Revive! Anyone moved recently, finished decorating, done some decorating? I need ideas for a small-ish kitchen (3 metres by 3 metres).
― Ned Trifle II, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 09:22 (sixteen years ago) link
Can you knock it through into another room? I like the kitchen to be connected with the dining room.
― Ed, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 09:24 (sixteen years ago) link
I haven't done anything different, but to add to Dr. C's cat above, here's my cat:

I love lamp.
― Ned Trifle II, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 09:35 (sixteen years ago) link
We could knock through but, at the moment I have a hatch (see first photo on this thread) which I'm rather fond of. We've been looking at fitted kitchens and (except for prohibitively expensive ones - and in fact a lot of those as well) they're all so kind of show home-y.
― Ned Trifle II, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 09:38 (sixteen years ago) link
Nice cat, Trish! Is he/she sitting on a beer crate?
I just thought our other moggie was visible on one of my pics, but I have realised that it's a basketball. I hate it when that happens.

Wow, really nice. I really want a freestanding workstation thingy in the kitchen but it's too damn small. I love open plan, how I ended up in a 4-bed detached box I'll never know.

V.cool!

My kitchen is the only 'finished' room in my house so far, the living room is almost there but I need a new fireplace/surround/whatever which I should have thought of before decorating.
The one we have is horrid, it's made of some kind of faux marble and has no fire in it. I don't even know if it's a fireplace I want because there's no need for a fire. Hmmm.
My livingroom was looking pretty soulless until I installed my owl sculpture, and Mr had a painting done for me of a glen we have visited a few times so I need to have that hung.
We're getting there!
― *rumpie*, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 09:50 (sixteen years ago) link
Thanks, Dr. C! The cat is sitting on the speaker for the surround sound system. We had to tape a coaster over the power button, because otherwise he turns off the sound when he sits there.
I'd like Casa G00blar, please!
Ned, the one thing we did in our kitchen that takes the harm out of the fitted cupboards was to buy an old dresser and stick it along one wall. We got it from a salvage place. It is here:

I think you can't beat open shelves in at least some bits of your kitchen if you're trying to go for a homier look, and also if you want to show off the stuff you have. It does mean you need to be a bit cleaner, though.

gooblar where do you live? (geographically)
― gr8080, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 10:09 (sixteen years ago) link
London.
(We just moved in; it's a 10 month sublet from an academic who teaches in New York 10 months a year--pretty much all the furniture is his.)
― G00blar, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 10:12 (sixteen years ago) link
Our dresser lower cupboards contain BOOZE! The drawers contain useful things like elastic bands, pens, envelopes and random crap that has no other home.
The only new thing since Feb is a double piano stool has replaced the single one.
― Dr.C, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 10:12 (sixteen years ago) link
We are boringly tidy.
Pfff, the truth is out: you admitted to having a cleaning lady!
Then again, even us having one, doesn't enable us to be very tidy. :-(((

Anyone moved recently, finished decorating, done some decorating?
I have done all these things.
This is the living / dining / whatever room. Not finalized at all, just a temporary state until we finish other rooms. We've actually moved some stuff since these were taken.

This is my tiny kitchen - roughly 11' x 6', maybe? Right after I finished the floor, before we moved in:

Armstrong Excelon industrial floor tile = awesome. Comes in like 50 colors, dirt cheap, easy to install, etc. You do have to polish it though.

Your CDs and wine are quite tidy.
― Ms Misery, Thursday, 6 September 2007 14:06 (sixteen years ago) link
Dr C - In my flat that level of neatness would indicate visiting royalty, or at least mmy mother, whom I always tidy up for in a futile effort to stop her from saying things like 'those taps could do with a clean.'
Sam - really like your backsplash tiles.
― Anna, Thursday, 6 September 2007 14:06 (sixteen years ago) link

xxpost, thank you. I highly recommend glass tiles to anyone who wants to instantly glam up their place. I would love to put up something like this:

Dr. C, you're wine bottles are angled wrong I believe. I think they should be flatter with the wine against the cork. I might be wrong about this though!

x-post I think at least two of them have screw tops! Anyway that's where crappo wine, that has been won in raffles or given away free with takeaways, lives. Decent wine is elsewhere..

Haha - well Ive got a lot of things to do but fuck 'em...
1. The trainers have walked across the floor - BY THEMSELVES!!! 2. The cardigan (?) has moved from one cupboard down one. (But why?!) 3. er...that's it.
― Ned Trifle II, Thursday, 6 September 2007 16:41 (sixteen years ago) link
Ms Misery - do you mean glass tiles or bricks? I love glass bricks. Back in the late '70s (ahem) I used to babysit for this super rich couple and there house was revolting in every kind of way, horrible marble and gold plated taps everywhere...BUT, the front door - or really the surround of the front door, was opaque glass bricks. The shapes that people made walking around behind them used to fascinate me (although i am easily fascinated).
― Ned Trifle II, Thursday, 6 September 2007 16:46 (sixteen years ago) link
Hahaha - my other half walked past and moved her cardigan - probably to get at the fridge. The shoes are magic ones and yes, they moved all by themselves.
― Dr.C, Thursday, 6 September 2007 16:54 (sixteen years ago) link
xpost, ahh, I would like both! Although I was specifically talking tiles above. They come in so many colors and just an accent of them can change a room.
― Ms Misery, Thursday, 6 September 2007 18:44 (sixteen years ago) link
Glass bricks are horrible. They remind me of a student residence that I was in where it was never properly dark thanks to the entire wall of glass bricks letting light in to the common area from the corridor which in turn would seep under the doors and skylights to disturb me. I am still angry about this, as you can tell!
