Started watching recently. Among my first thought, in comparing it to the Larry Sanders show, was that Alec Baldwin more of less = Artie. And then, bam, Rip Torn plays the figure Jack admires. Coincidence or vaguely plausible crazy hypothesis.
(I don't know if Jack saying Hey Now! at one point is another reference. Probably not).
