years ago)

they don't get more expensive if you buy them day of.

Not true! I got burned last week.

TO THE TUNE OF $40

gbx (skowly), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 16:58 (twenty years ago)

Jessa's on a plane to Austin right now, and I'm so totally envious. A week of margaritas, Tex-Mex, hot sun, Waterloo Records... I could so use that right now.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 16:59 (twenty years ago)

Breakfast tacos with black beans and spinach. I'm dyin' over here.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 16:59 (twenty years ago)

I love spinning. It's harsh, but it's a great way to burn like 500 calories.

Jeff. (Jeff), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 17:01 (twenty years ago)

my MOM is a spin instructor. i think she plays more sheryl crow and shit than techno though. she's become the most muscular person i know.

the MLK museum made me cry. in a good way, though.

Juulia (julesbdules), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 17:07 (twenty years ago)

I did get burned on a ticket once (it might have been that Chi->NYC ticket!), but I've been watching these tickets and they don't seem to go up. I should have been more specific, so I wouldn't give anyone false hopes.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 17:09 (twenty years ago)

Anyway I'm assured it's a film print so even though I just packed it looks like I'm staying. ONE MORE NIGHT.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 17:10 (twenty years ago)

Just like Phil Collins.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 17:14 (twenty years ago)

That does sound fun.

I would love to visit Austin sometime. I just have to trick Nick into thinking it's not in Texas. Hmm...

Ha, Chris... that reminds me of this time we played at Cal's and there was this really bizarro girl there who claimed to be sueing Amtrak. Supposedly, she got about five different injuries on board. She was one weird chica. OH MY GOD.

Sarah Madkitten McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 17:14 (twenty years ago)

I just have to trick Nick into thinking it's not in Texas.

That won't be too hard. ure him with the promise of many rockin' punk shows.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 17:17 (twenty years ago)

LURE

I cannot type this morning.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 17:17 (twenty years ago)

Lure your urethra

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 17:19 (twenty years ago)

OMG I have the GOUT! I'm too young for this!

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 17:19 (twenty years ago)

(xpost to myself: Haha, that sounds like a Nirvana b-side.)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 17:20 (twenty years ago)

This is the first time in a few years that I haven't gone to Austin in March - it's the best spring break to get through the Chicago winter. There could always be a last-minute road trip next weekend, friends. Chicago ILX and Budget Rent-A-Car present Road Rampage 2006. You know?

Wow, Julia. I could see 'Soak Up The Sun' good for the spinning room.

xpost - Really, Kenan? Gotta lay off the fois gras! And the Ruby's.

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 17:23 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I know. I suspect that the steak that I ate nearly raw the other night was a factor.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 17:24 (twenty years ago)

I've had it before, but never too bad. It's always in the first joint of my right index finger, so at least I can walk. Operating a mouse can get slightly painful, though.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 17:25 (twenty years ago)

(By the way, I can't write for shit today, spelling- and grammar-wise.)

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 17:26 (twenty years ago)

Hmm... I don't have ANYTHING at all on my calendar for the weekend after this Memphis trip, but also I have NO money. :-( I would love a road trip.

Sarah Madkitten McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 17:43 (twenty years ago)

My friend in TN has yet to make it to Memphis, but he has some good things to say about Nashville! Sorry :(

Steely Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 17:47 (twenty years ago)

That's ok! I have quite a list going already. I don't think we'll get bored. I will be visiting some record stores, thrift shops, and maybe taking a tour of the gibson factory.

Plus, my mom has lots of plans for us - and it IS her birthday weekend - including planting flowers in her garden, joining Costco, going to the gym, going to her church (I'm trying to convince her to take us to Al Green's church instead), doing spa things at home (she has a parafin dip set up), visiting Graceland, and doing the usual Beale street thing.

Sarah Madkitten McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 18:03 (twenty years ago)

I've been to Memphis once. To see the Cure.

No wait, that was Nashville. Nevermind.

unclejessjess (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 18:13 (twenty years ago)

I think I would go to Sun Studios.

Steely Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 18:20 (twenty years ago)

I would too. I have a peculiar, ardent love for Carl Perkins.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 18:22 (twenty years ago)

Been in Chicago for three years, and still haven't been to Chess Records. How lame.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 18:23 (twenty years ago)

You think I have?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 18:24 (twenty years ago)

Well, but I would morelikely regard it as a holy place. No offense.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 18:28 (twenty years ago)

None taken.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 18:28 (twenty years ago)

Hi, Jesse, I am Laurel. I live in New York, I just lurk around this here Chicago thread. To be fair I am FROM Michigan, so a fellow midwesterner.

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 18:31 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah...

Hi Jesse, I'm Dan. I'm also from Michigan, but I live in Chicago.

Steely Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 18:49 (twenty years ago)

sorry there wasn't any noize drinks on Sat., Laurel. I drank at the bar w/ddb, went to a dinner (WINE) party and that pretty much sealed the deal

gbx (skowly), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 18:55 (twenty years ago)

You are an awful tease, you know.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 18:59 (twenty years ago)

this guy?

gbx (skowly), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 19:00 (twenty years ago)

I'm Jesse.

unclejessjess (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 19:17 (twenty years ago)

Don't mind me, I'm just delurking to say that Chess Studios/Willie Dixon's Blues Heaven is wonderful. We were there two years ago, the day after they'd had a huge party (kicking ourselves that we'd missed it - it might be something they do every year for Willie's birthday.) They've got a great museum room full of guitars and singles and Koko Taylor's clothes from when she was a skinny little thing. The guy giving the tour was great, but so incredibly hungover. He ended up by locking himself out of his office.

(Hi Jesse, I'm Jaq, I'm from Indiana, but living in the hinterland of eastern WA now.)

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 19:21 (twenty years ago)

you know universal audio studios? where bo diddley, muddy waters, willie dixon, chuck berry, sarah vaughn, dizzy gilespie, count basie, duke ellington, et al recorded? it's now the urban outfitters in streeterville.

fucking sacrilege.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 19:23 (twenty years ago)

time for a new thread?

unclejessjess (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 19:27 (twenty years ago)

Has Muddy Waters ever made me a colorful, stylishly retro t-shirt?

I rest my case.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 19:31 (twenty years ago)

Or a Ram0nes beer cozy?

Steely Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 19:38 (twenty years ago)

jesse, i'm kelsey. we've met before.

Sweet Tater (kelstarry), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 19:53 (twenty years ago)
